- An unexpected discovery at a Phoenix Goodwill led to a viral moment, a chance to be on Antiques Roadshow, and further proved a woman’s knack for spotting valuable art as a thrifter.
I had a Goodwill painting I bought for $5 , had it appraised.
....it's worth $2.50.
LMAO
🤣🤣🤣
😂
Wow.. the original owners missed out.
rofl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One time I found an ugly Kate Spade purse at a thrift store for $7 figured I can resell it for at least $50 since it was authentic…. Turned out the purse was a limited edition and I sold it for $800! Go thrifting, you never know what you’ll find!
But the question that really matters....did you sell it for 800??!! I once had this Ralph Lauren pants that were worth 3,000 but they were so ugly I couldn't give them awaty
@@Melsincatuation yeah i sold it for $800!
@@giselleperez5308 nice!!
Wow that’s amazing 🤩
Haha score
I love art! When I'm thrifting I've made it a habit to look at the art. Unfortunately I haven't had luck like this woman.
Because it's a lie
@@sandyarizona3471 how's that? I don't think this could be a lie.
A work of Art is worth as much as a SUCKER is willing to pay for it. I don't care who the artist is, an oil painting is just a piece of canvas stretched over a wooden frame with some oil based paint brushed on the canvas. That such an item can get bids in the millions at a Snob Art Auction merely demonstrates that they are people who have SO Much Money that they have run out of more reasonable things to buy.
She should def keep it!!! Actually that girl looks like her too!!
Also..I once found 100$ bill in goodwill folded up really small in a wallet I bought!! I thought it was fake at first..but no it was real!!
My thought exactly😎😎
She already found a million dollar painting years ago, this must have been disappointing! Lol
Thought they were going say it was worth millions. Not that $2000 still isn’t too shabby for my broke ass
Maybe it would be worth more if someone hadn't painted a cat on it because I can tell the cat is not on the same level or style of painting as the woman is but why is the woman's hands posed like that if the cat is not original to the painting? 🤔
@@karenmilligan5597 I'm just guessing here, (lol) but maybe the woman in the painting had been holding something else, & whatever it was was painted over with the cat, covering it up? Or maybe the arms/hands were added in, _too,_ at the time the cat was added in? In _my_ opinion, the woman in the painting _had_ to have been holding _something_ because she's too off-center to not have been holding something. 🤷🏻♀️🌷🕊️
🤣🤣🤣
I have a similar story. I found a painting from Paul W Woods my thrift store paintings and art was 75% off that day I got it for $5.77 I looked up the artist is it great abstract artist lots of stained glass work and he's written books. His son replied to my message on his Museum page his last painting sold for $2800 and that was 9x13 my painting is much larger! Painted in 1973 so it's at least worth $2,800! Best return on my money ever! But I think I will send it to his Museum so others can enjoy it as well. His son said they had not seen that painting ever so it was a new one to them too!
That's very kind of you.
I think other people should be able to see it with his other works
Just because a painting is bigger by a well known artist doesn’t necessarily always guarantee it’s worth more money, just a friendly fyi 🙃🖤
@@djjones7039 good point
I bought a Star Wars coffee mug at Goodwill
While putting it in the car the glued handle fell off and broke.
Lol
I believe it! When i was on Facebook marketplace I got a painting for $10 i got it appraised and it's worth over $500!
I found one at the Salvation Army picked it up for $5 and it's worth $100.
They are out there! It doesn't happen often but if you have a good eye and a little bit of luck there are nice items out there!
just because i wanted to talk about my small recent find, i found an old set of books for kids that i bought all 35 for 35 dollars they are worth over 175 all together. lol
@@pkwithmeplease it's fun finding those hidden treasures!! Good find!! 🙌🙌
Buy a painting because you like it. she did.
I call B.S. ON THIS.that store has only garbage not worth buying. Most goodwill puts any fine painting up for auction.
Also they rather spend 2 mins talking about a worthless painting and 10 seconds talking about her million dollar find…
🧢
You think any of those Goodwill employees could tell the difference between expensive art and some random piece? Yeah! Employees would take things like nice shoes or designer brands but it's not like they would inspect every painting to have it appraised.
Not if they don't know it's fine.
Artist I never heard of...
Years ago when living in California, a friend of mine and her mother would go the thrift stores yard sales, estate sale, etc. She found a bracelet , which the person selling it said it was $5.00. So she bought it. A few days later she took it to a jewelry store to see if it was fake or not. She came to find out her $5.00 rhinestones and beads bracelet was worth over $5,000.00. What was thought to be rhinestones, turned out to be rare pure white diamonds and the fake pearls were a rare kind of pearls, In the bracelet there were 20, 1/4 cart diamonds and over 100 rare pearls. So she decided to sell it $10,000.00
Someone did buy it for $8,000.00
estate sales are the best because people are just trymg to get rid of things and dont understand the value
You can definitely tell the cat does not have the same consistency as the woman in the painting 🖌️🎨
Damn whoever added the cat to it obviously has an amazing talent
Those same people giving appraisals wouldn't even pay that much. Her other painting that supposedly is worth 1 mill, is only 1 million when she finds a buyer willing to pay that. Otherwise, it's just these appraisal people talking out of their asses.
Tell me you don't understand what an appraisal is about without telling me.
Appraisals are more than just potential value at sell, it's also replacement value used for insurance claims. That is if some fire breaks out and you lose whatever the insurance will pay you it's appraised value. So no, it's not just some people talking out of their asses.
@@MrMackievelli yes it is..
Edit: like that banksy art piece with a girl holding a balloon. Then after it got shredded it went up in value? That's stupid AF! Got sold for 25 million. Morons with money buying crap from a bum. You can buy property and rent it out for 25 million.
I have a Haitian painting that I bought from the Goodwill for $6.25 that's worth $8,500
That hideous painting is "worth" one million dollars?!
Lol I know right
Picasso I think
I can sure live with the ugliest millionaire. As long as I don’t have to sleep with him/her.
the more hideous the more expensive. "art" is subjective. i like rap music lmao
That’s usually how it goes. The ugliest most uninteresting ones are worth a lot.
Glad to hear your good fortune Goodwill has gotten greedy on everything these past few years.
I saw a Banksy print in a thrift shop priced at $3.99. For some reason, I didn't buy it, figured that it was a fake (?) Of course, when I went back to the shop the next day, the print was gone.
Just a print?...,yeah probably not worth much.
A lady bought a 10 dollar painting from goodwill in Utah back in 2009 and it was a Rembrandt worth 1.5 million bucks. Sucks somebody added that cat and ruined the painting.
@Paul Smith true but I would definitely get a high end professional to do it. Then I'd be worried.
SMH the cat MAKES the painting!!!
Can't they have some art restore take that cat off?
No one has ever found a Rembrandt in a Goodwill.
Can y’all stop making these stories news? So the rest of us have a chance before goodwill keeps jacking up prices on the actual junk lol
I agree
Truth
Too late. Have you looked at the prices recently.
Very true
I love thrift shops, you never know what you can find there…
So before the cat was added, what was she holding?
the magical orb of nature.
A light sabre
I heard one even better a woman bought a bowl for her cat for a quarter and used it as a feeding dish it turns out it was a bowl from the Hun/ Ming dynasty she said it was ugly but couldn't pass it up for a quarter.
I have done the same thing countless times. Good eye girl. Congratulations Max the Cat.
I've been going since the sixties too. Last time I left a solid oak table and the 4 chairs for $50... Now I sing " o what a fool am I"
I bought a Picasso "joie de vivre" (joy of life) at the Goodwill in casa grande that I'm trying to get info on ...
Who ever added the cat ruined it. So ugly, but if they just painted over the top coat. I think it can be easily removed by a professional.
A friend bought a bracelet for $5 n turnout to b around $15,000-25,000 gold with real tiny diamonds according to the jewelry owner (she took it there to get it fix n cleaned)
It would be interesting to see with a scan what should be there?
$32? So this one here in Michigan isn't the only Goodwill jacking up the prices... good... good...
Oh and check out my what's really happening playlist for over 4,400 videos from channels you probably don't know about, I share videos and channels on the incoming planetary system that this is all distraction from...
an expert can remove the added cat etc and probably help restore its value
I can tell the cat added in the painting is not on the same level as the woman in the painting. Still nice.
EDIT: The hands and at least one arm doesn't look right either to look as good as the woman's face which is original after taking a third look.
I can't imagine paying even $32 for that ugly thing!
i found a Bob Ross painted Goldpan at 7th and Bell goodwill for 7.99 it wasnt with the paintings it was with the iron rod stuff down low but im keeping it because im from Alaska! I love it!
Treasure is everywhere
Awesome find!!!!
I fantasize about this happening to me! I can't tell you the number of Goodwill paintings I have in my closet that I hope are my tickets to financial freedom! LOL
i found some immaculate (and rare) vintage polk studio monitors at a goodwill once, priced $17 for the pair. the next week the same exact store sold me a klipsch 12" copper cone subwoofer for $30. audio is my go-to but now i will keep my eyes open for art!!
Damn. That’s around 1/3rd the amount I need for my surgery, it’s definitely a good idea to keep it in case she needs the money someday!
Goodwill charging that much for a painting? ludicrous
Wonder if a skilled conservator could remove the cat and restore it to its original form. I’ve seen this done with an old Dutch painting.
That's what I was thinking I'd go have that cat taken off bye-bye Kitty
Amazing!
Gotcha Greedwill!
I ❤ my local Goodwill Store.
well remove the cat by a certified professional carefully and then have it appraised .
Yeah the cat looks terrible.
I found a signed Ansel Adams photographic print at my local Habitat for Humanity thrift store for $.10 back in 98. It was water damaged but even with the damage I sold it five years later on eBay for $5,500. Had it not been water damaged it would have been between $20,000 to $25,000.
Absolutely nothing in Goodwill should be $32 they have lost their way in life and stopped helping people and started helping themselves
GenZ don't know anything.
Wait.. who was the artist of the original she got in Europe..the reporter didn't say .was it a Picasso?
I would’ve snapped that up in a hot second. Whoever created it obviously knew what they were doing, as in they understood how to compose and execute a work of art, use light and shadow, paint, etc. --the cat, not so much 😂
That cat’s face looked abstract!
The way her hands are positioned, I find it difficult to believe the "cat was added on later".
Exactly nice catch
The cat was added later? What was there/covered up because that's an odd hand position if nothing was there originally.
What were her arms doing before the cat was added?
Hot dog, I mean cool cat. Good for you.
Good for u lady
2k ? fake cat? should have reported on the million dollar painting instead
I can’t wait until someone finds my art one day. 🤣
Im surprised Goodwill had it marked for $32, usually theyre less, since they obviously had no idea what its value was.
That picture is worth money? Haha. Damn
Hopefully she shares her good fortune back to Good Will
Why? They screw people over and they are supposed to be non profit but the ceo makes a million a year.
Goodwill is FOR PROFIT...
I got burnedby by being a know it all. Thought I found a treasure paid 2000 bucks only worth like 400
Yeah, I love that last line yall.....sounds like she didn't sell that million dollar painting though......wonder if she still has that, too.
This never happens to me. Usually what I buy is worth less than what i pay for it. The Goodwill worker is now fired!
Price? Value
Funny if I'm not mistaken there was a tv episode of a picture like this a elderly lady would buy oil paintings and redo them a lady that did intero home design saw the painting had been sold she got the buyer's information went to buy the painting from her.She was disable her son lived with her. Long story short she killed the lady when she told them how much the painting was worth. You never know what you will find Junking (thrift store shopping )
You never know what you will find I found a few old stereos I sold for a few $$ over the years but a painting would be a whole another ballpark b
I bought a bicycle for $100 but I knew the brand was $.....ebay for $1005
Well shes got a good eye for stuff, thats for sure.
Who would ADD a cat to someone else's work????!!!!!!!
Should be worth more
She ended up with cat scratch fever 🤒 lol 🤪😜😛
Talk about burying the lead- what did she do with the MILLION DOLLAR painting? With that, who cares about the $2,000 one!
Some ppl are just lucky like that
7th Ave Indian school !
Good for her but she'd do A LOT better patronizing a different thrift store. One that does not high gross the needy people that can't afford to shop retail. Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona are the most corrupt, discriminatory, greedy people in the history of Goodwill.
Burt v. Goodwill 9th District Federal Court
Three days after returning from spine surgery and after having worked there eight years (9 stores when I started, 53 when I left) my pay was cut by $5280/year! A violation of FMLA, so I filed with EEOC and that's when the onslaught of brutality began.
The EEOC found in my favor for FMLA Violation, Failure to Accommodate, Harrassment, Wrongful Termination and you know what the real kicker is? All I wanted was to simply do what under the law I should have been able to do.
Shame on Jim Teeter, Tim O'Neal, Kimberly Jensen-Columbia, Michelle Geiger, Nobu, Dolan and every chicken sh*it that couldn't simply do the right thing!!!!!
Max s is pretty cute
Funny thing is, she looks like the woman in the painting, too. Fate...eerie lol
She looks like the lady on the picture not just here cat
Did any of her winnings go to the Thrift store? I'ts a charity, you know.
So if the cat wasn't added later the value would be much higher
Only $2000..I thought it was worth 100 grand or something
I wouldn't have paid $5 for that ugly thing. In fact, I totally get why it ended up in a Goodwill store.
Look at the cat. That's a terrible artist.
I just love theifting
Thrifting not theifting. Lmbo
The painted cat looks gawdy next to the expert portrait.
An original what? It might be worth a million but would go into the trash can if I had to value it.
First Rule when finding a million dollar painting at Goodwill...Keep Your Mouth Shut!
Lol only 2k
Bruh 2000$.
,,,,,,imo...........,,,,,,,,she still had to pay too much,,,,,for something that was free,(donated)....!,,,,,,if they missed grading it as it came through the back,,,so it is,,,,,..........what a rackett, this store is,,,,just think.......😯,,,,,,,,not sorry.
I wouldn't buy it for more than $300
She gonna keep it bcz her cat anha… to wait to paint get more value then donate the money to the cat’s mother. This people do all the time stupid stories; at its finest.
But it wasn't worth anything.
What kind of bonehead paints over another artists painting? I guess it worked out for her though since she may not have taken it without her cat twin on it lol
Original crap
Who cares
Creepy pic
