You guys said this one had to be next, BOOM!! Checking out CCR’s Roots!!! What’s the next song we gotta check out by them?! Hope you guys have a great weekend! We should have another chill session vid for you guys soon!! Cheers! 🤟🏻🔥
This is actually a cover. They did it as a homage. Originally done by Screaming Jay Hawkins from the 1950s he dressed up as whitch doctor. A pivotal song in the Birth of Rock n Roll
Thank you, salsonny! I knew someone from the 50s sang this first, but I couldn't remember the name! Screaming Jay Hawkins! Yes! Thank you for jogging my ol' memory! Ha! :-)
And they followed the pattern of music, just not the type of voodoo-like stuff Jay's band put out. I didn't really like the original version, and I usually like the original stuff like Howling Wolf and others from that area.
@@mbdawg The original was by Marvin Gaye, then Gladys Night and the Pips and then CCR. CCR made it their own with that 11 version off the Cosmos Factory LP.
The original by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins is sensational. Definitely worth a listen. But in terms of CCR, you’ve gotta listen to Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, their cover of Marvin Gaye’s I Heard it Through the Grapevine, and Down on the Corner
Technically, and pedantically, their version of Gladys Knight and The Pips' - I Heard It Through The Grapevine as she recorded it first. Its good too, equally as good if not better than Marvin Gaye's. Maybe !
Definitely check out the Jay Hawkins version, it's a bit rough and you won't listen to it everyday, but wow!!! I was speechless after listening to it the first time
Proud Mary, Down on the Corner, who'll stop the rain, green river, up around the bend, keep on chooglin', ... you could do a couple dozen more from CCR...
Run through the jungle As long as I can see the light (my personal fave) Down on the corner BUT you MUST listen to "I heard it through the grapevine" - the FULL 11 min (I think its that long) version which melds into a jamming session and is just amazingly amazing.
You really can't go wrong with Creedence. "Suzy Q" is my favorite, but they have so dang many great songs. They do an awesome version of "Heard it Through the Grapevine", or for more high energy "Up Around the Bend".
Is the guy that actually wrote this song that guy that had like a shit ton of illegitimate children with a shit ton of different baby mamas? Isn't that him? Great song. Just sayin. 😆🤘
As pointed out, this is CCRs cover of an old blues song. So it's really just them jamming as opposed to a strong example of their future songwriting skills. That being said, they are creative with their arrangement of it.
CCR was and will remain one of the most influental bands of the past! Next up: Susie Q, Heard It Through The Grapevine, Molina, Run Through The Jungle Play the extended versions, whenever possible, to get lost in the sauce! Stay cool, guys! ✌
This is my favorite CCR song, followed by "Heard it Through the Grapevine." Everything about this song is first class. I have the option of listening through computer speakers, or through nice home speakers, with a 15" subwoofer I have in my computer room. I had to turn on the nicer stereo for this one. I love that guitar solo. It really captures the intent of the song. Great choice guys.
I randomly just found your channel and I’ve enjoyed your reactions to great tunes I’ve enjoyed for years. I appreciate the whisky and your appreciation to the music. Wish you continued success
Creedence did a lot of covers, so keep an eye on the credits when you do one of their tracks. This is probably my 2nd favorite cover, after "I Heard it Through the Grapevine".
You guys REALLY need to do a Suite Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby, Stills and Nash. The vocal harmonies will knock you for a loop.....the best in the business.
Another great CCR tune from the days of my beer drinking/pot smokin' early teens thru 20s. Hell, even my mom liked Creedence, God rest her soul. She would've been 83 this year. Thanks so much for bringing this kind of music back into the sunlight. I love that young people are exploring and even enjoying these old, amazing bands from my youth. Love you guys!!! ✌
That's so bizarre, because I absolutely love the drumming on this. I really do. He creates the exact perfect amount of space for this thing to live and breathe in and that crisp swing stuff on the ride cymbal, and when they hit those building triplets on the turnarounds, his snare pattern is just so awesome, it's their syncopated and then it's there and then it's solidly there and it loads in a crescendo and then it's back to just the driving ride cymbal and a really spacious kick and snare pattern. This album totally rocks - check out Penthouse Pauper and Cross Tie Walker from this album for some more bangers.
Guys try a long Neil Young guitar jam like Down by the River or Cowgirl in the Sand. It's the most filthy, grungy music you can imagine, and he leaves in all the wrong notes and botched chords. You'll have to give up box checking a little bit and work without a net.
Another great choice guys. CCR had an amazing string of hits, especially considering they were only together 4 years. You mentioned John Fogerty's great rock voice, well, you need to check out Bob Segar & the Silver Bullet Band; Katmandu, Get Out of Denver, both great rockers with outstanding vocals. I think Bob Seger has the best rock voice, period. Keep em coming guys!
jimmy fortrue Cosmos Factory is definitely one of those albums you can drop the needle anywhere and get a great song. Love both of those songs btw. Especially Run through the Jungle.
CCR is great. First songs I learned on guitar. This is the best version of this song. The guy that wrote it sounds like he wanted to kill the bitch. My older brother brought this lp home and we smoked some Alcapolco Gold and listend to this and I got to stoned so I went to my bedroom and hugged my pillow. That is my memory of first hearing this.
Kind of amazing how many great CCR tunes you've reacted too- even crazier that there are even MORE that are just as good or better that you've yet to get to!
Johnny Winter is an amazing bluesman! Check out Rick Derringer's song Rock And Roll Hootchie Coo! I think you would love it! Rick Derringers first album is one of those rare albums where all of the songs rock!

Gonna beg for this one. Again. Next CCR, "As Long As I Can See The Light." Not a radio hit, not a "banger" in the traditional sense, but beautiful and bluesy and Fogertys voice is just stunning. But Run Through The Jungle works too
YAY!!! You finally slowed down enough where I could understand what you were saying!!! I've been waiting for this day for so long. I just ran into the bedroom to tell my wife, I was so excited. "...a great day AS WELL AS a great life." I can finally rest easy. Thank you, Andy. You made my day.
Love me some CCR. John Fogerty has such a distinctive voice. And once again you guys have picked a band that performed at Woodstock in '69. You should add the Woodstock double album to your personal collections.
Good onya boys . . .you are doing your generation a huge service by presenting this music and then discussing it . .I grew up with every note of this song and all the others, and I think myself privileged by hearing it for the first time . . keep researching this formative genre and presenting it to your wonderful generation . .musicians past and present will be honoured and pleased to know that your generation cares. . bless you all. I think "Midnight Special" and "Heard it Through the Grapevine" will take you to A level. Two other general recommendations- "Child in Time" Deep Purple and "Love is the Drug" Roxy Music.
Please react to [CCR - Ramble Tamble], I think its the most underrated song of theirs, an amazing psychedelic swamp rock trip. I listen it at least once a day :D
This is by far the best cover of this song. You should watch the concert footage, so good. Keep up these reaction videos I look forward to them every day.

I remember in 12th grade my English teacher had us listen CCR the entire period. That was her favorite group. It was a fantastic time to grow up in! There will never be music like the 60s and 70s put out again.
Dudes, thanks for reacting to a CCR song I've wanted you to cover for awhile. One of the things I appreciate most about your videos is your intuitive covering of the musical tone, atmosphere and deliverance of the songs you react to. Your mind adopts to the analytics of the music but doesn't neglect the visceral, instinctive body reactions to the music you just heard. Great work, as usual. Stay well. Cheers....
If I'm not mistaken, same drummer... love this song. John really lets go with his vocals. You should really check out Annie Lennox's cover of this. Will give you goosebumps and chills....yes Run Through The Jungle should be next. Thanks guys.
CCR was the bomb way back when . you should hear 'I heard it through the Grape vine'. Its fabulous. John Fogerty was a perfectionist when it came to CCR`s music. I have read that Fogerty was arguing with the drummer quiet frequently. There is video where they had been arguing and on the video Fogerty was checking the drummer .Yall Should react to Grand Funk Railroad. Inside looking out . When they did that song they was a three piece band . In this song the bass was separated from the guitar and the bass was thumping .Mark Farners voice was incredible. The drummer had like a 5 piece drum set maybe a 6 or 7 piece drum set . The drummer played the drums like there was no tomorrow . The guitar was awesome .
I agree, Alex. The drums on the other versions of this song have drums that compliment and even set the entire mood of how it sounds...These sound a lot more "formal" or "set" to where in other versions, they're as wild and animalistic as the song deserves.
CCR had the swampy blues sound in spades! There are so many great songs that they did. Run Through The Jungle is another great song, written about the Vietnam War. Good Stuff! BTW, I'd still love to hear you guys review Robin Trower's Bridge Of Sighs. Keep it up guys! Thanks for the memories and the reviews!
this is the kind of blues ya play when you're drunk out of your mind on moonshine sittin around on the bayou....so down and dirty...love it....stay safe/well.....peace

John Fogerty on guitar and vocals. That guy is amazing
CCR version of "heard it through the grapevine" is a must hear 👋✌❤
You mean the original version? ❤️
One of my favorite songs from CCR

Down on the Corner - I always associate it with the movie One Crazy Summer (John Cusak and a bunch of other greats), it's in a noteworthy scene.,.
I couldn't have said it better than you have! The boys will love it all, including the history of the songs.

Agreed to all that Wendy said. Nobody has done "See the Light" yet, AFAIK. Such a great song and so unique.
I'm almost 59 and I've never met anyone who didn't like CCR.
Let me introduce myself....Sorry just never liked them, anything they ever did.
My ex wife didn't like ccr, maybe that why we are divorced now, more power to her
Bonnie B : So ? Who cares !
So am l (58).still love the hot grandmas from the 70's

Grapevine is a must!
This is a cover by screamin’ Jay Hawkins written in 1956 and re-recorded by like a million other artists!! But such a great version
It is indeed one of the few versions that really does it justice. Arthur Brown also did a good cover of this around the same time.

Nina Simone's versión all day. Her voice and the sax solo is incredible.

Max Miller Run through the jungle and old man down the road John Fogerty was sued for plagiarizing himself because of these two songs
Sweet Hitchhiker
One of the best songs about Vietnam.

Keep On Chooglin is fascinating to me because it is literally nearly 8 minutes on one chord, but somehow stays interesting throughout.
Nothing but good can come from listening to CCR they're that great.
The drumming was stiff...You mean like the computer-generated drumming of today lol?
You two dudes, thanks for playing this. Nice homage to the truly great Screamin' Jay Hawkins original - which is astonishing!!
Screaming Jay Hawkins, who did this song originally, is more intense and for me more interesting.
Absolutely!
The original is kind of a must to appreciate the covers. The intensity makes more sense.
Samantha Fish's live covers also deserve a listen.

If I'm not mistaken, same drummer... love this song. John really lets go with his vocals. You should really check out Annie Lennox's cover of this. Will give you goosebumps and chills....yes Run Through The Jungle should be next. Thanks guys.
Great choice!! Run through the jungle and heard it through the grapevine has some killer guitar solos!!
This song is all magic
Hideaway and it came out of the sky are 2 of my favourite songs of all time good God that voice
Thank you always.
Dudes... You've GOT to watch the live version from Woodstock! Fogarty tortures his Rickenbacker on the solo. The tone is absulotely amazing!!
Great comments, run through the jungle, green river, heard it through the grapevine, Lookin out my back door (amusing lyrics) etc......
I Heard It Through the Grapevine next please. You will love it❤🎵
this is the kind of blues ya play when you're drunk out of your mind on moonshine sittin around on the bayou....so down and dirty...love it....stay safe/well.....peace
