The song "Keep On Chooglin' " is also on the Bayou Country album. As is "Graveyard Train", a song that I first heard on a dark and stormy midnight in Houston, Texas in 1968, over a high-powered Mexican radio which drowned out the local radio station signals. It was the scariest thing that my preteen self had ever heard, and John Fogerty's tortured voice and haunting tale had me puling up the covers over my head. I was determined to stay up until midnight from then on because that is when that particular station began playing everything CCR that they could find. A Time magazine article from that period pegged it right when it stated that Creedence Clearwater Revival gave out 'the malarial chills".
Bayou is full of gators, exotic birds, moss and waist high water and thick vegetation. For some ppl that had never visited this part of the nation at the time this was recorded, they (CCR) captured the very essence of the Bayou
The Bayou is the swamp country that the French kicked out of Canada came to in Louisiana. They established a special culture of Cajun that has its own language, culture, food , and music.
For a period from 1969 through mid-1971, CCR records outsold The Beatles, Elvis, the Stones... all of them. I was lucky enough to be a college student in the Bay Area during that period. Saw them at The Fillmore twice in 1969. AMAZING!
CCR was like Italian food - everybody likes it. Fogarty had such a righteous and soulful voice. As you say he "took you there". "Swamp Rock" at its best. The bayou country has a strong French influence and culture. The French were kicked out of Acadia by the British who renamed it Nova Scotia. The Acadians - Cajuns - fetched up in Louisiana which at the time belonged to France. Many lived in Maine as well where I grew up. As a child I heard more French than English. The US is very diverse, we don't need any more diversity

My favourite band growing up. As soon as you heard the opening bars you knew it was a CCR song I especially loved the opening of "up around the bend" .
Love they way your faces lit up once it kicked in. Can't tell you how may times when we partied and put this tune on around midnight and we would get sweaty and grooving to this nasty masterpiece.... so glad you did this one......

Glad you two enjoy CCR! I'm a 64 yr old grandmother who grew up in the south and this band (CCR)along with Lynyrd Skynyrd were the soundtracks of my teen years. In the summer, my friends, brother and sisters and I spent most every weekend in a speed boat on a lake here in West Virginia with this music blasting. What wonderful memories I have to treasure❤❤❤❤❤

A bayou is a low Lying flat land that is usually flooded with slow moving water.. it (the water) can be brackish and stagnant.. but it is great habitat for fish and other marine life and fauna.. a hoodoo is a spirit of some sort
As I listen to your reaction here, I can't help but think there are similar folk type artistic expressions from near where you are. This is a somewhat romanticized and nostalgic look at this area of America. I can definitely see two people just like yourselves, but from the bayou on a reaction channel reacting to things they are learning about culture elsewhere in the world. Those that actually live life on the bayou don't necessarily have it easy at all. Statistically very poor, comparatively, and it lends itself to other thoughts of happiness that are completely disengaged from money or possessions. That is part of the mental release. This is what I think attracts many to this folk-style that is also an integral part of true rock and roll.

After that, *Susie-Q, Green River* & all those blues covers they did on the first couple of albums: *Ninety Nine & a Half Won't Do, Penthouse pauper, I Put A Spell On You.* After that their output was less & less "inspired" but they still enjoyed commercial success

The Fogerty brothers hale from El Cerrito, CA, next to Berkely. I was a freshman in High School and I did not appreciate their catalogue until a few years later. I felt like it was not authentic, and you have to understand the incredible number of fire bands that came from the Bay Area alone. However, they did capture the AM airwaves and had a good number of hits. I can give them their due now but in 1969 I was not listening to the AM radio that much. It was the burgeoning era of underground FM stations like KSAN and KMPX. I absolutely love your enthusiasm and authentic reactions. Thank you!
I´ve heard this band since i was 6-7 years old. The music came from my older brothers room along with some spicy smoke 😁 Now i´m nearly 60 and i still love this band. Especially "Long as i can see the light". Damn beautiful tune. Thanks for uploading & greetings from Denmark
I got to see these guys at Olympia Stadium in Detroit back and I think around 1970 and they were phenomenal just phenomenal and this was their first song tore the house down. Love your reactions keep it up. You are just so lovable. Another song that takes you away is by Bob Seger is called. Roll me away great song
After CCR broke up, lead singer/writer, John Fogerty went on his own. For many years he would not perform the songs he wrote with CCR, due to how the percentage of ownership rights were not favorable to him. After quite a long time, he did soften and began singing the old songs again. He has recently acquired sufficient ownership percentage/rights that are more favorable to him.

I believe (but I could be wrong) that the guitar pattern and rhythm of this song was referred to by John Fogarty as "chooglin."

I saw ccr in 68 or 69. They are the only act i ever saw that sounded as perfect live as they did on their studio recordings.

CCR is the best, Bayou is a swampy area. Hoodoo is a dark spirit/ghost. Hound dog is a large country dog. 4th of July is American Independence Day.
