dude I was there with 3 friends, fucking awesome we cheered them into an encore. I had only heard 1 song before the show so catching that much energy live was really incredible!
Anthony, when I discovered their performance on KEXP I was enthralled by it. I would watch that performance every week and even everyday sometimes for a hot minute. It's so awesome that you got to see them, I really want to see them.
You should review Hydrabadd's Temple of Tru Luv. I discovered them through your post about their Diamond Spectrum EP on your website and I feel like their sound has evolved so much from that point. I'm interested to hear your take on the group's latest effort. Also, Shabazz Palaces, 4EVAAAAA.
saw them in detroit about a year ago. The crowd at the magic stick, i swear to god, barely even moved while shabazz palaces played. the bass was CRAZY loud all night and i think everyone fell into a psychedelic hypnosis or something. i did. i came out of that concert a changed person, swear to god. i loved it
One of the best live shows ever!!! I was in a pretty small room a bit bigger than a 2 car garage (maybe the size of 2 put together) so when Shabazz Palaces came on the bass was INSANE!!! The whole floor was shaking and it felt like your chest was about to cave in!! So good haha.
this is one i really want to see! and thee satisfaction too. i haven't been to a show since Death Grips in San Diego in Nov. (unless being dragged to a ozomatli counts). i wonder if mc ride has regained his eyesight after you pointed that spotlight on em! shabazz needs to come to the coast already.
When they played here, they actually closed out the set with THEEsatisfaction on Swerve, and then like segued into some song I'd never heard before. Totally insane.
I saw them a year ago and it was really similar to what you described, and I loved it. It almost felt like a dj set but with live instruments the way they blended their songs together.
I caught them live back in Minnesota last year. It was exactly the same feel. Many of the tracks I thought were not that great on their EP's got pumped out with so much energy in their live set that I was blown away. They took the plinky interlude in Endeavors for the Never and made a whole new beat and song over the top of it. I don't think you can catch a better live hip hop act right now.
Gotta agree here, they're definitely the best hip-hop act I've seen. Seems to fresh and interesting, but there was only about 50 people there. These guys are pretty underrated.
I caught them at The Echoplex and they were amazing. As soon as they stepped on stage they set their set up in this perfect moody ambient setting and then the beat drop and it was a ride from there. I caught them last year, so no new stuff that I caught but they basically played all their songs.
I caught them in Houston last night, the album is phenomenal, but it doesn't do them justice. They're something else live, everyone was groovin' in the crowd. It was great, and Ishmael Butler was a nice guy as well.
saw shabazz palaces in rome last year. really intimate gig. great musicians, and really cool that they played stuff from of light and the self titled ep.
I've seen shabazz palaces when they came to LA. Amazing show alltogether, the opening acts that came before them were a bunch of beat producers from brainfeeders like samiyam, gaslamp killer, ras g ect. and dudes from other record labels as well. As far as shabazz palaces, I love their unpredictability when they are performing because like Anthony said, they like to improvise a lot of their live work so to see the magic in person is amazing.
Actually saw them a few weeks ago at the Union South in Madison, WI. It's a shitty venue for a concert. Sad that the people there didn't even the the decency to turn of the TVs playing the NBA finals next to the stage. Still Shabazz Palaces were awesome. Loved how their dances coordinated and how they kept rolling on with their set with minimal pauses. Thanks for share ur experience Anthony. Bests! -Mon
I had a great time when I saw them. Loved the improv and their performance. I wish they would have been playing in a better sounding venue but what can you do, eh?
I saw them in bloomington in January, they were fantastic. they opened for some indy rock band, but they got the white boys movin way more then the headliner
along with seeing jay reatard live these dudes were right up there as far as amazing concert experiences go in my life...radiohead in a small venue right when ok computer came out was pretty good too though especially when their set began with fitter happier which at the time i never heard before and i was like whaaat iz this.... oh and teenage fan club opened(!)
Fuck. These guys are dope, but I really wished DP came out with a new album when they reunited; those guys never really got the credit they deserved back in the 90s.
WOAH you pronounced Digable Planets correctly in this
Jae Park [really late reply] there are people who pronounce it incorrectly? How else is it pronounced?
+davidtomamusic (REALLY late reply) in the Black Up review, anthony says ishmael was part of the group "dijable" planets
@@emano3203 (EXTREMELY late reply) I guess melon wasn't wearing his glasses and mistook the "g" for a "j"
@@imoffended2444 4 years ago they didnt call him melon yet hahahahah
how was it? he was playing twelve reasons to die shit?
o.......k......
:-(((((((((((((
agreed.
nice!
yeah, the ep tracks were really heavy in person. it was boss as hell.
fuck yes i was. i was swaying and dancing as hard as one could with a camera strapped to his chest.
same here!
hahaha, same here. i really gotta be in the mood for it.
not sure yt.
i don't think cal could ambient drone without falling asleep.
indeed.
woo!
a little.
i will when i see more things.
You should never regret letting him do stuff. It was the best intro ever.
Black Up is amazing
dude I was there with 3 friends, fucking awesome we cheered them into an encore. I had only heard 1 song before the show so catching that much energy live was really incredible!
don't. i'm no. hero. i put my records on my turntable one side at a time like the rest of you.
*ahum* I belive that is less off an mpc and more of a roland sp-555 *pushes up glasses*
did you happen to read the few dozen comments of people caring before you wrote this? lol.
doink doink.
Anthony, when I discovered their performance on KEXP I was enthralled by it. I would watch that performance every week and even everyday sometimes for a hot minute.
It's so awesome that you got to see them, I really want to see them.
what a novel thought.
Awesome man!!! I'm going to be touring with these guys in Asia really soon. Can't wait!
Seen them a few times in Seattle and in San Diego, also with TheeSatisfaction. Great live show, I'm always happy when the crowd gets into it too.
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS PLAYIN!

moar of this kind of video plz
i need to vicariously live through the concerts ill never get to go to
Saw them in Melbourne, Australia last year. Great show and I really appreciated how they seemed to synchronize dance moves into their performance.

I saw SP in Berlin this year. You were right on. This is what Hip Hop was always supposed to be.
I really wanted to see these guys live last year but cause my bad back I missed them. Of all the gigs that year I was gutted I missed 'em.
me too! they were amazing! saw them in June in Calgary, pretty stunning how they construct beats with the two of them and then rip them apart
love these guys so much thank you ant fant
I had a great time when I saw them. Loved the improv and their performance. I wish they would have been playing in a better sounding venue but what can you do, eh?
i caught them at Pitchfork a few years back. I enjoyed it and I still listen to Black Up fairly frequently
I saw them last summer, they had a short set but it was absolutely incredible.
exactly my thoughts after the concert in Stockholm, still the best live set I've seen
I did too, and they were AMAZING!
They are coming through Texas, I'm going to see them now. Sounds awesome.
I saw them in bloomington in January, they were fantastic. they opened for some indy rock band, but they got the white boys movin way more then the headliner
Dude, review that new Rob Zombie record. It's such a fun album to listen to
Rites of Spring, hell yeah!
Saw them in Toronto. Fantastic set. Drum machine vs. bongo drum offs? Come on.
Loved the show, but holy crap they went on at midnight in Houston! Barely stayed awake
It's settled. I'm going out as Cal for Halloween this year.
Hey, I'm going to see them tomorrow!
You should make more of these "I Saw" videos.
saw them live in Munich. Daaaaayumn, best evening of my life.
I saw them a couple months ago myself. They were awesome
You gotta see Flying Lotus when he comes around Anthony.
along with seeing jay reatard live these dudes were right up there as far as amazing concert experiences go in my life...radiohead in a small venue right when ok computer came out was pretty good too though especially when their set began with fitter happier which at the time i never heard before and i was like whaaat iz this.... oh and teenage fan club opened(!)
I just saw them last night in Austin! Great stuff.
Saw them open for My Morning Jacket. They were fucking amazing.
i saw them too in iowa. theesatisfaction was amazing
Fantano, when are you gonna do a post-Record Store Day vinyl update?
Black Up is a complete mindfuck, it seems to grow on me then other times frustrate me
the hands that theive streetlight manifesto
Saw em in Pensacola with helio sequence it was super dope got them to sign my lp.
I would really like to here an ambient-drone piece made by Cal. Something really deep
Rites of Spring!!!
i'd love to see these guys live. they'll never come to australia though. :(
rites of spring I love you x
fuck we need another shabazz palaces album
Palaceer uses an sp-555, not an mpc. you can't do the shit he's doing on an mpc.
saw them at music fest northwest '11, they were really disappointing live but i think that had to do with them opening for macklemore
They're awesome.
Please ask them about a new record!!! Maybe they can post an update or something
saw them live in Montreal. It was pretty cool :)
RITES OF SPRING END ON END VINYL. dammit fantano. i envy you.
hopefully they do another album soon
would like to hear what you think of the mf doom clams track
fucking love the shabby pals
Wow! 60fps! Why not all the time!?
I did too (last summer in Basel, Switzerland) and it made my gonads as well as my guts feel very brain-ish.
Fuck.
These guys are dope, but I really wished DP came out with a new album when they reunited; those guys never really got the credit they deserved back in the 90s.
when shabazz palaces release a new album i'm going to blow my pants
*fist pump*
Yeah, well, I saw Ghostface Killah last night. Take that, Anthony! Still, jealous of you for Shabazz.
Black Up is my favorite album to smoke weed to
Nice!!!
Cal Chuchesta Feat.Grouper
I live in Cincinnati and closest show they'll have to me is in Philly. Sad face.
Seeing them on Thursday in Dallas >:^))))
Anthony now has more frames per second.
good for you mate
