- Kenyan police have fired tear gas in the capital, Nairobi, and the coastal city of Mombasa to disperse anti-government protests.
In both city centres many businesses have remained closed.
Demonstrators have also taken to the streets of other cities including Kisumu.
Human rights groups say since the protests against a controversial finance bill began two weeks ago 39 people have been killed by security forces.

Kenyans are protesting over taxes bill, but no country progresses without its citizens paying taxes. Folks need to understand that…running a government or country is expensive. Dialogue should be the solution.
No body is against paying taxes. We're talking of excessive taxing and grand corruption among government top officials starting from the president and his cabinet.
We are not against expanding the tax base , we are only against over taxing the very low income people who hardly have 3 meals in a day. I mean its like milking a cow that is starving, first deal with the people's grievances like unemployment, improving their income base and also fighting against the very corrupt people in government that swindle alot of funds to satisfy their selfish needs instead of putting those very funds in improving health care , and other social needs of the wanaichi and then you can think of expanding the tax base. These biggest economies in the world over tax their citizens but citizens don't complain because they know the tax is being put into use in developing the country and solving people's social needs, so that's what the Kenyans are fighting for. Sort out their social needs, like poverty, unemployment, fighting corruption and then you can expand the tax base.

Also, know that addressing unemployment or building solid foundation is a holistic process that is longterm, expensive, it's not a quick fit...but it should begin somewhere.
