    thank you for the video I probably would’ve never found the drain plug without it. i’ve never had to change oil on my Forrester till now but I'm 70 years old now and the 200 mile round-trip to the dealership is getting too much for me so I’m going to do it myself. Thank you for your video. As a side note it's amazing people don't understand youtube. You have 1300 views and I'm only the 24th person to like it I just don't understand. but thank you again I appreciate it.

    That Forester has one of the easiest to get to oil filters I have seen. So many cars have them in the most impossible places. Thank for another great video and good tips, not only for the Forester but for oil change in general for people that have not done them before. Keep up the good work!

    Good video. One correction: the engine in that mdel is an FB25, not EJ25.

    I use 0w40 and ignore the manufacturer in the USA. Subaru is okay with 0w20, 5w30, and 5w40 outside of North America. 0w40 wasn't out yet when these where made and covers them all.

    Got a 2018 Forester Limited and the dipsticks blow. They show over max at only 4qts of oil. It takes 5.1qts of oil.

    How many oil filters come in a full case? And where do you buy them from?

    • @Explorer-pj1nx
      @Explorer-pj1nx  Год назад

      It depends! I buy them 6 at a time. Generally the more you buy the better the deal. You can buy them individually or in many multitudes!

      Long term exposure to oils like crankcase oil or others has been linked to scrotal cancer and skin cancers!

    Will all the oil come out if it’s not level?

    • @Explorer-pj1nx
      @Explorer-pj1nx  6 месяцев назад

      Hey Brian, so because the drain plug is situated towards the "down" end of the motor when you have it on jacks/ramps, you get the most out of the motor out that way. There really isn't any way to get it all out but that's the best way to do it besides having it on a lift.

      @@Explorer-pj1nx Thank you for the quick reply! I know my 2020 Honda civic will drain completely, I’m almost ready for my first change on my 2024 Forester. The first time I did the civic on ramps, I measured what came out and it was exactly the specified quantity.

      You'll be just fine I think, I have never had an issue and I've been changing my oil for the past 80k miles. Plus, whatever is left over will probably just get burned anyways since it is a Subaru

    How long have you been using 5w-20 on that engine? I’m in a situation where I took my car to get an oil change but instead of 0w-20 they put 5w-20. I’ve been so paranoid that it’s gonna fuck the engine up lol.

    • @Explorer-pj1nx
      @Explorer-pj1nx  5 месяцев назад +1

      So it kinda depends! For sure it's better to use 0W-20, if I said 5W-20 I misspoke. In the short term you're 100% fine, I wouldn't sweat it until your next oil change. For me, my Forester burns a bit of oil, especially when it's hotter out here in New England during the summer or I'm running it long and hard. In those situations I might use 5W-20 because it's a little thicker and seems to not burn as much as the 0W-20, but generally I use 0W-20.

      Anything from this list is okay according to Subaru outside the USA (USA is 0w20 for CAFE only)
      0w20
      5w30
      5w40
      I put in 0w40 in Canada.

    What was the crush washer for? Do I need it?

    • @Explorer-pj1nx
      @Explorer-pj1nx  Год назад +1

      YES! So the crush washer creates a seal between the drain plug and the oil pan, so that there are no leaks. The crush washers are typically made of soft metal (aluminum, copper) so that it "crushes" between the two hard metals of the drain plug & pan. You will most likely develop a leak if you do not put a crush washer in. Some people reuse the crush washer, but I generally get a new one each time.
