Can't thank you enough Richard. Worked like a charm after I figured I needed to restart my modem after bypassing the primary router. Couldn't get putty to connect to the internet. But now all is well.
Hi Richard, Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I had a TP-Link MR3220 version 1 which unfortunately ran out of of storage space when i tried to install luci-ssl, since it had only 4MB of flash memory. I booted to failsafe mode, installed openwrt factory version for my router and was back online. So, just for other users who tried to install luci-ssl and failed, please don't lose heart and go to openwrt.org/ and download the firmware related to your router from there. Openwrt has a footprint of less than 1MB when installed completely and your router will definitely support it. Do not try to flash dd-wrt or gargoyle as they require 8MB of free space whereas this model MR3220 has only 4Mb of flash memory. Boot to failsafe mode, and flash openwrt firmware using scp command line in telnet. If you are not comfortable using command line interface, then you can download winscp for windows. It gives you an explorer like view that allows you to transfer files directly to your router's ram -- /tmp directory. After transferring the firmware to your ram, login using command line in telnet and execute the sysupgrade command to write the new firmware. see - lede-project.org/docs/user-guide/ssh-firmware-upgrade Hope this post helps someone as I spent almost six hours trying to figure out how to get out of the low memory situation.
You don't have to do all that anymore, now there's an easier way. Just update with US version dd-wrt firmware, then use dd-wrt webrevert firmware to revert to stock firmware.
It's a lot simpler now (04-22-20), for US users. I had most recent stock firmware (151104). Reset router to default settings with button on back. Go to dd-wrt.com, click support->other downloads->betas->2020, scroll down to and click most recent date (04-20-2020), scroll down to and click tplink_tl-wdr4300v1, click factory-to-ddwrt-us.bin and tl-wdr4300_us-webflash.bin to download firmware files from folder. Launch browser, go to 192.168.0.1, log in to router (username admin/password admin), flash factory-to-ddwrt-us.bin firmware (no Error 18005!), reset router with back button again, log in to router again, and flash tl-wdr4300_us-webflash.bin firmware. Easy peasy.
You're most welcome. I'm glad and very happy to know that I could help you. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. Subscribe, Click The Bell and stay tuned! All the best.👍😀
Hi Richard I really enjoyed your work , congratulation. I have a WR 1043 ND, I followed precisely your steps, but it does not accept the lede-17.01.0-r3205-59508e3-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin. Any idea?

Hi thx for this help, you save me a lot of time. In last etap you must install "opkg install luci". SSL verision in my case didn't work, and instalation gui is more quick.
Thank you Richard Great well explained step by step video!, I tried to do this in my TL-MR3220 and in the steps: when opening putty, accessing as root (ok) opkg update (ok), opkg install luci-ssl, it start downloading some files, then it says configuring, and gives me an out of space error as following: Configuring luci-lib-jsonc. Configuring uhttpd-mod-ubus. Collected errors: * verify_pkg_installable: Only have 44kb available on filesystem /overlay, pkg luci-base needs 121 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package luci-ssl. * opkg_conf_write_status_files: Couldn't close //usr/lib/opkg/status: No space left on device. cant go on, is there any chance of installing dd-wrt from putty before using the graphic interface? or maybe deleting some files after opkg update to have enough space for installing? or any other solution you could recommend? i am stuck with my router in that step. Thanks in advance for your kindly help.

hi i need help.trying to flash it from locked firmware to Russin ver.of fiimware. wdr4300v1. after trying to reach it from browser, i saw lucis login window, klicked enter and then get -- /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:247: /etc/config/luci seems to be corrupt, unable to find section 'main' stack traceback: [C]: in function 'assert' /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:247: in function 'dispatch' /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:144: in function
I flashed my wdr4300 using ddwrt 29519 "us" and everything is good except sometimes the 5ghz signal disappears and I have to reboot the router to get it back. Also, the 5ghz light does not work on the front of the router. Do you know of any newer build that fixes this?
I am not sure if it will fix it but but I am running the latest beta firmware r30880. I was having the same problem but I found going into the wireless settings > advanced settings and reducing TX Power down to 20 with the Antenna Gain to 0 helped me out. Thanks.
Thanks! I updated to the latest firmware. Do you think it's safe to always be on the latest firmware? As for the 5Ghz disappearing, I changed the channel to 60, so far so good. If it doesn't work I'll try your suggestion. Hey, do you think you could do a tutorial on setting up QoS on this router with ddwrt?
There is more risk in using the latest firmware than any other version, especially if it was just posted. You don't want to be the first one to find out that it's defective. If you wait a week or two after the release you should be safe as any major defect will be found by then. I will look into the viability of doing a QoS video as it is a complex subject and how you set it depends totally on what you are hoping to achieve but I will consider it. Thanks.
