I'm still a junior in high school, but I'm a cello major at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California and I hope to become a professional cellist one day. I absolutely love your playing and these videos are very helpful to get an insight into your playing style! You are one of my favorite living cellists and it's one of my musical dreams to get the chance to play for you one day! I wish you could record your thoughts on the Dvorak Cello Concerto next! (The concerto I am currently working on) Thank you so much!! Michael.

Inbal Segev I am enjoying these and I realize that they are very time consuming for you to produce. Please continue. I am grateful for your insights. And love all your playing.

I'm amazed at the number of people who have tuned in to watch this wonderful video. They cannot ALL be cellists! I am only an amateur classical pianist. Ms. Segev is absolutely correct in her point about bringing out the deep sadness in this work. I found it interesting that she did not "fear" discussing slides while playing some sections. Even hearing the main theme brings tears to my eyes.

Playing this piece on my hi-fi at home was the first time I saw my son really react to music when he was a baby. Sure, I'd used music to soothe him before, or make him smile, but when the opening came on for this concerto, he instantly stopped what he was doing and stared at the speakers, totally entranced - he reacted with the sort of complete captivation and emotion that I do as an adult with music. He's 3 now and loves a huge variety of music (and also tells me off if I make a mistake on my cello, which is amusing!).

I am in my 40s and just started learning the cello 5 months ago (I studied piano as an undergraduate and have played electric guitar for 30 years). The first movement of the Elgar was literally the second piece I "learned" - I got the notes but captured none of the emotion. I have since started working with a teacher as the cello is too complex to teach myself to play; nonetheless this video dramatically improved how I play even the first four chords. From your exercises I am beginning to find some of the impact that great players like you impart into the introduction; it wasn't difficult to learn to play the notes but giving them any sort of feeling had eluded me until now. Your videos are invaluable to me since I am too new a cellist to work with a conservatory-level teacher, yet I need these insights as I am diving right into the core of the cello repertoire. Thank you! (I hope you make a video on the Saint-Saens concerto 1st movement!)

I know I'm late to this video but can you please make a full recording of this concerto? Only the first or second movements haha. I really enjoy your version and I'd love a longer version. Keep up the good work!

Thank you, it looks and, more importantly, sounds beautiful. I am surprised. it does not look over 340 years old. What strings do you favor and why do you like them? Thank you.

Thank you. I appreciate you sharing that with me. I recently acquired a 2nd cello (New, hand made by my Luthier; beautiful sound) & it had Spirocores and Larsens on top. They sound great. I have an oder cello by Andreas Rieger (Giusepe Fiorini's father in law), Munich, circa 1860. I'm going to change out the strings and looking for the holy grail for my older instrument. I may try the Jargers on top.

There is a Piano Reduction Score which is easier to read than a Full Score due to its compact shape.
