Taken from Rich Brown's solo bass concert performance at the beautiful 80 Gladstone in Toronto on December 15th, 2012. This piece is dedicated to the great French/Vietnamese guitarist Nguyên Lê.
Hey croclogic1, I'm using Ableton Live 8 with 2 channels running simultaneously. Channel is dry with a bit of reverb, and on channel two I have harmonizer set a 5th above along with a very long reverse reverb. Those 2 effects (on channel 2) create those synth-like sounds. Thank you.
rich brown Just discovered you through the SBL Academy. Just have to say that your music came into my life at the perfect time. I felt stagnant with mine. You asked the audience at London Bass day what images or thoughts popped into their mind when they heard you play. For me, it was a sense of renewed purpose and inspiration. Thank you for your music and may God continue to bless you. If you ever come to bassplayerlive in Los Angeles I am definitely going to watch you in person!
I was involved in a frustrating conversation over at Scott's Bass lesson channel defending Rich Brown's playing technique to some keyboard warriors, they were claiming that his string muting is poor and he has 'strings flapping about in the wind' what a waste of time talking to these people, if they would listen properly there is no doubt of this man's flawless timeless and beautiful art and playing technique
Rich Brown's playing technique doesn't need defending!!!!!! How many of these people can sub for Rich on a gig or a recording session if he wasn't available? They should contact the people on his discography who hired him to play on their recordings and ask them if they have issues with his technique!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Rich Brown is EASILY one of the most lyrical and gifted bassists on the planet and a great educator!!!! He really gets it as a bass player and soloist!!! You are a blessing and an inspiration to me personally and the entire bass community. Thank you, sir!!!
Thank you, Sofia. "Deep and Meditative" was the intended emotional state for this piece. It's called Nguyên (nu-WEN), and it is dedicated to my friend Nguyên Lê. Nguyên is a sublime musician, and this piece is all about making you feel the way I feel when I listen to him and his music.
I've seen a few videos with you now, and in every one your playing has been superb. Beautiful tone, phrasing and melodies. Pleasure listening to you sir.
This is why you're one of my favourite players on the planet right now Rich - your tone is simply stunning - not to mention your playing is a little bit good too... great
I was fortunate enough to hear Nguyen Le twice: once in Paris with Art Lande and then in Hartford CT (!) with Dhafer Yousseff. This piece is a fitting tribute. Beautiful work, Mr. Brown, thank you.
Thank you very much, Barry. Nguyên is such a class act whose heart and spirit are as deep as his incredible sound. Love that dude. Those must have been some great shows!
@@richbrownbass I had no idea who he was the first time. At a break I asked Art if he was the house band guitarist. Art thought that was hilarious, and rightly so!
I believe thats a presentation from a couple of years before, woww what a sound what a melody, you re one of the best bass player I ever heard and your humbleness and low profile gives you extra points!!!! Regards from Argentina
an amazing bassist/musician.mark my words....he will definitly go into the history books as one of the greats.he gets the thickest and richest tones from a bass that a bassist can get from an electric bass.
Mesmerizing....I saw an article on you in the Whole Note magazine and so I thought I'd come out here and see what you got. The article was spot on. Love your stuff.
I just got my brase back from Ken. He did an incredible job restoring the oil finish. Also had new knobs, frets & Glock preamp. Sounds & plays better than when I bought it almost 10 yrs ago! Looking forward to seeing you play live again in the New Year. All the best!
Thank you very much for your kind words. The bass I'm playing is a Kenneth Lawrence Unity 6-String. Ken made this bass for me in 1999, and it's still the best instrument I've ever played.
sir, i woke up this morning with an awful hangover, and a crap outlook on things.....and idk man....just something about your playing makes me feel like it'll be alright
A fantastic piece, Rich! As I said on another site... we have many mutual friends, but have never met (I'm in Niagara). I've heard your name mentioned countless times, and always with tremendous amounts of respect. Hearing a piece like this makes me understand why. Very well done, sir!
Rich, this is soooo beautiful man. I would love to get the full DVD so keep us updated and sorry I couldn't make it out to either event in person. - Adam
