    Agreed, then the suburban was the people mover. I remember when my parents bought one new in '77, they were hard to find back then, was a common step from a station wagon.

    Dad had a '74. 400ci small block, auto and two wheel drive. Slapped on a "heavy half" kit. Hauled everything from kids to feed. Doubled as jungle gym and play fort. We kept it until the body fell off the frame, and still got trade in value just for the scrap.

    Dad had a 78 K5 which was the last year with the full removable top with a lift, large tires, lockers, and KC roof lights. We had a summer house in the Catskills on a old logging road up a mountain pass. Not paved, rutted and tons of snow and mud in weather. Remember being a young kid in the early 80's and my dad just bouncing up the pass, Steely Dan and Genesis always in the tape deck :) We never got stuck or felt in trouble. A fantastic capable truck. Best part was we lived in NYC, so after a trip my dad would need to street park this giant rig still full of mud in a sea of cars. He did not was it right away, as it was a mark of the journey he said.

    March 14th 2024, and I just bought a 74 Suburban K20 4x4!
    However, there was one thing about the truck I have never seen on a 67 through 95 Chevy truck before.
    I have an all working, factory dealer installed winch right under the front bumper.
    The winch is a Hinkley sidewinder and is in perfect condition!

    In case anyone is interested there was a flaw in the frame of these chevy trucks on the drivers side where the steering box mounted.
    The frame would crack and the steering would wobble on many models if you did any repeated heavy offroading.
    It would happen over time if you jumped the truck through the air where the front wheels would land hard (as depicted in the beginning of the video with the K5 Blazer bouncing off the ground) !!!!

    I drive a c 20... Still going... toughest truck I have ever owned...Ran better than my new Toyota Tacoma... Tows...twice than it can... It gets 10 no matter what... Never buy a Toyota... My Tacoma got 7 miles to the gallon towing.... My old Chevy got 10... And it pulled better up the hills .. never struggled....They knew how to build trucks...

    It's too bad those Chevy square bodies rusted so badly. They were good looking trucks. My uncle bought a 1974 C20 brand new. Within about 8 years it had considerable rust.

      Another issue was the drain from the cowl ran down into the side cab an under the floor runners and went nowhere. I put out the metal plug once and it was so caked with dirt.
      I had always wondered why under the doors on all them you’d see it rusted

    just out of curiosity, where do you get all these old tapes??

    • @theemulsionalchemist5688
      @theemulsionalchemist5688  3 года назад +7

      these are not video tape but actual movie film. the dealerships would get a set of these each year when the new models were released. they are in super8 format with optical sound. they came inside a continuous loop cartridge made by technicolor and only could be played on special machines. in order to post them I have to remove them from the cartridges and put them on film reels, then have them scanned too digital. the films can't be played on a normal super8 projector due to most only have magnetic sound. then the scans require a lot of work on color correction since they have lost about 90% and are basically red and white. there are always plenty of these up for sale on eBay but most people don't want to spend the time or money to restore them. search Technicolor dealership cartridge
