I can definitely say, as someone who is currently owned by a Scottish Terrier, that the description is spot on. Rufus acts like most things are beneath him. He's such a little curmudgeon. I had a little girl, Maisie, who passed away last year, and I will never be the same. They're both rescues, and they absolutely stole my heart. 🤗💕

This was so interesting. I learned that the Scots like their dogs to be energetic and busy. I have always loved the Cairn. I fell in love with Toto when I was a kid. lol However, I am not sure the dogs personality would be for me. Mainly because I don't know if I could keep it fenced in. And once loose on our property, I don't know if I could get it back, until it was ready to come back. There are all kinds of critters to hunt here. I am thinking they would not get along with cats either.

The Scottish Deerhound does not exist it is a strain of Irish Wolfhound before the recreation. The recreation is an out cross made from crosses and some breeds that were made from the original wolfhounds. My family has had Scotties for nearly 50 years, I am on my own 3rd, a wheaten named Phoebe. Very special, very unique animals - difficult to train because they are strong-willed, but intensely loyal and protective of the immediate family. They are not overly demonstrative of love, but show it in subtle ways that let you know of their devotion and affection. My life is immeasurably better for all of them. BTW - As much as they bark, they will silently stalk and kill squirrels, rabbits, mice etc - we had one female Scottie who would play with the mouse (toss it up in the air) AFTER she killed it. Weird & wonderful dogs.

Collies, like most purebreds, have had arrogant people breed the individuality and life out of them for the sake of the show ring. And notice the emphasis here on "cuddly." People don't value working dogs, so they're all bred for docility.

I have two Scotties(boys) and a Cairn (girl). Scotties are great little watch dogs. The Cairn is a better hunter.

The bloodhound isn't a Scottish breed. They are bred down from the St Hubert's dog, which was a monastery in France or Belgium. Bloodhounds were brought to the UK in 1066 when William the Conqueror brought them. If anything, they are an English breed, as it was there that the breed developed the most.
And I say this as someone that thinks that the breed was perfected in the US, lol.
The Scottish connection is that they were used on the border between England and Scotland to track stolen cattle.

If you're ever thinking of getting a terrier then please consider the border terrier. They are just outstanding pets in every way and you can consider your home rodent free.

How bout the scottish cat? Mine is like a job isn't cute but is extremely intelligent and plays with slurpee straws and hides plastic eggs. He'll take shifts working our perimeter if I'm sleeping on the sidewalk. He makes people laugh and gets attention then diverts it so no one stares at me sleeping in public. I let him loose in the morning so he can prowl wherever he wants and I meet him again at night to eat and sleep. Hokus pohkis is his name but I call him human torch or cheese fry or Dave or poke. He knows how to help me with my ptsd. Poke is stolen property right now but I most certainly will be getting him back from the woman who stole him and sold him.

Neither the Border collie or Border terrier are exclusively Scottish breeds, as the names suggest they originate in the region's around the English/Scottish border and can't be described as either 'English' or 'Scottish' breeds.

Bloodhounds did NOT originate in Scotland, but in Europe. Descended from St Hubert's Hounds in France in the Middle Ages.

Some of the breeds you highlighted either aren’t Scottish (bloodhound), or are only partly Scottish, ( Border Collie and Terrier). Ironically all of the breeds mentioned very briefly at the end are Scottish.
