The flight deck is one of the most dangerous, deadly, and well-orchestrated ballet of controlled chaos in the Nav. These Sailors were taking their sweet, leisurely time practicing launching aircraft - IRL and during war or war-game ops the pace is sped up to 100. I was a Marine on the USS Wasp amphib assault ship and we'd launch Harriers 5 at a time back to back. Five AV8-B's would line up on the flight deck at the same time, one after the other - the lead Harrier's thrust would be used by the Harrier behind it as extra headwind - so on and so forth. One Harrier would reach the one-third to half-way point of the flight deck markings and then the next would start to taxi at full thrust. We'd put 5 birds in the air within 30 - 45 seconds. Love the F35...but man does the F18 Hornet look sleek and mean... I know it replaced the all time favourite F14 and has been in the F14 shadow...but it has earned its respect...
I'm sure scientists and engineers who know about this stuff will laugh at me, but I am always amazed that they found a way to successfully allow the wings to fold on fighter jets like the F/A-18 and F-35C despite all the power of the engines and forces they endure when maneuvering at top speed. I know they may not be capable of matching the agility of solid-wing Air Force aircraft, but it just blows my mind they can still do the extreme maneuvers we see in various vids.
Right, you hear so much about carrier planes needing stronger landing gear and structural strength to handle the stresses of takeoff and landing. And corrosion issues from the salt water and air. But you never hear about the folding wings being a challenge or issue. Maybe it's easier to solve somehow
Just some absolutely badass planes to watch launch !!! God bless the people help get them getting in the air and those flying them also every person on that carrier everyone has an important job on that ship
I was just a Hull Tech that just stood on vultures row a bunch so I really don't know anything about the capabilities of aircraft but it's surprising to me that we're heading toward single engine carrier based stuff. I don't know why it seems wrong on a carrier and out over the big, big ocean but it just does.
You're right. The reason that single engine aircraft were once phased out was because of the very reasons you are imagining. Politics forced it back into action. Recently, the nightmare rang true when a British Lightning caught FOD on launch causing an ejection and loss of aircraft. Last I heard, there was a race to the wreckage by Russians, Chinese and friendlies. You can imagine why they'd love to fish it out first. With 26 years conducting carrier operations, I can say I've seen dozens of engines flame out on the catapult stroke. Good job, politicians.
It looks like both of the vertical stabs are pointed inward. If I had to guess, it's to create more drag above and behind the plane which would drive the rear of the plane down to create a better launch angle once the plane is off the ship. Good eye!
If they are launching from either the port bow cat (Cat 2) or from the waist cats (3 & 4) they are to come left of the ship's direction of travel, in case their flight happens to be very short and immediatly into the water. The 97K ton carrier is not kind to objects in the water. Cat 1 aircraft veer right.
Got to see the Lincoln on it's maiden voyage, I was on the USS Midway CV-41 and we were taking part in Operation Fiery Vigil evacuating Clark Air Base in the PI. Over 18,000 military and civilian personnel evacuated.
@@jameswhite8968 Yep it did, but Midway was the king of the 7th fleet back then. The history that ship has is off the charts and now it's a museum in San Diego. I'd like to visit it before I pass, I live on the east coast now and don't travel much.
iirc it's to make sure all the control surfaces and inputs are operable, the original Top Gun likely would have done this since it was filmed on a carrier with real USN crews. Maybe it was cut out just because they wanted to save time and not have to show the entire aircraft launch sequence, but they definitely should've had to have done this

I was able to see it from my bedroom window when I lived on the 3rd floor at Colby Ave and Pacific Ave…I worked at the Port of Everett back then…2002-2004 such a sight when I walked by the Naval Station Everett! I could also hear the Sea Lions that were on the rocks in the cove there!

The point of the F-35 is too used advanced radar and stealth to detect enemy aircraft and direct friendly fighters to those aircraft. It's not meant to work alone
I agree. The F-18 filled mighty big shoes replacing the F-14, that bird was the definition of Fleet Defense. I think working together, the F-18 and F-35 would make a terrific team to protect the fleet, and inflict heavy damage on an enemy.
Espectacular. Aunque no hay que olvidar que la guerra es horrenda. Pero si miran bien mas espectacular es el mar y el cielo que Dios creo. Spectacular. Although we must not forget that the war is horrendous. But if you look well more spectacular is the sea and the sky that God created.
I wonder what the Navy's equivalent of ASLAR (Aircraft Surge Launch & Recovery) is: a procedure to scramble the maximum number of aircraft in the shortest amount of time?
F-35 doesn't have a particularly wide body and even for how wide it is, it isn't that heavy. The lift fan is in the center and that's a lot of empty space. Further, the body itself is a wing, so you get all the benefit of the skinnier old planes.
There hasn't been an air wing with that many airplanes since A4sand A7s went out of service. Modern air wings are around 60 aircraft, including the helicopters.

Along with combat surface ships and submarines the combined firepower that can be brought to bear either off the shores of any country or on the high seas is apocalyptic. The purpose of any country's navy is to project its power anywhere in the world, any time.

*WHO INVENTED THE SPACE ENTERPRISE?*
In 1543, and with the advent of the Printing Press, the Judaeo-Freemasonry Vatican (Jesuits) published Heliocentricism, ignoring the stationary, unmovable Earth, as stated in their Bible scriptures. Fast forward almost 500 years, where the people are indoctrinated from birth to worship the man-made constructs of Heaven and Space. Faith in Theory = Balltardism

1809 - Theory Transmutation of Species
1923 - Theory Missing Link (bones lost, molds prove find)
1931 - Theory Big Bang (another ejaculation into the virgin source)

Our history and science has been little more then fictional stories these last 2000 years. It began, with obedience from the indoctrinated masses these illiterates who paid tithing for Faith based religion and war. Today, the indoctrinated masses are educated idiots who pay tax on their labor for Theory based science and war. This is the reality propagated across the face of the Earth.

Awesome ! Just amazing technology .
Love the F35...but man does the F18 Hornet look sleek and mean... I know it replaced the all time favourite F14 and has been in the F14 shadow...but it has earned its respect...
I was thinking the same thing. The Hornet's a baaaad machine.
Imagine if a carrier variant of the Raptor had been developed at the beginning like the F-35C.
Junk the new Plaine now is SR 72

SU-57 is way better
I'm sure scientists and engineers who know about this stuff will laugh at me, but I am always amazed that they found a way to successfully allow the wings to fold on fighter jets like the F/A-18 and F-35C despite all the power of the engines and forces they endure when maneuvering at top speed. I know they may not be capable of matching the agility of solid-wing Air Force aircraft, but it just blows my mind they can still do the extreme maneuvers we see in various vids.
Actually, if you saw the way the F6F Hellcat folded its wings, you'd be shocked. That old WW2 warbird could fold its wings like a Lamborghini.
They have had folding wings since the 1930s, nothing new.
Right, you hear so much about carrier planes needing stronger landing gear and structural strength to handle the stresses of takeoff and landing. And corrosion issues from the salt water and air. But you never hear about the folding wings being a challenge or issue. Maybe it's easier to solve somehow
You'd be surprised at how simple it actually is.
They're pretty agile. All the Blue Angel aircraft have folding wings.
Just some absolutely badass planes to watch launch !!! God bless the people help get them getting in the air and those flying them also every person on that carrier everyone has an important job on that ship
2:18. Is this an F22 Raptor? I've gotten into fighter jets pretty recently and am still trying to identify planes😅
No, it is and F-35. The only aircraft in this video are F/A-18's and F-35's.
Looks weird how close the F-35's flaps and elevators are located. The wind flow looks like they would work against each other.

Awesome carrier-based fighter planes F35 & F/ A-18 super hornet!! Greetings from the Philippines 🙂.
Well hello there fellow 🇵🇭
I was just a Hull Tech that just stood on vultures row a bunch so I really don't know anything about the capabilities of aircraft but it's surprising to me that we're heading toward single engine carrier based stuff. I don't know why it seems wrong on a carrier and out over the big, big ocean but it just does.
We have had single engine planes on the boat before. The A-7 was a successful aircraft.
@@Inspadave As was the F-8. It’s been a while since those though
I wonder what the speed of the plane is at the end of the deck launch. It looks so short, it's like 4 plane length
Coool!!! Cannot wait till we get those F35 in Belgium also couldn t they lift up vertically?
I never noticed before that aircraft have full left pedal pushed during launch. reason?
It looks like both of the vertical stabs are pointed inward. If I had to guess, it's to create more drag above and behind the plane which would drive the rear of the plane down to create a better launch angle once the plane is off the ship. Good eye!
F/A-18's do the same. At full up elevator the rudders deflect inboard to channel more air over the elevators on take-off.
Yup f18’s do the same thing!
Good video
F-35 adds a nice strike/fighter to the CAG
Got to see the Lincoln on it's maiden voyage, I was on the USS Midway CV-41 and we were taking part in Operation Fiery Vigil evacuating Clark Air Base in the PI. Over 18,000 military and civilian personnel evacuated.

@@jameswhite8968 Yep it did, but Midway was the king of the 7th fleet back then. The history that ship has is off the charts and now it's a museum in San Diego. I'd like to visit it before I pass, I live on the east coast now and don't travel much.

Love the little wing waggles they do before take off lol, never saw that in the original topgun
iirc it's to make sure all the control surfaces and inputs are operable, the original Top Gun likely would have done this since it was filmed on a carrier with real USN crews. Maybe it was cut out just because they wanted to save time and not have to show the entire aircraft launch sequence, but they definitely should've had to have done this
Beautiful Big Bird, Cool !
These F 35 are really sum sexy planes .💪
That F-35C sure looks sexy.
Beautiful plane indeed. I remember when our A7E squadron transitioned to the F/A-18, we thought they looked awesome. Think we were the 3rd east coast fleet squadron to transition. That was 32 years ago.. Wow how tine flies.
@@karlt8233 Yeah man, love the hornet, one of all-time favorites. I remember when the Tomcat was number one back in the 80's. Was soo proud. But this bird right here is love. Love the tech, the architecture, the performance. You betcha!👍
I’m not a fan man. They look chubby and unathletic. And in my opinion super hornets look more aggressive
The farmer operator of the film - level God! I never saw a expensive fat cow take off.
The integration of the F-35 in the F-18 on the carrier's is so important because it is a transition period where we going to phase out the F-18 tomorrow ball them about the F35 they're going to continue into a Gallop until we change that 35 lot of modifications are coming to F-35 but I'm most impressed with his avionics systems
This is just beautiful.
USS Abraham Lincoln is a beauty however my favourite is the USS Nimitz. The reason why I said this is because of Commander Chester William Nimitz who was outgunned and outnumbered and still won the war against the empire of Japan (Battle of the Midway)!!. With respect from Kosovo.
A true hero
And thank God he had Admiral Spruance to send out there to Midway!
The USS Theodore Roosevelt conducted strike operations to protect the people of Kosovo from genocide. You might want to consider CVN 71 as your favorite.
doesn't matter the aircraft, best place to stand on the flight deck is by the JBDs (jet blast deflectors) and feel the heat! Was always my favorite place when up there on the deck.
The f-35 makes those hornets look ancient

Camera is in the wrong position. Could not see the actual takeoff.
Awesome Video! Before the Lincoln left Everett Wa. I was able to see it from my bedroom window when I lived on the 3rd floor at Colby Ave and Pacific Ave…I worked at the Port of Everett back then…2002-2004 such a sight when I walked by the Naval Station Everett! F-18s
I don’t see them completely replacing the F18, but I could certainly see them working together!
I think it could replace it.

I wonder what the Navy's equivalent of ASLAR (Aircraft Surge Launch & Recovery) is: a procedure to scramble the maximum number of aircraft in the shortest amount of time?
Sorry, but there is nothing more beautiful than an F14 launch.
Drop the nose, spread the wings, full after burn
F35 looks like when F22 let it go and had too many donuts.

F-35 doesn't have a particularly wide body and even for how wide it is, it isn't that heavy. The lift fan is in the center and that's a lot of empty space. Further, the body itself is a wing, so you get all the benefit of the skinnier old planes.
The C varient has larger wingspan than A or B.
@@generalralph6291 only the F-35B has a lift fan, the navy uses F-35C, but yeah
It is hard to believe, that this ship can carry 80 of these huge air crafts.

There hasn't been an air wing with that many airplanes since A4sand A7s went out of service. Modern air wings are around 60 aircraft, including the helicopters.

Simple question, who press the trigger to launch the plane? Pilot? or controller on the carrier?
I'm no expert and I know the F-35 is more advanced but in my humble opinion, the Hornet is a badder looking bird.
The name of the ship is USS Abraham Lincoln(CVN 72). Not USS Lincoln. Otherwise good video. Just in case anyone wants to know USS Abraham Lincoln is deployed right now to the Mediterranean without F-35Cs. She will be moving to the Persian Gulf region soon. Very soon.
