Yours is the only Channel I go to 4 Outdoor Equipment reviews. You Sir, have honesty and integrity👍
That tent *SUCKS!!!!!!!*
instaBlaster...
Been watching these videos for days now and I never use tents or go on camping trips (my loss). They are just so well presented they're pleasant to watch. This guy should do on location history documentaries or something.
Binge watching this channel is giving me a serious case of gear envy. It's also making me realize that I should probably learn how to do my own freeze-drying.
Just bought the 2 man tactical military tent and imported it from USA to UK. Have had it out once, light rain, no problems and plenty room, great ventilation, not much condensation and very happy with the purchase and if I'm honest I'd say it's a 3 season tent, I have a heavy Gelert navajo tipitent for the winter whi h is fantastic, I have just ordered the Kelty military minus18 sleeping bag so looking forward to that.
Have used a Kelty Acadia II for 6 years and never had a leak. Easy to set up and quite comfortable. Appreciate all of your videos, Luke. S&H!!!
I appreciate all the work you and your wife do with the various items you review. I like the fact that you take time with the products and actually use them before you make a final review.
I bought the 2 man field tent a few months ago, it is a condensation machine but I love the function and looks of it! It will be go to tent for many years to come.... even though it is my only tent!!
Man, Luke, I love your utter honesty about the products you review! If you stay honest and forthright, I stay a subscriber!!
I have been using a Kelty Brush Creek tent for awhile. It's a civilian grade version of this tent. I aim one end into the wind and that vent is closed if raining, the other open except in torrential downpours. Normally didn't leak but a change in wind direction can be frustrating.
Great work, as usual.
I have the two person version of this tent. My fly can be set out further/higher so that there is good air flow even with vents closed. One person tents are a little small for my liking. The two person is just perfect for me and my 70 pound dog. Never had a problem staying dry even in really wet weather.
I just purchased the two man version of this as well. Testing it out this weekend.
@@silvergita I think you're going to like it. I hose mine down with waterproof spray every spring and it has been an excellent tent. I did replace stakes, they were kind of heavy. Still able to get in and out without groaning too much at 66!
Good review and I appreciate your honesty. I’ve got a similarly designed two person tent not made by Kelty. The main differences (aside from them picking bright yellow and red as the colors for the fly) are two vestibules and the placement of the vents further down the body of the fly. Due to the low cost of the tent I purchased I applied seam sealing and waterproofing to the fly before taking it out and haven’t had any issues with rain, condensation or locating the tent in the woods. It’s kinda hard to miss my “hotdog stand” against natural colors.
"Let's go out in horrible weather with this new gear...."
Love it!
Beautiful colours in this video
Love the different shades of green
I looked at the USA made one and it's $600! I decided to buy a LiteFighter 1 and it's awesome! Looks like a much easier set up and they also have some new slick pole sets. It's a ballistic fiber and super durable.
The editing and cinematography on this is insane! Looks amazing. Keep it up.
I appreciate the review.
Looks like a great tent, with moisture considerations.
Possibly leave the cover at home and use a light nylon tarp for cover, giving more circulation.
Thank you much for the review
In 2016 the army issued me a tent similar in design to this. We used them in romainia and they worked excellent. We had some torenchal rains that soaked everything. We used them on top of cots whitch probably what kept the condensation down. Maybe try it on a cot to provide airflow. I understand this is mainly looked at as lightweight packable tent where you wont have a cot but some people may take one for a typical camp site.
I am so grateful for your reviews you are very thorough and honest. thank you Luke for sharing.
That thing is HUGE packed!!!
That's a nice looking tent...love the color, too. Hope it doesn't turn into a wading pool. Lone Wolf Mountain looks nice and green...beautiful place.
I have used inexpensive tents with poor water proofing in the past and had the best results just buying some can's of 3M silicone spray and let dry and typically get 4-5good rain events out of the treatment before having to reapply. Luke did have some pretty decent conditions for keeping the condensation at Bay with mild temp's and wind. Definitely intresting tent option and heck of lot cheaper than my Rock 22 by North Face.
I find it very surprising that many tents don't seem to be tested under real life scenarios and conditions.
I'm in the UK and own two Robens tents, the company is now Danish but was originally founded by a German called Klaus Robens.
They have a testing centre where the tents are hosed down with a rain rig and they have a huge fan that they subject their tents to high winds. Each tent has a description of the wind speed, continuous and gust that it can handle.
I don't have any connection to this company, my point is that so many tents just can't be tested.
Thank goodness there are people like you who will go to the trouble to do tests like this so that people don't end up wasting their money and being compromised out in the field.
I’ve been watching your vids since 2013! Always great work.
The design, shape, and form look exactly like the Alps Lynx 1 person. Like the color, it's not teletubbies bright. Thanks Luke and Fam...cawwwwwwww!
Condensation is less in my backpacking tent when I stake out all the guy lines, as it seems to help with air flow under the fly.
Out of all the military tents you have reviewed which is the top 3 and why would you think so ? I am very intrigued will your thoughts would be on that. I follow you and enjoy your honest reviews. Thank you for your time and your effort doing something like this. Strength and honor
Thank you for the video!!! Have a good one and stay safe out there
The overall shape & design of this tent reminds me a lot of the Alps Mountaineering Lynx 1, this having more mesh.
At work right now so I will be watching this later on
Until then Luke have yourself a great day
The feels. I just got this during memorial week. Besides the waterproofing and condensation, if they had a hasty houch, they got a seller.
I really enjoy your tent tests and reviews. They bring a lot of information to the consumer. If you have already, I've missed it, but I'd love to see a review and test of the Hyke & Byke Zion 1-person tent. Thanks for what you and Susie do for the outdoor crowd.
I have an old Kelty Trail Dome 4 that we use for car or base camping, that I bought for $60 @ a REI yard sale 10-12 years ago. Part of their design issues come from the fly attaching clear down to the corners, just like that one does, and all of the vents being at the top of the tent. I've never had much difficulty w/condensation as my Kelty is fairly large. But airflow has always been a problem and they can get hot...If you can leave the fly off, they are awesome tents for the $$ though. There has been more than one occasion where I've had to get up and throw the fly over and attach it in the front...lol
It might not mean much but in all the years I did summer camps with my two boys (both are eagle scouts), I don't think I EVER had a tent that didn't get some form of condensation. Cabin tents with windows open didn't even make the grade. Summer, high humidity, just a sticky mess with water buildup on the inside. I always just took my little 12volt fan and let it osculate. That helped the most.
I got my Onetigris bungalow 2.0 today. I’m so excited to try it out!
Let me know what you think about it. Been waiting on Luke’s review before purchasing for myself
Cant wait for your next wet weather test! One Tigris!
You are so lucky.
I have a new hub tent which I have had for a month and have be trying to find a way enough night to test for waterproofness... The weather bureau keeps promising rain but we keep get 0.5mm rain events. I am frustrated that we just can't get a decent rain storm.
Yet another brilliant video, thanks.
At the first 10 second i feel like im watching a commercial. Great edits and shot luke!!❤️
I’ve always had good experiences with Kelty products. The look of the coyote brown tent, at $100 bucks has caught my eye. Thanks for the review. P.S. I just received my Helikon Numbat and am very happy. I now see why you wear it all the time.
I just bought the Kelty Late Start 2-Person tent. It has a very similar design and build with the exception that it doesn't have the vents and rear vesitibul. The Rain fly on my model doesn't go as far down, so I think the condensation issue shouldnt be a problem.
Thank you for all your family time you grace us with.
Really enjoy it.
With the many numerous tents you have test can you please comment on the better ones that we could still purchase... 3 and 4 season if possible.
Best always,
Mike
Thank You Luke For The Info On The ⛺️ 🙂🙂🙂
Always count on Luke for an honest review folks
I shared the video to my FB page Campers United. Looks to be a better cool weather option. Thanks Luke!
I owned a Kelty Grand Mesa 2 tent for awhile and had pretty good luck with it. It had two windows in it. I hated them. 😂
Every tent I have that does not have a full groundsheet has condensation issue due to damp air rising from the earth so I made custom groundsheets and the issue is gone .
I was following the track of TS Bertha - my late mother's name - and when I saw it was in the general area where Lonewolf Mt. is I knew you'd be out in it.
Better than wasting money on a Ozark Trail tent. Thanks Luke
Beautiful
I bought a tarp to fit over my tent the same size as the base of the tent. Keeps the water out except for maybe a drizzle in a hard rain.
Just love your videos. Greetings from Sardinia and thank you.
I'm hanging in there for the Improved Combat Shelter full review! Love to hear your thoughts after spending time with it
Looking forward to that review too.
Would love to see one
Agreed
Good 👍
Yaaassss another tent video!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah...you can't find very comfortable and luxury gears that made for a soldier, BUT as always USA made quality is superb. Also look like heavy and little bulky, not backpacking friendly:)
Thanks didn't know why it's good not have got all way down to ground. 👍
I'm just here for the rain...😴
Alabama famous for humidity! our heat is worst than even Louisianan due to our humidity. Thia state is divided by a drop in altitude just before Montgomery. our mountains are hot too.
Luke I would say with your tent knowledge you should design a tent.? I bet you have some great workable ideas. Experience is key to good product design.
How about pulling out the bottom edges out a bit and leaving them about 2" from the ground on the stake on two sides? With the bottom boat design, would that allow a better venting? Thanks for your videos.
I'm very confused about the fact, that there are so many bad tents available in the US. I'm from Germany and due to my outdoor activities, where sometimes outdoor stuff is treated very very(!) bad, I often buy very cheap tents. Like I go to a winter rally, where a tent wont last 2 years. Mainly because of thousands of people participating. So we have supermarkets that sell tents for... like 30€ ( lets say 50$) and they are always 100% waterproof. Sure there is some (or more) condensation. But I never had a tent leaking. Even in really heavy storms or huge amounts of snow. They are not the best, but I was never able to purchase a tent, that would be dangerously bad. And you' ve shown a lot here. Maybe you should show more of these "supermarket outdoor stuff".... Is Walmart the only brand in the USA? I hope you all understad my bad english language.
I agree , i was given a two person tent that was on sale for £10 ! We hit a major storm in the UK Lake district , trees limbs were breaking during the night and the site was flooded by morning , but that £10 tent was bone dry on the inside and stayed in place well !
I'm an American, who believes that "you get what you pay for!" That's the way I was raised, and that's how I shop. I also believe that if it breaks, it's worth fixing; unless the time and money cost more than what I paid for it, and what it was worth to begin with. If a one dollar fly swatter breaks, is that really worth fixing? I don't think so, but I'll keep the handle if it's metal, so that I can use it to possibly fix something else with. But that's becoming more and more rare these days, sadly!
We have a such a ridiculously large market and selection of products to choose from that brands can release some really awesome products they know will work and sell well, because of this they take chances on other designs that may or may not work or sell as well. It’s the price we pay for innovation but being an informed consumer is the best thing you could be regardless of your country of origin. If YOU make a purchase illogically who is to blame? Know what you’re looking for, know what you need, purchase accordingly.
I agree in the US you generally get what you pay for. I have never purchased a tent at Walmart or any other big box retailer only REI, EMS OR ZPacks. All of my tents have been good and have lasted a very long time.
Outstanding job brother
Is it possible to leave the fly door open maybe a foot with a overlap door setup to allow bottom air intake and still keep the crew area dry?
I believe that tent is awesome, for 90bucks you get what you pay for, great review
I interesting about the condensation. I have an Eureka Sunriver 2, looks the same as far as construction, vent etc. I did find staking the vestubles out a little further helped some, but condensation is still about the same. I'm in southern Florida so our humidity level is somewhat higher...
Nice review. I have the Kelty Salida 2 and love that tent, but better ventilation.
Strength and honor ya dude!!!
Could you test it with the vents open to see if they really let rain in? Maybe that will help with the condensation, or maybe just replace one type of moisture with another. We just don’t know until you actually test that.
Did the waterproofing come off or was it not properly waterproofed in the first place?
Another great clip. The DOD should switch to this tent and save us taxpayers a lot of money , lol .
Could you use a small battery operated fan and it help keep condensation down?
Love that spot luke
Really good review! Than you.
Do you think if you had tied out the other guy lines it might have helped with the flow of air?
Just FYI to everyone, they JUST raised the price of this tent again, it stayed at around 100 for about a month. Kelty def knows this tent will prob sell because of this video. they didnm't raise it back up to the original price, but they increased it about 50% as of yesterday. I've been following the prices of them as I bought the 2man field tent THE DAY before they dropped the price to 100, and they refused to give me the deal. So ive been salty AF about it.
Just hit the parts of the tent with no water proofing with a can of waterproofing. Stuff works great I use on my boots all the time
Condensation. Got it 👍
Personally I have Kelty backpacking tent had for 5 years or so no problem whatsoever been in some pretty bad rain just to each his own
Have you ever found a tent that fully passes muster? If so, please post some info on it as I must have missed it.
So can you use a different fly? And honestly if you ceramic coated the fly in and out it water proofs it and wicks away moisture and condensation.
Which is the best 2 person waterproof tent
Ditch the fly, use a tarp instead. Low-hang the sides for inclement weather, open them up for good weather. Problem solved.
Could you go back and instead of pulling the rain fly all the way down as you had it ( about 2inches)...... re-setup the tent and have the rain fly about 5 to 6 inches above the ground for better air circulation. It will still keep any rain from getting things wet inside.
Thank you for sharing.
During heavy rain use a tarp (or poncho) on top of the tent and open the ventilation.
Not a fan of tents that go up inner first. If you have to set up in heavy rain the inner is soaked before you get the fly on. We get lots of rain in South Wales UK, so an issue or am I missing something?
This looks EXACTLY like the Teton mountain ultra 1 tent which shares all of the same issues. I wouldn’t be surprised if this came from the same manufacturer in China. Same price point too.
Strength and Honor. Gladiator ! :D
My storm outside cover is very tacky with bees like protection on it I'd like to buy this spray to re do it .
Guess I have to find it .
I do like a single tent for easy packing. But my Eureka tent it's just a beast mode tent and very strong. My colors are blk and gold.
Very reminiscent of the Alps Mountaineering Lynx/Koda 1 tent.
I always put the ground tarp in the tent. Somtimes the water flows into the tarp and you end up swimming in a pool and the bottom of the tent ends up being wet anyways
The vents are fine where it's at. The manufacturer just need to extend the vent flaps longer to help with the condensation.
How the floor look like and the rain water flowing underneath the tent.
Nice video stay safe out there
What about on tents like that just don’t use the fly but use a big tarp , that would keep you dry plus rid the condensation
Luke... I have my doubts as you pointed out.. Can't really make up my mind on this product.. Maybe for summer time...
I thinks theres a lot of weigh outs and tradeoffs here. Weve got a double wall tent thats super durable for a low price. We're trading that for inclusion of a footprint, kind of crap ventilation, and low breathability. But if youre a military dude you wont wear this thing out your first field op and you wont lose all of your liquor money buying it. Good buy in my opinion
Hey man, you know how to live life and really great
Would a different rain fly make this a better tent? Better vents, or a more breathable fabric?
How does this compare to the NEMO ALCS?
Can you do a similar test of the EBNS (aka) IBNS with the Rainfly?
I saw your review pre-rainfly and would like a little more "professional" real world opinion and use with Rainfly(and wolverine ground sheet if you wanna pick that up too)
And this tent is very similar yet so different.
