    About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
In addition to Dude Dad©, I have been in numerous TV shows, commercials, and have regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I will also be hosting my own TV show called "Super Dad" on the new Magnolia Network / Discovery+. Heidi and the kids will also be a part of the show. I am originally from the rural community of Howard, South Dakota.

As a teacher who works the parent pick up line, I can tell you these are super accurate. There’s a few missing though: the car with the food and snacks that spill out the door, the parent who gets out in the middle of the line to buckle or unbuckle their 9 year old from the backseat, the texter who holds up the line, the honker, and my favorite: the one who brings us hot Starbucks when we’re outside on snowy or raining mornings.

That's super nice and y'all deserve it. Question, how do you bring people coffee when you don't know how they take it? Or do you just bring hot cocoa....then what if they are lactose intolerant? My son started school last year but between covid and stuff I never did get to doing this but I'd like to this year

I'm the car with the food and snacks and crumpled papers that spill out the door.
I really need to clean my car but tomorrow is Veteran's day and I intend to do the "free food" crawl all over town - which will result in more garbage spilling out of my car door.

  • @MusicalRomancegrl

I work at a school, and part of my job involves directing traffic. Here are my pros and cons for each parent type
Always late- Pro: understands the meaning of each bell Con: speeds through the parking lot like it’s the Indy 500 because they don’t want to miss last bell again.
Affirmations- Pro: genuinely loves their kid, is likely to volunteer at least one more day than the required minimum. Cons: this shtick can get a little creepy as the kids get older (also, the teacher’s lounge has a nickname for this parent-we don’t know ur name but we know you’re “that parent”).
Cyclist- Pro: usually follows the rules of the road; doesn’t hurt any kids. Also, volunteers a lot more than the other parents thanks to their generic flexible job. Cons: if their kid’s bike gets so much as a ding on it, they will report the damage to the school, and they will want to know exactly what we’re going to do about it immediately.
Impatient parent- Pro: Efficient. Car pulls up, kid gets in/out, car goes away. Con: frequently ignores speed limits and traffic directors. May curse out staff members if they are approached for breaking said rules (depends on time of day and how nice their suit is). BTW, if you do curse us out, your name has definitely been reported to our supervisors. Every time. We memorize your license plate too.
PTA- Pro: is trying to help the school. Con: Lady, if you don’t stop holding up my traffic I will yank your soul out of your body! We got cars to move and kids to unload, let’s go! Thankfully our PTA doesn’t do this, BUT chatty adults have sometimes held up traffic during pickup. Same pros and cons apply.

It’s 1:34 rn. Kid finishes at 2:25. I leave at 1:45 so I can be there 2 latest. Otherwise yes, I’m at least 2 blocks away. It’s insane. And since so many parents work from home there are more at pick up because they can leave work for a bit. Ugh.

Elementary gets out at 2:30. Middle and high school get out at 2:50. Saves congestion although I still park in the back lot to pick up the younger one and then trek back to the back lot to wait for the other 2
Totally worth it though to have a parking spot that's easily accessible

Ugh, the HS parking lot... ours had numerous exits, but we were only allowed to use ONE. My first year driving, I waited until I knew most of the HS crowd had left before I'd leave (about 10 minutes before the second round of busses lined up). It gave me the time to get comfortable driving (and I had a very old manual car - my family, thankfully, insisted I learn how to drive one lol) before I became brave enough to endure the particular h.e.double-hockey-sticks that was the parking lot when school let out.

My daughter, when she was in kindergarten and 1st grade, her school was no busses. Which meant that the parents were instructed by the school to give hugs and kisses at home, kids disembark quick and the line keeps moving. For pick ups, pull up, door open, kids get in, door shut, and move. We moved her 2nd grade, and even though we hated the commute, we missed how her old school did drop off and pick up. They even made you go around and get back into line if your kid wasn't there in a minute.
