Joop! is way too strong and overbearing! Original Santal is well balanced, but for biggest bang for your buck and quality, you CAN'T go wrong with MontBlanc Individual!!!
I bought MB Individuel. Any time I wore it my wife and women at work would say "you've got Joop on haven't you?" No-one is ever going to ask you if you have OS on.
Mont Blanc Individuel is one of the few cases that not only is the cheaper version a better value for your dollar, but it's also a better fragrance overall. It is true that the drydown of Creed's is richer, but the opening and first hour of MBI is much better. Plus, MBI is more versatile and can be worn in the summer, whereas Creed cannot.
lol yeah, plus the Creed sprayer is the thing of legends. :) i definitely think some will like OS more, because it opens differently. and the cool bottle is really cool for collectors, as you said. thanks for commenting!
I've lurked around and watched fragrance videos on youtube for a long time and I've never subscribed to a channel. Congratulations, FrangranceBros are the first. Wonderful videos with great humor and VERY down to Earth. A lot of the 'Fragrance People' tend to want to TRY and talk over the heads of people but you guys are just great and seem so g'damn down to Earth. Thanks for the GREAT videos!!!
I dont quite get this biased view most fragrance reviewers on RUclips seem to have for anything coming out of the Creed house. If any other perfume maker tries to emulate a creed fragrance, they are reviled for producing cheap knock offs of creed's 'masterpieces'. So much that reviewers would go to any lengths to prove the knockoffs are cheap or synthetic, even if they smell absolutely similar. Take for example, Davidoff Cool Water. The much abused step brother of GIT for being such a cheapo, without any plausible reason. But when the same Creed rips off the fragrance formula of a lesser known fragrance house, reviewers will still give credit to Creed for making a better alternative. I dont get this bias. To me, Mont Blanc Individuel smells better than Original Santal and I'm not afraid to say Creed made a 'Cheapo' knockoff of the Individuel.
My rant above is more on the generalized view most reviewers have about Creed and nothing in particular to this comparo as I think you guys were fair in choosing Individuel over OS for what it is and not get influenced by the big brand name that Creed is. :)
caayotee Honestly, I don't see that view at all in the fragrance community. In my experience, and time there is a fragrance that even is hinted at that it smells like a much cheaper version of a Creed, the fragrance community goes nuts and blind buys them all over the place. That happened with Individuel, Fresco, and Insurrection Pure. Anyway, thanks for watching!
Fragrance Bros. You see, the difference in case of Individuel is that its not a cheaper version of Creed OS, but Creed OS is actually an expensive version of Individuel. :-P Thats what ticks me off about most reviews and comparisons I've seen for these two frangrances. The reviewers be like, "Damn man, this smells like Original Santal.." No Sir! Original Santal smells like Mont Blanc Individuel. P.S. **Okay now, I'll stop being a D*ck** ;-P Keep up the great work, Bros! :)
caayotee I don't think people are concerned about which came first. Their main concern is that they could get a similar scent at a fraction of the cost, so the comparison in most people's mind is "Does this smell as good as its expensive counterpart?" Which is why I think most people say MBI is a clone. I get what you're saying, but I don't think people are really thinking that way. At any rate, these are both great fragrances! :D
Want to know why people seem to be out for Creed ?. Their fragrances smells like others, but costs 5x as much and i've yet to see an explanation to why that is.
Nice series bros and the "we are the fragrancebros" just keep getting more epic every week. You two are like 5 year old boys during the opening 15 seconds of your vids, full of energy, always brings a smile to my face :)
Great video you guys. I like this series because it lets us fragrances lovers know which way we should go if we like a certain fragrances unless we are so wrapped up on having that name. You know. Again keep this series coming please.
This is a copy of what I wrote in response to another comment below... Joop is not harsh in my opinion. It's not meant to be smelled very close. I haven't smelled OS or Individuel, but about Joop....if you are light on the trigger, 1 or 2 sprays max, and you give it about 15-20 minutes to settle in and lose that horrible Cotton Candy vibe and harsh opening....It's an amazing smell! It develops nicely. I've been looking for this fragrance for 25 years. My high school teacher wore it and I didn't know what it was and I was desperately trying to sniff out many fragrances from the 80's to see if I could find it. Then one day, I caught a whiff of someone at work and I immediately asked him and he told me it was Joop! and that was about 7 months ago. And the trail that this co-worker and my high school teacher left was NOT HARSH AT ALL, it was a nice, sophisticated, meditative ,mysterious and clean scent (at least that's the vibe I get from it).. must be the sandalwood. I'm sure OS is better , deeper , more complex...... but for almost 10 times the price?? I'll stick with Joop or Individuel. If it's anything like the comparison between GIT and Cool Water, how can you justify the price? I mean if you're hard on cash, if you've got the money then fine.
Exactly! Joop is meant to be smelled through projection from the skin at a distance and not from a freshly sprayed piece of paper. Most colognes that project we’ll need time to develop and don’t smell good smashed up against one’s nose. Women love Joop and I never got complimented on OS. Also, the ambergris of any Creed product is quite evident which is why these reviewers are able to pick up the OS. OS is better made but women don’t really like it. Creed fragrances have a sophistication that women don’t really like. It impresses fragrance lovers more like myself, but sometimes I have to go with what the women like.
It's here, it's here...it is finally here!!! The much anticipated video (besides the actual MB Individuel review)! I know a bunch of other reivewers have already said the same thing, but it doesn't seem true until you guys say it. I really enjoy your shootout segments, and hope you keep 'em come'n!!
Indeed Santal and Montblanc are close...for me Santal is much more complex and not so sharp and artifical like montblanc in the beginning. No doubt Montblanc is a very cheap but good parfum...i own both and prefer santal because of its more elegant and smoother smell. (even its much more expensive)
Just picked up original santal and it smells similar to Mont Blanc but not identical, its also better quality, you can tell more natural ingredients and less alchohol, i just walked out to the grocery store and got my first compliment from a gorl on the cash register,, good stuff
I totally agree with you guys, the price tag and similarities are too close, but santal is fresher to me. MBI is deeper almost an intense version of OS and it lasts longer too which is amazing.on my skin 130-150 dollars beats 30 dollars anyday LOL...GREAT REVIEW BROS!!!!!!!!
This is exactly what I needed. Thanks, guys. You just earned another subscriber. But, let me ask you this. Would you say OS (or even Individuel for that matter) can be worm by women? and what are your experiences with the projection on both of fragrances? Many thanks in advance.
Some days ago I catched the scent trail of someone wearing Joop, and trust me, it was fantastic. Since then, I've been wearing it myself, and after the harsh opening, it difuses really well, creating a very pleasant cloud. I think it just wasn't made to be smelled closely. It happens to me also with other Joop fragrances, like Nightflight, which I think (again, after the opening) it's a work of art, synthetic yet beautiful.
Alberto Martín I totally agree with you man! If you are light on the trigger, 1 or 2 sprays max, and you give it about 15-20 minutes to settle in and lose that horrible Cotton Candy vibe and harsh opening....It's an amazing smell! It develops nicely. I know because I've been looking for this fragrance for 25 years. definitely hit up the community and see if you can buy or trade for a sample. i always advise people to try before buying, just to be safe. the two aren't similar to us, but def try MBI. we love it
I damn near made it through a 125ml bottle of Joop, back in highschool. But I just couldn't hang in there and it ended up in the trash can. I always wanted to try OS and MBI, but the Joop comparisons made me stay away. Now I want to actually give these both a try (or just go for the cheaper of the two). Great video, as always!
i'm sorry Joop doesnt work for you guys...different fragrances work for different people. ive tried on so many fragrances...from expensive ones to basic ones...and i cant help but love joop. it just works with me.
I personally haven't smelled Joop or Original Santal, so I can't really judge on those juices, but I did own a bottle of Mont Blanc's Individuale which my Dad had bought and did not like so he passed it on to me which I thought was an OK scent. It was not what I was used to wearing, very different, but still nice! I just remember that the frag smelled like chocolate I don't know why??? Anyhow, point is MB was alright, but as for the other ones I haven't smelled I think if it's similar as you say I would not buy cause it's not my type of scent!! Peace and thanks.
Great video, loved the comparison. I've been waiting for someone to do all three together. I got really different results myself though. I find Joop! and OS to be very similar and I didn't get much similarity with Individuel at all. I found it darker and muskier. Joop! is obviously cheaper and lower quality, but I find it smells really similar. Now if someone ever asks you Daver, if you've ever smelled another man's arm, you can never honestly say no lol
Joop! Homme is gross in anything over one or two sprays in the dead of freezing cold winter. It's actually surprisingly beautiful up here in CT in January in small doses, with a nice white floral/sandalwood drydown.
Great review. Interesting fact is Individuel was launched in 2003. The nose behind it was Pierre Bourdon. OS was released 2 years later by Creed. Guess who was the nose behind it? Yep, Pierre Bourdon. I call Individuel the Original Original Santal. It's a steal for what it is.
Don't know if you guys know this...Montblanc Individuel actually cane out before Original Santal. Most people think Individuel is a flanker of Original Santal.
This is not fair for Joop!. Joop! at first was distributed by Lancaster fragrances. In 2007 or so it switched to Coty as the distributor. It now smells like a chemical mess. It used to smell like a rum cured tobacco tonka bean vanilla, patchouli. It, to me, smelled nice. But the Coty formulation.. Not so.
Yesssssssss! *said while balling my hand into a fist and drawing my arm into my side* This is very exciting and I can not wait! My hubby is quite excited about this one as well. He really likes OS, but the price is too steep.
Not only did I enjoy this video, I am actually thankful for it :) For as long as Individuel is in the market, there's absolutely no way am I buying OS.
after testing them I like them both in their own way....I think the Mont is versatile but the creed has a bit extra pizzaz....i will enjoy owning them both!
I almost didnt buy this frag just based on the comparison to JOOP... Thank goodness I decided to take a chance with this. As far as JOOP goes my girlfriend said out of all 100 frags I JOOP and Ice Men by Thierry Mugler are by far the worst !
I just got OS and I was disappointed. I own Joop and Mount Blanc. OS smells just like Joop only difference is the price. 😕 Trust me you cannot tell the difference after the dry down.
You should really get a jar of coffeebeans and clean your pallet between each smell, just a thought. When im smelling different fragrances, i always "clean my nose" inbetween.
Dreez76 the coffee bean thing is a myth. Plus, what that's really supposed to do is alleviate olfactory fatigue, which doesn't happen after 2-3 fragrances
Ahh ok. I'm rather new to fragrances and have always been told that they help clean the nose so you can more easily separate scents. Just bought a bottle of Mont Blanc Individuel for 40$, will arrive in 1-3 days. I currently have Creed Santal at home and loving it, but i want to compare it with Mont Blanc. Currently a 100ml bottle on Creed Santal costs roughly 250$. Thats 5x as much for the "same scent". I will let you know once i sniff it for a bit.
Well. My bottle of Mont Blanc Individuel 75ml just arrived, i sprayed on my wrists and i can honestly not smell the differense between this 50$ fragrance and Original Santal for 250$... they are spot on the same. You'd have to have a dog-nose to smell a differense. MAYBE Mont Blanc is a tad stronger, but just a tad. I am very happy with my buy. Tomorrow i'm getting Gucci Pour Homme, really looking forward to it, then i am buying a new bottle of Lancôme Hypnôse Homme - my old one ran out. /Edit Update: I put on a spray on my wrists yesterday of MBI at 16:00 aprox, and today 24 hours afterwards, it's still very present. This Fragrance is just awesome.
Fragrance Bros. Coffee beans really don't help, but I've read somewhere that smelling your own scentless skin helps "reset" your sense of smell. Specially if you smell your arm, where there is hair. I don't know if this too is a myth, but in my experience it seemed to really work for me!
Go Daver, nicely done man, Bear Grylls!! LMAO I gotta get me a bottle of Individuel, i got Santal off you guys so it would be a safe blind buy. Damn fine shootout guys!!
yeah I agree Mont blanc is just as good.. Rofl@ marc get his red phone out. But to me that is the story of creed. They make nice fragrances, but there are much much cheaper ones that are comparable. Just got Mont Blanc Individuel for $21.75 w/free shipping on ebay yesterday...

Almost bought a bottle of Individual last night online. Still hesitant because I'm not a fan of Joop! in the least bit.

Would've loved if you and Jer would review clones vs originals nowadays man. He should make a comeback!
Stephen Wood I think you mean “duplicate”, not flanker. A flanker is a different version of a fragrance produced by the same house.
Monte Blanc indevideul came out first. The fact that Creed copied Individuel says a lot about Mont Blanc.
Joop use to smell totally different. It use to have a similar DNA as a MB
How did I miss this video?! Also, where is that shirt from?! I don't remember that one at all!!!
I had it for a while. It was a random grab bag shirt. You didn't like it. I gave it away.
Not so.
+david4god78 Yeah that's true. I remember smelling Joop years ago and I loved it. Now it's horrible.
i had the original back in college....
I know its different now, but I cant just NOT have it.
Copped a 6.7 oz for just $40.
Joop smelled like MB with out the raspberry opening. It smelled just like it. Joop was a tad bit stronger then MB tho.
They should go back to the roots.
im doing a side by side for the first time right now.......they're both great but leaning a bit toward individual right now!
we have a review of MBI, and we'd say that the performance is pretty much equal to OS! pretty amazing stuff!
Individual is fantastic alternative to OS at a 1/6 of the cost
I just purchased MBI blind on reviews... It smells too much like joop for my liking.
Guys question... About longevity and projection in between OS and I, how do they compare to each other?
Tks, great vid!
Will do. Thanks bros and I would like to put in a request for Jer to do his rendition of Yah Mo Be There.
Dude, you guys need NEED to put comic pow bang smash icons with the intro! Epic
after testing them I like them both in their own way....I think the Mont is versatile but the creed has a bit extra pizzaz....i will enjoy owning them both!
thank you! what a great compliment!
great video guys. I'm going to do a review just like this sometime soon
I almost didnt buy this frag just based on the comparison to JOOP... Thank goodness I decided to take a chance with this. As far as JOOP goes my girlfriend said out of all 100 frags I JOOP and Ice Men by Thierry Mugler are by far the worst !
Everybody has different taste and chemistry
To me Joop are the best fragrance in the market
I just got OS and I was disappointed. I own Joop and Mount Blanc. OS smells just like Joop only difference is the price. 😕 Trust me you cannot tell the difference after the dry down.
thank you! more to come. :)
You should really get a jar of coffeebeans and clean your pallet between each smell, just a thought. When im smelling different fragrances, i always "clean my nose" inbetween.
Dreez76 the coffee bean thing is a myth. Plus, what that's really supposed to do is alleviate olfactory fatigue, which doesn't happen after 2-3 fragrances

can i wear this im in highschool
thanks dude. look forward to your take. :)
Go Daver, nicely done man,
Bear Grylls!! LMAO
I gotta get me a bottle of Individuel, i got Santal off you guys so it would be a safe blind buy.
Damn fine shootout guys!!
ahhh! that explains it! thanks!
yeah I agree Mont blanc is just as good.. Rofl@ marc get his red phone out. But to me that is the story of creed. They make nice fragrances, but there are much much cheaper ones that are comparable.
