It's very hard to find any channels discussing Ottoman military logistics so the tidbits about difficulties in uniform production were greatly appreciated. Great Work!
Very nice video, my grandfather was in the Ottoman army (he graduated from the Harbiye in 1903) and during his time the uniform was navy blue as you said. It would be interesting to see if you could try to get a description of a true Janissary uniform from the 16th century, I highly doubt the ones that are depicted in the new TV series etc
@@willfakaroni5808since in these soap-opera style of TV series they portray the costume styles with some modern retro flashes and cuts which I can’t image existed in the 16th century, it’s not one or two points that I can mention but rather the whole flavour that seems modern/stylish. I have read different source materials about the Janissaries which agree that they went into the line of battle not wearing the Bork headdress but scale armour and “sipahi” helmets; but other sources and contemporary European and Ottoman paintings of battles show them at war wearing their full regalia-so I wonder which is correct. If we stick to physical sources then we have the war museum at Vienna which has some displays of captured items from the siege of 1683, these items match the contemporary paintings of them but not all the written source material, the primary source being the book by Jason Goodwin entitled “The Janissaries” wherein he states that they went into battle wearing Sipahi armour. So far he is the only western writer that I know of that wrote exclusively about the Janissary Corps since the 1980s till date
@@willfakaroni5808 I think the ceremonial regalia of the Ottomans began when they established their main capital in Edirne (Adrianople) during the 1370s, there they took ideas from the Byzantines, Persians and previous Turkic dynasties who themselves borrowed from Byzantines and Persians. What is fascinating about the Janissaries is that they supposedly maintained the same regimental apparel and dress for 400 years; nowadays we talk about units in the British army or the Vatican Swiss guard as being ancient but fail to mention the Janissary corps which existed less than 200 years ago essentially unchanged from the 1300s-approximately 500 years or half a millennium

Great video mate, there is a company in Melbourne Australia called Warwick firearms & militaria who make Turkish uniforms , they are the guys who supplied the uniforms for Gallipoli mini series. I will be starting my own channel at some point as i have lots of ww1 stuff that is both original and reproduction, anyway keep up the great work. Oh also another site for ww1 Australian gear that i often use is Lawrence ordinance based in Sydney Australian , for original gear i go too ebay, tommy's pack fillers for labels they are based in the UK , also i am working on ww1 Australian paybooks making a proper reproduction of them.
Hello my good sir, as a fellow turk is there any chance you will make video about turkish uniforms in WW2 and the Korean War? also very nice content i cant stop watching, keep up the work!

A pity that regarding ottoman army, only reenactment can be made. I've heard there is only one complete original WW1 uniform left, kept in Australia. I don't know if it's true, but if it is, it's very sad
The Japanese 1908 tunic has a mandarin color and all of the reproductions have big red Insignia patches on the collar the tunics also have two breast pockets and they also have shoulder Insignia that is sewn on I would not recommend this uniform if you want to use it for ottoman what I would recommend is the later 1940 uniform that has the folded down collar and do not come with insignia
