Just like with the Nine Inch Nails song 'Hurt' that got owned by Johnny Cash (as Trent Reznor stated it) simply by doing his version of it, this has become CCR's song, without discrediting Jay Hawkins of course.

This is one of the best versions of this song. CCR has always been one of my favorites. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. They don't have a bad song! Huge list of hits! "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Proud Mary", "Fortunate Son", "Down On The Corner", "Green River", "The Midnight Special", "Susie Q", "Born On The Bayou", "Travelin' Band", "Run Through The Jungle", "Sweet Hitchhiker", "Bad Moon Rising" etc.

    CCR
    These members had played together
since 1959, first as the Blue Velvets and later as the Golliwogs, before settling on Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967. The band's most prolific and successful period between 1969 and 1971 produced fourteen consecutive Top 10 singles (many of which were double A-sides) and five consecutive Top 10 albums in the United States - two of which, Green River (1969) and Cosmo's Factory (1970), reached number one. The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival in Upstate New York, and was the first major act signed to appear there.

I Put a Spell on You" is a 1956 song written and composed by Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins, whose own recording of it was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. It was also included in Robert Christgau's "Basic Record Library" of 1950s and 1960s recordings-published in Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies (1981)[5]-and ranked No. 313 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The selection became a classic cult song covered by a variety of artists and was his greatest commercial success, reportedly surpassing a million copies in sales,[6][7] even though it failed to make the Billboard pop or R&B chart

CCR is a phenomenon in that they were from the Bay Area of California but sounded SO Southern. In fact, so southern that their music became known as “swamp rock” because it sounded to us like music from the bayous of Louisiana. In fact, one of their biggest hits was Born on the Bayou.
John Fogerty has such a distinct voice. You always know it when you hear it.

Your reaction is exactly how I felt in my teen years during the 60s when I first heard songs like this from CCR and all of the other great bands. My emotions ran sky high and to this day, in my early 70s, I get those same emotions as I hear them once again. I can die knowing that I lived during the greatest era of R&R, southern rock, early metal, et al. Peace out.

He is John Fogerty. For decades he lost control of his music rights. Scammed by the agent. Now he is BACK. So happy for him and his fans.

CCR Tombstone Shadow, the studio cut or live is a great blues vibe.
