I have around 10k comics and none of them are slabbed. I have little interest in grading, it always felt like a hustle and I keep my books because I like them. I bag and board and keep them in a good environment but paying 30 to 40 dollars for a grade is not something I am interested in.
I’m a fan of raw comic books as well. However, I am new to the hobby. I think I only have around 1,000 books. Are any of your books breaking down? Or do the bags and boards in a good environment protect them well?
@@doctornesneb3955, I have 10k+ books also. If rarely handled and properly stored, the comics should be fine. There are a lot of people dedicating their lives to tracking down 'raw' books and pressing/cleaning etc and sending off for grading - then flipping for a massive profit. I say good for them! It's not something I could give so much time and effort to, so it's not something I would do. But I can't knock people who do. I've got 15k comics and selling them off cheap just to clear my house! If someone makes a profit on them or just reads and enjoys them it's all good.
My oldest comic book is about a yr old. My entire collection from childhood on was stolen in a breaking and entering of my storage unit and I lost everything. Killed the hobby for me for a long time until last yr when I picked up a Dr doom cover of FF. I had the bug again immediately and now I have a small collection I'm working on but nothing worth what I once had unfortunately
Yellow label books are not the most desired. Blue label books are the most desired. Signature series books have there place but most collectors want high grade blue label examples.... For example a Ultimate Fallout #4 Djurdjevic variant signature series 9.8 sold for 10,000.00 less then a blue label 9.8 example during the same auction at Heritage's Premiere Auction. Many collectors look at signatures on comics as defacing the book.
I was given a copy of Avengers #66 (July 1969)when I was 6 from my groovy 1st grade teacher (I’d won some sort of best behavior contest) I kept that sucker flat and out of direct (or any) light it wasn’t till 5-6 years later that it was first bagged it and another 10 years before I boarded it. Around 8 years ago I decided (considering I had reader copies a digital copy and a hardcover with that issue) to slab it. The book came back a 9.0 with white/ off white pages! Proof positive that I was one of THE finickiest kids alive… and part of me still is! Oh and I freaking love Gene Colan’s art on Iron-Man (I’ve a 7.0 slabbed) The Avengers, Daredevil, Howard The Duck I’ve only recently discovered his Batman work which varies depending on who was inking it
As a 40 year old i have an Amazing Spider-Man 42 folded open to the “Face it Tiger you hit the jackpot” page and hanging on my wall. One of my 2 slabbed books is Amazing Spider-Man 39 because i wanted to display it on my desk as my favourite comic, cover and GG is my favourite villain
Bro haha I found a ASM 323 signed by The Todd Father in a book store for $14. For that book, and it being my first book I’ve shipped out to get slabbed. I felt that one needed to be in a slab. With the Todd McFarlane sig on it, it means lots to me being able to own something like that, so I wanted it kept save so decided to slab that one. I only have 2 slabbed books right now because I’m a Raw kinda guy. I love reading comics, the smell of comics, holding them and just flipping through my boxes here and there. I get the whole slabbed market, and it’s cool. But for me it’s Raw books all the way
I took 20,000 this year and invested in Comics several key issues. So far today I have made $73,458 off that $20,000 investment. And that’s better than any stock I ever invested in. My friend two years ago made 300,000 give or take a couple of thousand on investing in Comics. How does that saying go? laughing all the way to the bank.😂😂😂
This is an outstanding presentation. Hope this gets a lot more hits. Great topic and a lot of people are interested to know this stuff. That being said, what do you recommend is the better grading organization and approach to getting comics graded? Could you give your viewers a walk-through of the grading process?
I've been into comics since the 80s and I forget which was the absolute first one I got. It might have been those reprints that CVS used to sell in 3 packs featuring Marvel, DC, Epic and other comics. I got tons of Spider-Man, Batman & Superman books though, especially Spider-Man where I have every Amazing Spider-Man from 238 (Hobgoblin's 1st appearance) through somewhere in the 380s and started working my way backwards (also have #400 & a few newer ones) as well as most of the old Spectacular Spider-Man issues from #1 through somewhere in the 200s (I know I'm missing a bunch in the middle I still need to get) and Wed of Spider-Man #1 through the 110's (I think nothing missing) and some of the McFarlane 1990 Spider-Man series and other books with him & characters of the Spidey books like Venom, etc (Secret Wars I & II, The Trial of Venom Unicef book I sent away for, Deathtrap: The Vault, Spider-Man vs. Wolverine, etc). Also got some Flash, X-Men, Hulk, Masters of the Universe, Blue Beetle, Image & Valiant titles from 1993-1994 (some #1s & #0s), Quasar, Nighthawk, and many others I can't remember off the top of my head. The idea of people getting into comics because of a movie is garbage, though I believe you that it happens. Those movies all suck imo (last ones I enjoyed were in the 2000s and they were far from perfect) and to think Johnny Come Latelies show up and buy comics of a character they know nothing about is lame & pathetic. If they knew or cared about said character, they wouldn't need a movie to get them hyped to buy books on that character. Just so wrong like so many things these days. Good job on the video though. I like your style and the quality of the video, so keep up the good work. You got my subscription.

I have no desire to sell off my slabs. I don’t own many, I can literally count the amount on both my hands. That being said, I’m happy with anything that is an 8.5 or higher. I am also curious why you felt Adam Warlock was interesting in GotG3. Imo he was an ignorant, mamas boy that spent the entire movie falling down and passing out. They did him dirty. But, to each their own “they” say.
I definitely think Warlock was a little under-powered in the movie, but that’s pretty close to how he is in his very early appearances. I’m curious to see how they handle him in the future
I agree with with @Shiznaft1. I've been reading comic books for nearly 50 years. In the all the years of reading, and collecting, in the old days, if you bought from a dealer, you had to accept the pricing and grading that they gave. To now have people insisting they won't pay you guide price, because it's not been valued by CGC , is beyond ridiculous and seems to reek , scam. Another aspect is that if you wanted to grade all of your older books that could cost tons of $$$. would you even recoup the money ? I don't think so. We're having to trust in the skill of random reviews by people we're trusting know what they're doing , and randomly have to do this, to get full value ? What if the dealer I bought a classic Silver Age comic , did the best he could, charged me good price, and it's Good - , or slightly less, based on the CGC team. What if they're too nitpicky and the dealer was actually more spot on ? Then we paid one price, the allegedly professional evaluator is off, and now we have a book that has an incorrect value that we'd have sell at the incorrect price, if you want to do it the new "right way". And what happens to the Overstreet price guide ? and again, I'm going to go back and say.... what about all the decades of buying at non CGC pricing. I think the CGC thing is overblown and helping to hurt the industry. Now we're setting up multiple standards that didn't exist , and these companies are getting rich off the misinformation about this service.
agree with most of this. But, comis werent meant to last forever. and even in those tombs that people put them in, they are a paper product, which degrades, even in there. SO, sooner or later, all those people that have those comics in those tombs, they are gonna have to come out of them. ANYTHING that the grading companies offer you can do yourself. Even art that is in museums need to be taken down and worked on from time to time. If there was a way to make them last forever they probably would be using it. And if you take one of those 100 buck slabs with the 3 dollar comic in them with a 9.8 in it, break it open, and try to sell the book to someone thats right there watching you do it, do you think they are going t pay you 100 bucks or 3, Thanks, keep up the good videos:P
