  • This beaut of a tractor has won prizes for its owner and i still in amazing condition - and earning its keep. Thanks to Gavin who kindly told me of this operation, and did the work! Some more to follow.

    Brings back one of my earliest childhood memories, I think I was about 4, I remember my dad baling with a 165, and him coming home covered in stoor. Sometimes we went with his tea to the field if it was nearby. He had an accident and had to leave the farm, but he always loved watching the tractors working. He had dementia latterly and his eyes used to light up when I showed him pictures of tractors, especially vintage ones. He passed away at the end of 2016, but he left us many memories.

      We had a 165 and a mf baler also but usually put on a Ford 3000 to the baler , yes great memories of the farm I was brought up on , we also had an old acrobatic turner and a yellow wuffler , never got as far as getting a haybob . Never forget the rhythmic noise of the baler , great memories!!!

    Making hay was my favourite job. From mowing, turning, rowing, baling and riding home on the top of a load to building a hideaway in the top of the hay shed. (Ah, the memories!!)

    The largest tractors we owned growing up back in the 60's and 70's was the Massey 185 and the 285. Today my son has a JD 6125R 120 hp and I got a Massey Ferguson 3070 92 hp . My son has a small 1070 John Deere about 40-45 hp . And I got a John Deere 5320 64 hp and a IMT 539 39 hp all good tractors.

    Good to see this , is this an 128 baler ? good wide pickup , can,t see for dust , but it,s timed to perfection , I have the 124 & same cooks windrower sledge , tractor is one of the best variants of the 100 series that came out of " The factory ". A mate used to drive a 188 , it ate everything threwn at it & came back for more . Happy Days .

    • @balmesh
      @balmesh  6 лет назад

      Not sure about the model - it was obscured. Agree about the 100's - had a 135 myself.

    • @phillipcleaver7063
      @phillipcleaver7063 6 лет назад

      The most popular version they ever built , they sold in their thousands , easy to drive , an engine that always started , with an almost silent tickover , until you asked it to work , then the characteristic perkins " scurrying growl " kicked in , like the prelude to a piece of rock music .
      Thanks for the quick reply & best regards .

    • @markfiges999

      Very few (and it's been a long time since I played with them) but according to Tractor data www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/006/0/4/6041-massey-ferguson-188-engine.html the 188 was heavier and also available in 4 WD, …...there is also a slight difference on engine torque

    • @patrickmartin7688
      @patrickmartin7688 3 года назад +2

      Engine the very same,the 188 is 8 inches longer in the body due to a spacer in the block, means more weight on front axle

    Nice video......but consider the waste in baling dry hay ? Racking it..baling it.....and then.......and now dragging the bales over the ground ???? What remains of the original hay..from start to finish ? Must have at least 1/4 loss of leaves and stems ! Now days...consider baling it wet......baleage. Much higher quality and very little waste ! Just saying !

    • @balmesh
      @balmesh  5 лет назад +1

      You're telling the wrong person. I only take videos. But you are wrong in this case - there is a HUGE demand for these bales among the equine community!

    • @hairymanonetwo
      @hairymanonetwo 5 лет назад

      @@balmesh Of course there is a high demand......but rather have quality....then stems for a horse to eat :) I also baled lots of hay for horses......high demand......till I switched to baleage hay.......then the horse people also switched to baleage hay.... At first I was told it would kill a horse. Until I had a lady call me and she wanted 400 round bales ( 1200 lbs per bale ) for her Persians . The vets were wrong !!

    • @balmesh
      @balmesh  5 лет назад

      Of course, the experts are usually wrong. when we kept calves we were informed that feeding them straw would kill them. Actually they fattened well on straw, for years!

    • @hairymanonetwo
      @hairymanonetwo 5 лет назад +1

      @@balmesh I was also told you cant fatten cattle on prim alfalfa hay with feed/ grain. They grow so much faster and fill out nice ! Great tasting meat !
