You may not like the guy or what he says but 40+ years in engineering tells me that this is in fact a superior design to many others on the market, it's good enough for me to use some of the features in my own private lift which is in the design stage now.
With no anchoring what happens during an earthquake? We had some massive earthquakes in my city a few years ago and we had buildings move off their foundations.
Not being paid? Is that different from receiving product in trade? Kinda funny how he talks about how strong that steel pin should be, then says they center drilled the head and cross drilled it for lube port right by the head. I'm thinking the pin needs to be a larger diameter if you're going to port it for lube delivery. Pls note: At 9:02, I think that snap ring is backwards
I want to advise everyone to be careful in remembering the correct name for this product when placing the order. I was a little careless on the phone and now my backdoor is more than a little sore.
I used to install the cheaper ones and I can tell you the " Backyard Buddy" is made better and really is safer , but it's probably going to cost twice as much .
Is the backyard buddy classic also 6 inch increment for locks? My car on top has 48 inch My car bottom has 57.2 inch Ceiling height is 112 inch. Does it fit?
For all the young people out there that do not know who Sam is let me give you a little information. Sam and his friend and co-host David were the original TV show on car repairs. They actually gave you and showed you how to do a repair. they did not have episodes that were nothing but infomercials pushing some product. To show used to be called shade tree mechanic. It used to come on Saturday and Sunday mornings on the Nashville channel. The Nashville channel would also run fishing shows on how to. Eventually the Nashville channel was bought by another company they changed the name of the TV show and after that it wasn't much about the work but the product that the sponsor wanted to see used on an episode. I learned a lot from watching the original show. I was a shade tree mechanic. Back then most of my friends were all professional mechanics. And when I talked about taking my car someplace to have work done on it they would laugh at me. They would come over and show me how to do brakes engine repairs I even pulled the rear end out of my mustang all by myself. I never missed an episode of Sam's original show. They would show you tricks on getting things done quickly and the right way. After all the years of watching his show having my friends help me learn how to work on my own cars. I would buy a repair manual for every car that I had bought after being educated by my friends and TV shows. I still remember the time that on a Saturday after fishing pulling my boat back home that I blew the head gasket on my pickup truck. Once I was home and figured out there I blew my head gasket I reached for my repair manual. I told my girlfriend at the time that we had to stay in that night so I could read my book. The very next day I was out there in my driveway taking every thing apart until I got to the head and block. By that time it was dark out. Thank goodness for the dark. When I was telling my friends what had happened and what I was doing that's when they told me to have the head checked. at that time I did not understand why I should. So back then we had telephone books and if you want it to find a service you had to look it up. So I found a machine shop dropped off the head and sure enough it was cracked. Meanwhile my father wanted me to have my truck towed out of the driveway and send it to the scrap yard. He said you will never get this thing running again that you have most of the engine in plastic totes. Picked my head up from the machine shop once the new one came in and bright and early on a Saturday morning I started putting my truck back together. The next morning I had a few little things to finish up. I watched my episode of shade tree mechanic and afterwards I went out to my driveway finished up all the little things and turned the key and my truck started up immediately just like it used to. I was so excited that I woke my father up and instead of him being mad that I woke him on his only day off he told me he was proud of me for getting that done. After that whole experience there wasn't much that I would not try to fix after that. I started helping other friends that did not know how to work on their cars or did not have the tools to do so. I always remembered how proud my father was of me. That is exactly how I raised both of my sons. To show them that I am proud when they complete something. By the way I must have done something right with my sons. They are 4 years apart in age and both of them straight out of high school join the United States Marine corps. I'm sorry for leaving such a long response. I just wanted to share my experience that I have had in life and to talk about Sam who is a good man that I had the privilege of meeting at a car show a hundred years back -). I also wanted people to know that you can learn to work on your own vehicles. I actually bought my repair manual for my Harley-Davidson right after I ordered it. I knew I was going to work on it and do the maintenance myself. So after placing my order for my bike the salesman asked me if I wanted to pick up other things. I told him I wanted the repair manual the shop version. Since my bike was the next model year and would take 6 months to come they had to order the manual. When it showed up I spent the winter reading through it like someone would read a novel. After taking delivery of my bike I performed all the maintenance on it from day one and to this day continue to work on it whenever it needs to be worked on. Engines no matter what size and shape I'll have the basic principle of air spark and fire. Did the exact same thing when I bought a family boat with inboard motors. I have even learned to work on any piece of lawn equipment out there. Sam and his show and the support of my friends and my father gave me the confidence to go out there and do what needs to be done. I will definitely look into buying one of these lifts once I get some more information on dimensions and see what needs to be done to install one. Again I apologize for such a long response.
Very happy with it. The only downside is free home delivery but you are responsible to unload (weighs 1600lbs), so the other option is to have it delivered to a near freight terminal and use a tow truck to do the job it was ~ $300. www.eautotools.com/NSS-8-p/nss-8.htm
looks like a great lift, I was impressed by several videos!! However, at the end of the day, after 40 years of standing (mostly crouching) under a variety of lifts, now that I'm mostly retired ... I appreciate the comfort of seeing the ALI label ... I agree with paying for what you get and would gladly pay a little more for my home garage in retirement, as I still turn wrenches for my neighbors and friends. Long story short, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a mohawk lift for a retirement side hustle .... Just spend the couple of bucks to get your lift certified by ALI, relative to potential sales, this seems like a no-brainer ... You can't get municipal supplier contracts, county, state or federal unless you're certified ,,, so I don't understand why you wouldn't just simply consider investing in ALI certification as a win and an opportunity to sell to a much broader market?? What do I know, other than I would buy this lift today if it was certified.
Are these lifts still made in the USA? I was told the company was sold and they are now made in China. If that’s the case, does anyone still make an American made 4 post lift?
Why does this look like it was recorded in 1984? Why is it called "Backyard Buddy" when it is not even in the backyard, or anyone's backyard, and sounds more like a weedwacker than a lift?
If you look at one of these compared to a bendpak not on paper but touch it . you will see these are not for anyone who wants a serious lift that will last
No 4 post hoist I've ever used has that kind of movement in the columns that's a total lie. I would rather use an asymmetrical hoist anyway. That way I don't have to jacking up the wheels
I was a pipe and structure fitter for ten years across south Texas. 99% of the metal materials comes from Russia, India, and China. Many of the welders I worked with were from The Philippines and India. All of it conformed to ASME, ASTM, ANSI, and ISO standards. Don't talk about shit you don't know based on bias.
I agree, just look at the Chinese controlled Panama Canal, they just increased the size and ordered the steel from Italy, and had the Italians ship it and install it!
@@theonetheonlyw5483 i would certainly like to hear an educated analysis as to why you think this lift is "pure and total garbage." anyone with a modicum of understanding of physics and engineering can see that this lift employs a number of designs that are extremely well thought out and proven. that is not to say that other "premium" lifts also have safe designs. however, the locking/safety mechanism of this lift as well as the use of solid square vertical columns which make lateral movement almost impossible is a design that cannot be improved upon. believe what you want, as a matter of "physics" and "design", this lift has a number of superior operation and safety components.

These lifts are ONLY for storage, raise it up set it on locks and that's it.. Theres an air/hydraulic rolling bridge jack on most 4posts that sits and slides in between the 2 sleds you drive on, probably not included here (cheap) Do not buy this lift for the purpose of working off it, it's not made for it. This whole video is just some bullshit advertisement to scare you into buying this. Believe me this lift is ONLY for storage, is not quality, will not last through "regular use" Doubt this thing would be able to withstand the weight of Jack with a car on it anyway. formed steel hardens along the bend as you bend it(also i wish a mechanic would stop pretending to be a structural expert) making it virtually the same strength although thinner.
So you have to knock a competitor hoist to make yours look good? I think you should take this video down, re do it and re post. It probably is a good product, dosen't look it the way you are presenting it. I was just waiting for you to say 'but wait theirs more'.
I like the design very much - looks lie an excellent product. But don't please use 'foreign-made welds' as short-hand for poor welding. "Not being paid (enough)" - Sam Memmolo
Sam does not lie. He was not paid...but he did get ten Backyard Buddy's for home use if needed.
From that demonstration I would go with back yard buddy too lol
Great Lift!
not being paid--------------------right
Yeah ... that was my thought within not very long too!
And then I turned off as I don't like lies ...
He doesn't say he's not a backer...
And he didn't say he wasn't compensated just not paid.
It sure would be nice if they posted the price for the lifts on their web site, after-all, they have the prices for all the accessories.
Looks like it will get the job done 👍
Sam was one of the greats ,
Sam mentioned his site Shade Tree Mechanic, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where he and Dave are publishing their videos now?
With no anchoring what happens during an earthquake? We had some massive earthquakes in my city a few years ago and we had buildings move off their foundations.
Tempest411 it's not a problem as these kinds of lifts use a jacking beam to lift the car which is shown in the vid if you watched it all.
Not being paid? Is that different from receiving product in trade?

Could I use my Quick Jack system on top of the Backyard Buddy to lift the car off it's wheels for rotation?

Hi can you tell me where and what company offer courses about garage equipment i need to learn more about this thanks for your help.
Never got paid huh, that's hard to believe. But I like the lift.
Yeah that would be great to have except living in my neighborhood there is no room for either one of them here.
Bullshit I have one and never swings the way they show it....basically they loosened some bolts so the leg can rock.
Which one do you have?

Do you guys still sell direct?
Can it be in the backyard? or just the garage.
Thank goodness 😅 has one ☝🏻 day you has to our last week at
I can order one to ship to europe? And what wil it cost? Or there is a suplier here somewhere?
What the difference between this lift and an advantage.lift?
The runways do not have a rail to support a wheeled trolley for lifting transmissions....Advantage lifts are way ahead in features
DID they sell the company???
You didn't get paid for this video? Yeah right, like anyone believes that.
There are many ways to be compensated when you are not paid.
