    I run wild lettuce through a Juicer. Extracts liquid while discarding solid plant matter. For a more potent natural pain killer, Indian Pipe (Monotropa uniflora) aka Ghost Pipe, grows in abundance in eastern/southern woodlands.

    Thank you Joe. I have used the British extract method outlined in Fenner's, 1888 for the fresh whole above ground parts of Lactuca virosa and have found it very effective. Evaporate to concentrate. This is the water method. Alcohol may be added afterward as a preservative but is not necessary for extraction. Or continue to concentrate till paste like, divide and roll round in confection sugar. Best made from fall planted - spring harvested plants at budding time, especially with deep scarlet veins and leaf edges.

    Hello Joe!! I love watching your videos…you bring use so much knowledge!!
    I was hoping that you could answer a question for me. I was recently harvesting wild lettuce in & around the woods, here in North Carolina. I came upon a large area of what I was sure was wild lettuce so I cut a good amount to make a tincture. However I noticed when I began to process it that the latex that was bleeding from it was a beige to light brown in color. These plants had bloomed mostly but still had some blooms left. My question is…is this wild lettuce or is it something else?

    To properly extract the lactuarium, the whole plant should be boiled until the water turns red, then remove the rest of the plant material and simmer the extract until it has a black paste similar to hash.

    I made tincture with leaves from flowering plant (I might have added some stem, I can't remember), and found it to be quite effective for migraine pain, however it tends to give me nausea (migraine itself brings nausea, but I felt, that lactuca tincture increased it and other herbs did not), so I rarely use it or use it in combo with other pain herbs such as wood betony, black cohosh, devil's claw, etc.

    • @steveclark5357
      @steveclark5357 7 лет назад +5

      yes and it can be smoked alone, I am enjoying some now, it also makes a very good tea, the taste both smoking or drinking is not as bad as I expected, the tea is actually good, the stuff really works and here in tn. it grows everywhere, I harvestsd about 50 lbs in one short ride on my 4 wheeler, just hang to dry, I'm sure you have some in your yard

    • @brandywilleford9157

      steve clark I live in Alabama on 20 acres and this stuff is everywhere do you have suggestions on how to identify the plants I'm looking into pain relief and epilepsy relief just now learning so to use this type of wild lettuce you would cut the whole thing down hang it to dry and then make a t after you grind it up or smoke it what about the white milky stuff could you just slice some of it and put it under your tongue and let the plant keep growing

    • @commonconservative7551

      about 5 hrs after eating the fresh leaves , and then a tiny amount of weed you get what seems like a second high kicks in that is quite nice....that is the first experience

      It's an adenosine agonist so it makes you feel sleepy. I buy the resin on eBay and smoke it. Probably best to try it wth food dehydrator and roll it into little balls.

    I harvest the plant and dry it and make a tea out of it. Sweeten to taste with raw honey.
    I do the same with plantain and dandelion and clover . Honeysuckle and rose pedals may be added to flavor and I bet add some medicinal properties to the tea. Please share any wisdom on such you have. I’m just a simple mountain man.
