I'm glad that the country my father and grandfathers and great grandfathers built has this technology. I hope we use it wisely. This is in and of itself a deterrent to war.
This is a free country. You can be as successful as you want, you just have to work for it. There's nothing here that prevents you from being the best you can be.
never heard of doing a test on the plane prior to take off, they did these on the drone but cut that part out of the video, in the mean time they elevated the f-18 up notice how there was a massive hole in the deck before, your spidey sense needs re-tingling!
They're not landing it on the carrier until later this week :) , It landed on a nearby base, and is going to be doing test flights around the carrier until then.
I love America. I love the freedom that our government allow us to have. Why hate our country when we've done More for other countries than for ourselves. How many patriots have die for the freedom and justice of others .
notice how there was a big gap in the deck where the f18 was before the 0:40 mark, it came up on the elevator, they must have been doing run up tests on the engines for like 5 mins so they cut that out of the video!
I understand that Drone policy is disregarded as bad, but that shouldn't discourage the advancement of technology. This is a stellar machine, best part about drones is that they're easy to make, and easy to take down.
Flashbacks of the movie Stealth. We all know we've been using different drones for years now (land based) but something like this... This is reality and it really is the future, today. So glad it's us with this technology. Some of the other vids that have been uploaded show different angles, some have close ups! You all should check them out!
The Avionics budget of this craft exceeds the cost of the craft itself. A flight of these craft, in "swarm mode" are capable of rendering a city without infrastructure, open to a land invasion at military budgets so low the program pays for itself. We build off the shoulders of giants. We just might finally be able to spread to space now that we have this tool to protect our backs as we advance at breakneck speed, good things are coming.
I read another story on these and there are two carrier personnel guiding the drone on the ship with some sort of wrist computers. This is also a test so I'm sure they'll work it out more efficently.
Actually, these drones are designed to be autonomously operated. Although a human could take controls remotely at any moment, the craft is meant to take off, carry out its mission, and land completely on its own. The point of the program is to not only have fire-and-forget missiles, but also fire-and-forget bombers and fighters. All they need to do is hit the shiny red button.
ever seen the movie Stealth from 2005? don't say I didn't warn you. But all kidding aside that X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System demonstrator is awesome!
landing hasn't been dun yet this is the X-47b (b-for bravo) The X-47A is the one that will be landing on the carrier in actual conditions later on. The X-47A will start from the base the X-47B landed from and fly to the carrier while its underway.
American avionics are awesome!! From what I understand the flight characteristics of this particular craft is coded within the software - delta G is enormous no human can survive a critical set of turns. if the development is where it should be on this craft this my friends is a "hyper predator". It's capable of "swarming" and fly wing tip to wing tip with other friendly craft in ways that flight manuals have yet to catch up. America is at the top of the military food chain.
A lot of people, like me, dream of a career as a pilot in the Navy or Air Force. I don't care if I'm risking my life or not. It's for my country and I would be proud.
oh yes i understand that your media paints lovely pictures of how every city has a happy church that gladly hands out food to people, and places where generous people serve soup and other essentials to people. those are the privileged parts of your country that have all that good stuff, ;)
I saw this aircraft carrier when I went to the field trip in norfolk,va for Njrotc and my commander was wondering why that stealth plane was on a navy ship.. This kinda answered the question lol
In 2013, The chinese, for the first time , land their jet on a modified boat ( which was done by the United States in 1922) and in 2013, the United States, for the first time, lande their unmaned jets on a carrier and it is not a modified boat. I think china is light years behind the united states. As for maths and science, the US still has the best universities in the world so i dont think the US is behind in anyway.
Uh... no; the X-47A Pegasus was a completely different drone, built for the same program, but was eventually evolved into the X-47B. The plane we see in this video, the X-47B, will be the same plane to land on a carrier in the coming weeks.
As a Senior Chief Petty Officer, who served on 4 different carriers, I think landing one of these aboard with a joystick and computer controls is probably alot easier than with a human in the cockpit. The human is the weak link in this equation. He is also the most expensive part of the aircraft! Which makes the demise of the pilot a certainty!
It is a common misconception that China's population is more educated than the US. To clarify, for those students that actually do receive advanced track education, they are better than the US. However, what is failed to be mentioned is that many students are put into a vocational type path at a very early age. The US educated everyone the same K-12. This is not the case in other countries.
MCPaddyB that's the same crazy thinking that for us in trouble right before we joined up in WW2, we cut or military back bad and then found our selfs in a war and found out quick that our military was shit.....
That's weird. There is no pilot in the cockpit for the plane captain on the deck to signal to. How do they handle the movement of unmanned aircraft on the deck w/ all of those crew around?
psst, they got some alien crafts at areaS4 underground and apparently some live aliens too if they are not dead yet i suppose and they got some scary laser type weapons too.
Manned better than unmanned? Maybe but computers don't blackout from pulling to many G's nor do you have to walk up to the computer manufacturer saying you computer won't be coming home. Both are expensive, but you don't risk a human life with a drone. What would win 1 manned Mig vs say 3 of these?
I'm glad that the country my father and grandfathers and great grandfathers built has this technology. I hope we use it wisely. This is in and of itself a deterrent to war.

It's just the angle of the camera, the lighting and the color of the plane.
You should RUclips videos of its test landings, this thing is ready for prime time. Its scheduled to start making carrier landings at sea very soon

Come a long way since the Wright brothers!
It's the movie Stealth (2005) come to life, amazing the world we live in.
Ill be impressed when i see it land on the deck
Awesome. This is the future.

Drones are OP!
Brave men and women protecting our country and freedom go to Navy thank you do all service personnel
Always wanted to see one of these

You've done it boys!

New favorite aircraft
Stealth comes true!!!

very nice. Looks like Skynet
Yes currently they are. But in the future there will be potential for self processing , self guiding missions. MIT has a small prototype
Go USA! Go Navy! A historic tipping point has arrived! Congratulations to all who made this possible!
My friend is a drone pilot in training, he told me the government is hiring thousands at a time. Yup, human pilots will soon become history.
What amazes me is how close the flight crew are standing next to it. It would think the thrust would push them down.
A lot of people, like me, dream of a career as a pilot in the Navy or Air Force. I don't care if I'm risking my life or not. It's for my country and I would be proud.
Would have loved to seen it land back on the carrier.
someones been living under a rock lately
Welcome to the future bad guys.
oh yes i understand that your media paints lovely pictures of how every city has a happy church that gladly hands out food to people, and places where generous people serve soup and other essentials to people.

Yes, but not a trap (arrested landing on a carrier) they landed it at NAS Patuxent River. They may start carrier landings later in the summer.
They were flying these out in Hawaii a few days ago
Unfortunately this is where we are headed. The same thing happened with flight engineers in the early 90s.
That's sick.
Awesome!
friggin starcraft carrier has arrived
Nice video
I flew in it last week.

learning how to read will give you all the explanation you need, dear

These planes were made to land on aircraft carriers as well, though I don't know if they did that test yet.
" X-47B, it's official you've got a callsign. UCAV "Tinman"X-47B the first."
"X-47B is a Warplane.X-47B must have targets."
Now let's see it land back on the Carrier.
I wanted to be a pilot when I grow up, no point now that the machines are taking over.
Thank you Obama
Ohh an airplane, so impressive!
amazing
Cool story bro.
The hump in the middle of the aircraft is the engine that air past through... it's called a jet engine...
Anything to reduce putting our people in harm's way is always good with me.
I wasn't aware that they were designed to be autonomously operated....I thought they'd be remotely controlled drones. That's pretty interesting...
Awesome
SO FREAKING COOL :D
Damn that's cool

any videos of it landing on the carrier?
Awesome, this is a new era of warfare. No need to put pilots in harms way anymore
MCPaddyB that's the same crazy thinking that for us in trouble right before we joined up in WW2, we cut or military back bad and then found our selfs in a war and found out quick that our military was shit.....
Skynet sounds lika a nice name for a plane.
now show us the carrier based landing, and I'll offer you a standing ovation.
I can imagine the pilots watching this and thinking about how there are going to find new jobs...
That's weird. There is no pilot in the cockpit for the plane captain on the deck to signal to. How do they handle the movement of unmanned aircraft on the deck w/ all of those crew around?
That is power!!!
why has no one cut this clip into the TOP GUN opening scene yet? I feel like thats a no brainer...
Super long range + invisible + super sonic missiles that you can't hear = God's finger
Still working on that one
Huge respect for the navy, army etc, but how do they get the funding even though their country is in severe debt?
Wonder if it was able to land back on the carrier?
Can it also land on the carrier or does it have to fly to a land based runway? Cool though!!
Not just Northrop Grumman but yea I'm with you.
I seen one of these on my home planet.
1:24 awsome on a short runway.
How was the landing? That'd where the pucker factor is!
man...i thought this was a movie at first lol
Not just one But many my friend. The scary thing is that drones don't have emotions and could care less if you are a child
Hell yeah!
Cool!
I thought no, it's real, until an F-18 "suddenly" appeared out of thin air at 0.40seconds.
Then, my CGI suspicions became "Spidey Sensitive".
I live in a Constitutional Republic, Not a democracy. Good day sir.
psst, they got some alien crafts at areaS4 underground and apparently some live aliens too if they are not dead yet i suppose and they got some scary laser type weapons too.
Next on our list is a unmanned aircraft carrier.
Carrier landing scheduled for next month
i wonder if they use hobbyking servos?
That's coming, today was just the first takeoff test, refueling is coming also.
Were they able to land it.
Dream on yellowman!
WHERE did the F-18 suddenly come from at 0.40 seconds?
i will be happy if one of these is going to fly over your house with some nice agm
Where was it being controlled from?
Manned better than unmanned? Maybe but computers don't blackout from pulling to many G's nor do you have to walk up to the computer manufacturer saying you computer won't be coming home. Both are expensive, but you don't risk a human life with a drone. What would win 1 manned Mig vs say 3 of these?
