You can't buy a cloud game by definition ... unless they are legally obligated to provide the game/service for at least your life time.
Then ... most cart games will survive longer than several human lives, I reckon ... so, you can leave behind a cart based game library to your grandchildren (maybe even cds/dvds/blurays in right conditions), but the 'bought' cloud version will likely not even be accessible anymore in 5 years.

So what happens when square or any other comapnies turn off the server that streams the game? You play 40$ plus and maybe 5 years (min) they shut them down. You pay for a game you cant play on the future.
See that's my exact thinking as well. Like I never do cloud versions of games. Most of the time I do physical. Nintendo is the only system where I have bought some digital stuff only because of estore sales.
Umh you have the same problem with EVERY game that use servers to play. You can buy the game but not play it because servers are no longer there. (Or dead)
@@MellaniePlays Multiplater game often have fan server though. Battlefield 2 which came out in 2005 still have multiplayer private server to this day.
@@raikenninja4843 not every game has that or is as populair to get fanservers. A friend of mine bought game and the servers where totally dead. But it was nowhere to be found on the steam shop page that the game was no longer supported. So he could not even play it.
And what you think about the wii online shop? Its totally dead now and you can no longer re-downloade or update digital games.
Mostly I expect video games to break before the servers are down, we are no longer using passively cooled 3 MHz processors with a few caps that could go bad and it is an easy hardware store fix with a bad use of a soldering iron...
Still cloud gaming on a Switch, the thing can't handle even first party games with dedicated servers on wifi without lagging all the way to kingdom come, forget about not being able to play the game in 5 years, you can't play the damned thing now

It’s pretty bad when kingdom hearts 1 on PS2 looks better than kingdom hearts 3 on switch. I hate digital gaming.
I hate what gaming has become and sometimes wish it would crash again even if it would kill gaming for good just so the industry would be put out of its misery.
The argument about how digital games should cost a bit less than the physical copies is how I always feel about online storefronts with both physical and digital games. The weird and annoying thing about Switch physical games especially is that you always get more of those cashback points, with the gold coins where the physical copies have expiring points and also the point values are always lower even for games at launch.
Square fucked up these “ports” worse than they fucked up naming half these games
damn.. I missed out on kingdom hearts as a kid and was so excited to play this, I would have bought the physical copy in a heart beat but thats a hard pass on the cloud version.
Been waiting for kingdom hearts on the switch for years. I played chain of memories on GBA and have always wanted to play the other installments, but it makes me sad to not have a native option because my internet is good but not amazing. I’ll try the demos out to see for myself.
If you want native options, don't buy this regardless of whether the cloud versions run well for you or not
If you want good portable Kingdom hearts go for Dream Drop distance on the 3ds, birth by sleep on the psp, and any of the ds ones

RGT, you have an excellent point. I'm enjoying these games on my PS4, which provides the best quality. If I want to play Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo Switch, I'll play my copy of Melody of Memory. Some people may not like this game on Switch, but in my opinion it's a great game!! Far better than trying to play the Cloud streaming version, in its current state.
What happens when they shut down the servers in a couple years, you're basically paying for nothing.
Umh same goes for buying digital games from the online store look at the wii now! You cant redownloade or update digital game there anymore. If you bought a online game on the store its gone now forever.

No porting and charging double the price of what it costs on other consoles. And an objectively worse experience to boot. Its really hard for me being a die hard KH fan. I own physicals of nearly every game and not being able to get any kind of physical copy on my favorite console of all time really freaking irks me. I'm probably still gonna get it cause I'm a sucker for the idea of playing handheld but its very painful. Been upset since I learned about it

I'm sticking with Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory if I want my Kingdom Hearts fix on Switch.
I was super excited when i heard Kingdom Hearts was coming to switch! i wanted to replay them and be able to play it on the go so i waited for the Switch version but as soon as i found out that they were cloud versions then my heart broke. that immediately made me say no to it. with the pricing being as high as they are i still would of bought them piece by piece but cloud versions take away the biggest advantage of the switch ITS PORTABILITY! and just stable gameplay without having to worry about internet connection. once i saw cloud version started looking for the All-In-One package for PS4 and now i have that and will not even consider the Switch version even though that's where i really wanted. Really disappointed me with it being cloud.

I could understand why games like 0.2 and KH3 got cloud versions but for all the others I don’t see an issue for them if they could run on PS2, PSP, DS and 3DS. Actually seems like the perfect time to actually remake 365/2 days and re:coded to try and hook fans that only saw the cutscene library.

lol, first 2 games (1.5 and 2.5 .. so with extras) were on ps3 blurays and so definitely not THAT big. quick search does 20 and 22GB for those 2 resp. (KH3 is 35GB? but obviously for PS4/XBO textures with their memory etc)

Cloud gaming is a joke, until the internet gets a lot better, it’s just pointless to even consider getting one of these games. Sadly I live in an area where the internet is horrible and it’s not good enough to stream Netflix, even RUclips buffers horribly. So this is a huge pass for me. Such a shame because I wanted the games on Switch.

Even back then, the announcement of the -not Cloud Strife- versions of these Kingdom Hearts games were just kinda deflating. And seeing these prices and how these games are working... I am disappointed. ಠ_ಠ
I legit did think it was a Cloud Strife version of KH coming out when I first saw the announcement and was confused lol. But agreed, I'm disappointed as well. Hoping the low sales will prompt them to think about a physical/digital version.

The Switch has always been a great fit for KH as a platform and I've honestly been waiting a long time to get to play it, but the fact it's a cloud version KILLED that for me though. The business and pricing models are also despicable.
I wanted this soooo bad, but cloud version I can't do. I travel for a living and hotel internet is not the way.

I’m so frustrated that I agree with you. I’d never heard of kingdom hearts until yesterday. I’ve just bought a switch and was super excited to have found a possible new favourite game but I just can’t look past everything you’ve said. I totally agree but as a result of that I won’t be able to play it because I have no other devices! They better fix this because if even a loyal fan base disagrees with it something must be wrong!

They should have ported 1.5 and 2.5 separately at full price and have both digital and physical versions. If it’s a storage issue then, remove the cutscene movies 358/2days and re:coaded from both collections. There’s a lot of GB storage space free. You don’t truly need them at all unless story but, I’d rather have games over cutscenes. The following games tell what happened in them anyway. Not 100% but, still. KH3D can be HD and sold separately and 0.2/3 can be cloud based
Just buy The Story So Far collection for PS4. It comes with everything and KH3 minus 3’s DLC content. It’s sold normally at $40 physical but, I got mine on sale for $15

Way ahead’a ya there! I have them all downloaded on Xbox One. Unfortunately however they are no longer available on that platform as of 8 months ago. Y’all shoulda jumped to the chance when you had it. I have finished KH: Final Mix, KH Re: Chain of Memories, and KHII: Final Mix.
The developers of this series either really don't want people to support their games or don't know how to make money. They released the games on Switch, yes but only as broken cloud versions, and yes also on PC but as an Epic exclusive, the price's are expensive af too.

I stand by RGT to a certain degree on this..the prices are to much, specially for the older games. KH3 should've been the only one "cloud-based". However as a Networking Engineer I have to tell you that we have to keep in mind that even though they are cutting off manufacturing costs..."the cloud" still costs money...regardless if it is managed by themselves (local servers) or if they host it @ amazon, microsoft, google, etc...hence the price tag....I stand by his side encouraging to avoid purchasing the games as that's the only way in which our voices would be heard....through our wallets. We can't have this become a common staple for videogames.
This just makes the decision to make the older games in the series cloud based even more bizarre, if it's still such a high cost to maintain the servers why didn't they just use that money to properly port the games?
Square Enix ported Dragon Quest 8 to flipping Android, I cannot believe that they don't have the resources or talent to port the games to the switch. Games that are pretty much guaranteed to do well on a nintendo platform.

@@tubguinace The way I see it based on what I have experienced as a web engineer and a developer... For a company this size it's waaay cheaper to work on a cloud based game than to pay for a 3rd party company to port the game (like panic button, those guys are awesome btw).. Why? Simple... Development costs are worth a lot, you have to take into account that to port a game means a lot more than normal people realize..there's time (8 hours a day per developer. Now multiply that times how long the project takes to completion) and sometimes there's something terrible called crunch hours... When there's nasty bugs that they can't fix, there's framerate to consider based on the engine that was used to develop the game originally, adapt it to the switch frame cap, optimize whatever it is that's lagging behind, if the game has internet components like online multiplayer... You have to rewrite some netcode for the peer to peer connections to work, button/control mappings (different button layouts, including support for left handed people for example), game sounds or music out of sync with the visuals...how to write a save file... Whether to do it on local storage or an external SD card... I could go on and on with so many things that may look too insignificant to non-developers... That we normally take for granted on current games... But that's hard work for a probably under paid developer... Most of the times the harder parts come from translating stuff from an old engine in which said old game was developed and put it on the switch's newest engine... Do you think everything will be compatible out of the box? Those are the pesky bugs that they spend days, probably weeks to fix... Why? Cuz they don't know how the older engine works, they were not the original developers... They have to spend time in order to understand how the code was written for that engine first...so they can fix the issue on the modern engine. So taking all these little things into account... Now think... How long do you think a port will take? That's money the big company will have to spend... God knows for how long? So in the end... It's easier for them to pay a monthly fee to a cloud hosting provider and have them run their game on a server stack..somewhere.. Cheaper... It's just my two cents... Don't take my word for it... Do your own research... A developers life it's not easy... That's why companies like Panic Button and Saver Interactive deserves our out most respect.

They'v could've gone 'OK KH3 was designed for ps4, so would be too much of a graphical sacrifice to simply port, so we decided to make it a cloud version".

Thankful to have this series on PS4. The flow, frame rate, quality, controls, audio, all are at the best performance it can possibly be. Plus accessibility, no need to be online, but there were patches over time. KH3 however did not have R3mind included until later.
Bummer about the limitations with cloud gaming. Really wish that SE worked out something, to have a physical version, as an option. Streaming is a tricky topic.

I feel for the Nintendo Fans I was extremely hyped when I heard that the Entire Kingdom Hearts Franchise was coming to the Xbox finally but got Extremely PISSED OFF when I learned that all of them except for Kingdom Hearts 3 would be Digital only on Xbox to where I got Kingdom Hearts 3 on Xbox and the rest on PS4 because of that both Switch and Xbox Owners Deserve Physical Copies of this Franchise I don't care at this point if it ends up being A Limited Run thing.

I was actually planning on buying these, but I bought the all in one collection instead, and I'm so glad I did. Played the demos last night and oh my God was it not good. I could barely tell what I was looking at while playing the kh3 demo

I literally just bought the entire KH collection on ps4 for $20 brand new.
Never bought a cloud game on Switch and never will. Also will standby saying Sora shouldn't have come to Smash till the end of time. Lastly to clarify Chain of Memories (PS2 version to be precise) is in 1.5, 2.5 has Birth By Sleep (Enhanced version later released in Japan I think), & the only real game in 2.8 is Dream Drop Distance which came out on the 3DS originally.
I tried hitman on my sisters switch and I just couldn't play it that way.
Crash needed to be in Smash more, but Sora is allowed precisely because Kingdom Hearts already had a presence on *VASTLY INFERIOR NINTENDO HANDHELD HARDWARE* as full real games, not cloud services that rely on the combination of two things that don't mix, the Internet and the company that brought you the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pak!

I think we should just not support and buy the game. If we don’t, maybe they’ll realize we don’t want the cloud version. I hope that doesn’t mean they’ll take the games off eventually. I just hope they’ll put it on the switch the way we WANT the games on the switch!
Sadly lowering the price has never been a result of a digital age of gaming. Usually the digital games are more expensive and stay more expensive for much longer because they don’t have to discount it to get it off a store shelf.

As gamers, we cannot tolerate this kind of half-assed behavior from developers. Cloud gaming should not exist, and definitely not at these prices. If you're paying for a game that is 100% dependent on and internet connection, then you're basically wasting your money on nothing. And if for some reason their servers go down, you lose access to that game, meaning you never owned it to begin with. Physical native copies will always be the safest and best way to game.

Oh no. No no. I'm not paying purchase price for a game that doesn't install and run natively. They can decide at any time to turn off the server. Nope. I expect many games for a cheap price like gamepass cloud when I think of cloud gaming. If I pay full price to own it's going to install natively. I don't feel like I actually own it on the cloud.
It needs to happen. I NEED KH on switch. It would rival BotW and secure another revenue stream.

OMG! Thank you so much. I just learn about the switch version during the Nintendo Direct just now and i was going to buy it all. Then I got the price in Nintendo eShop. I am from Canada so the price here WITH THE 20% DISCOUNT is 95.99$ + Taxes(15%) and I was going to buy it. Good thing I gave it a second look by looking your video. What RGT fail to mention is that every platform execpt PS has that price for the KH series. That includes PC with the Epic game store. Sony is the only one with the Phyical All in ONE collection for that price & I think its cause Sony worked out some kind of exclusive deal with Square where that version of that game can only be released on PS.

The only cost the vendor has is the cost to run the backend. Hosting the file and the resources to stream the game to end-devices. I am still not convinced to purchase any cloud based game. I don’t own anything. That is what really annoys me.
Im still baffled as to why the KH games before KH3 couldnt have just been ported to the Switch and keep KH3 as the only cloud one. Sigh such an unfortunate turn of events
This is honestly a shame. I only have a Nintendo Switch, and Kingdom Hearts looks like a cool series, but It seems I can't play it without having one bar wifi.
I was never going to support this move since Kingdom hearts series is so heavily tied to a serect bond club with Sony, Disney & SquareEnix. There is definitely a pack among those 3 companies decided not to make it physical for the system.
Also the high price didn't shock me as last year Disney price hiked their parking tickets so they are being greedy as always. I believe this decision to do cloud based was only to keep the PS versions the best way to buy.
Switch has a huge fan base right now so no need for them to not support those 64GB or 32Gb carts.
If that were the case, they could have just made them exclusively digital yet still run natively, as a major KH fanboy I wouldn't have minded that.
That makes no sense whatsoever... Disney has absolutely no advantages In this game being released in cloud, SE has a lot less cost and time, Sony keeps being the "best way to play", but Disney only gets anything from the royalties, less sales will not help them at all, and cloud gaming on switch is a Death sentence to a game, it just looks more like "Sora is released, release the games now, no matter what it will take, we need to get the hype train before it is too late"
As far as Disney's concerned, they would likely sell physical copies on the Parks for inflated prices with a special "King Mickey" box, and it would sell like ice in the desert
For the price you pay for these on switch, you can pay $39.99 plus tax at stores like walmart for the all in one package of kingdom hearts for ps4 if you have one. It has practically every game. Im not sure if xbox has this.

I made the mistake of playing the demo during a snow storm. My internet was crap. It kicked me off and said there are no playable demos left.
