That was very interesting, seeing how it grew into a sort of sense out of chaos. I didn't think at first that those elements were going to combine well, but you made it work! You really are fearless, allowing layers to build and be covered or exposed like images shifting in a fog, never sure which will come to the forefront. I think you create because you cannot NOT create. It's beautiful to watch.
I love and adore your videos and the fact that you let us into your lives thru your journaling. I love the messiness and the whatever happens - happens approach! TFS
It is always fun watching your videos. Don't listen to those that don't appreciate it. They are ignorant and miserable. Maybe someday they will work that out by creating their own journal.
Nice to see a well used journal, busting at the seams. I think true journaling is organic. That's not to say we can't practice art skills in a journal, but each piece doesn't have to be a finished masterpiece. I enjoyed watching your organic layers evolve from just getting something started, to adding repetitive elements that already appeared as the journaling progressed. Thanks for sharing a personal spot.
I just want to take a moment to tell u that I love all ur videos. never wanna stop watching them even tough I watched them 3-4 times.....u insipre me so much I just am grateful for ur beautiful videos and inspiring words...
Jennibellie...you do amazing work and those that chose to 'dislike' are honestly not worth your time to even worry about! Spend your time on those that love you and what you do....because you are seriously talented girl!! I loved this whole process and very much appreciate you putting yourself out there for us to watch....Luv ya! Mwaaaahhh. Huggsss, Yvonne. :)
Brilliant, Jennibellie! Great fun to watch, and interesting how it all comes together at the end. Layers are definitely the thing! The doodling brings it all together, too. Love it. Shoshi
I think I've got it! No particular rules or order, but I've gleaned Jennibellie's 10 Layers of Design which I will use as prompts for myself: 1. Ephemera, 2. Background color/mood music, 3. Stamps, Stencils, Printing, Splashing - Random designy stuff, 4. Doodles, 5. Journalling, 6. Paper Shaping, 7. Light gesso/artwork, 8. Paper Edging/enhancement of physical shapes, 9. Embellishments - lines, dots, white pen, 10. Top Words, either printed or written. Again, nothing in stone, but good prompts!
Love your attitude and approach to working in your art journal. I struggle with covering ephemera that is special, as you do with your vintage papers. But I have to say the effect on your pages is awesome.
Wow--this is so inspirational. I need to practice on this more because when I do it, there is no sense of what is behind. I love the way you rub the color on with your fingers and come back in the end to add doodles and highlights with black and white. Like I said, I just need to get in there and mess around with stuff. Thanks for sharing
hi colleen, sometimes I use gesso to prep, often not, depends what I'm putting on top, and overtop usually not - glues or gels just make the pages stick together and I don't like beeswax. I have brought some spray varnish used for physical paintings and will occasionally use that on my pages. Hope that helps thanks for watching xoxo
Hi Claudia, I do use staples occasionally - check out my Loves Layers journal page on my art journaling playlist, I use staples to attach fibers on a tag, but to be honest I can just tell you the pros and cons, a video is a lot of work for just a few points lol pros - easy to use, effective, and gives extra embellishment sometimes - metal, you can get coloured staples now too, and also different sizes (and even shapes), cons, can tear paper if used to bind a journal, can rust, has a 'reverse'...
Yes it does thank you I am trying to keep trying to finish a page.I was going to buy a stamp for journalling but the though of your words use what you have so I made a stamp sizzix die I have out of fun foam it turned out really good and stamped so well
your work is inspirting, love your techiniques and how you deliver them... That in itself is a talent. Thank you for sharing your time and passion i check almost everyday to see what you are doing. ps love your sidekick...love and light to you both
hmmm acrylic is just cheap folk art type paint I believe and the crayons are caran d'ache neocolour II's ~ if you want any extra info or demos on any of the things used I have a seperate set of vids called 'Art Journal Supplies 101' where I go through all the different kinds of media available for art journals which can be found in my 'Supplies, Studios & Storage' playlist
Hi Jennibellie,I am a new subscriber as well as a new art journaler.I have to say that as a previous scrapbooker I find your videos to be not only the most helpful out of all the tutorials out there but also the most fun to watch. I love how you are eco friendly and use lots of found objects as I am trying to do the same by using materials I already have from my years of scrapbooking. Anyways loved this page and just wanted to say hi and thank you for making the videos that you do =3 -Raylani
Hi Kirsten I mainly get my art supplies online, I just look around for what places sell what best when I want something particular, very rarely do I get anything from actual stores anymore =) thanks for watching x
Amen! I'm loving cutting my own shapes at the moment too - hold a lot more interest that punched shapes and look a lot more 'arty' but certain punches have a place in my heart too & are definitley useful for quickness & ease of use I guess everything has it's worth & place, thanks for watching I appreciate it xx xoxo
thank Linda =D hmm it can be but like anything it comes with practice & then one day letting go is just not an issue anymore....you've already gone ;) thanks for watching x
Just ignore them, Jennibellie.. they must be jealous much with no life... you are beautiful and very generous, so dont waste one more second on those who seek to bring you down. xox
Love this idea of just letting go, I've done one recently that about half way though, I just let go and didn't worry about it looking 'right' To be honest, it went to a pretty dark place and it became more Art Therapy really. I'll post it as a video response if you would like to watch... its disturbing though, just to let you know! I am really enjoying art journalling, you actually got me into it! So thank you a huge bunch! Big hugs - Michelle xxx
thanks Sandie, hmmm that's only because it's speeded up I think all vids give that effect lol but in this case it certainly isn't supposed to be difficult or taxing - just do as you want thanks for watching xoxo
thank you Phoebe =) yes, all the piccy bits were with the new camera, it does take good video but I'd already filmed that page process section while waiting for the new one so I could just edit and post it asap when I got the new one to take the pics....if that makes sense to you lol
thanks angiegal71 lol I don't do my thumbs because for some reason they don't grow very long...plus I have to have contact lenses so trying to take them out with fingers that have two long nails on is not a good idea for me lol so if they do grow as i have just noticed they have answering your qu I tend to cut them anyway - I chose eyeballs over cute nails lol thanks for watching xoxo
paper to mop up = just kitchen towel or wet wipe, pages either side = whatever is around, baking paper or newspaper, it's just to protect any pages underneath so nothing particular just whatever I have
on the underside which can cause probs if you care about it showing. I'm sure there's more but honestly the best way to find out if something is worth using in your journals is to play with it yourself & see =)
I prefer the expensive ones Kathy lol but as they don't last long for my art journals I just use ones I can buy in bulk from office supply stores, they're really just to primarily get stuff stuck, it's the acrylic & all the others layers that are the permanent glue on the page =)
Love these type of videos...so inspirational! I'm ready to just put something down now. Thank you for all you do and don't mind the haters. They're just jealous. Adriann ♥
To whoever has taken to clicking the dislike button literally the second I've uploaded a new video: why never leave me a comment saying actually what's wrong? ~ or you could just make your own videos (and stop watching mine) if you dislike them so much!! PROPER feedback is v.much appreciated ;)
I don't understand why people would hit the dislike button but I do believe some idiots troll the site doing only this. I also think they probably continue when they get a reaction. Don't comment if it happens and spoil their so called thrills. On the other hand I don't even think I have a like on my few videos so I would probably be excited to get a reaction even if it was negative lol! I love your videos :)
I am just learning (not very fast) art journalling and with you talking through the process gives me some idea of what is going on.... I still haven't finished a page yet but trying to get there ,you are giving me ideas can I ask do you prep your page and do you put something over the top to protect the page Colleen
thanks :) you can though you know, only person stopping yourself doing it is...you. How about doing it on a scrap piece of paper & telling yourself youre going to throw away the page anyways? Might allow your freedom to come out =) thanks for watching x
I love your work and videos you make it look so simple and are so adventurous! Please can you tell me the make of the acrylic paints and water colour crayons thankyou very much.
Certain special items I wouldn't use to stick paint over etc (though I may use them in a page if they remained intact and unaltered) but I think sometimes you have to treat yourself and use something that is special to you ~ to me it shows your critic that this IS important, a task that should be taken seriously and for it to stop telling you you should be doing something else more 'worthwhile' and it shows your muse your nurturing her by giving her something worthy of her time & effort =D x
i took some old crayons and shaved them with a knife onto a journal page then put some wax paper on top and used my iron to melt the crayons then removed the wax paper and it made a really cool page :)
That was very interesting, seeing how it grew into a sort of sense out of chaos. I didn't think at first that those elements were going to combine well, but you made it work! Beautiful--I love watching you work, I learn something every time. And THAT, my dear, is priceless!

I really enjoyed this video! It's from so long ago, but still so much of the same techniques that people use now in art journaling, so fun to see!

Really enjoyed how you used odd bits of household peices. It reminded me I have a few toilet rolls and I used them for my dream page.
thank you Linda, glad you liked it =) x
