    • @jorgecarreras4214
      @jorgecarreras4214 7 месяцев назад

Where was the manager? The instant the woman started throwing a tantrum about paying for the toy, they should have been called. Giving the toy away for free, without manager's consent/orders, is cause for a write-up, at best. It is NOT a good way to avoid conflict, at all.
After that though? Holy hell. How ableist can you be? The co-worker shouldn't have tapped OP on the shoulder to point out Karen and her crotch-goblin mocking sign-language. Co-worker should have brought the manager up to the counter and read both those arses the riot act.
With a lovely "now, none of us WANT it to happen, but if your little brat there got run over by a car, lost his hearing due to illness, lost his sight because he was stupid enough to play with his father's bibi gun without permission, or otherwise got disabled, would you like it if people started treating him the way he's treating our worker who was made deaf by illness at his age? For the rest of his life? Like you're ENCOURAGING him to do it right now?! Let me spell it out for you. I... Unfortunately, no one teaches manners anymore. It would seem, that all the people who used to be bullied in school are now raising bully children. They have no respect at all for anyone or anything, but as these stories would tell, boundaries are the big one that they don't respect, have zero understanding of the word no and nothing resembling a sense of accountability. I used to think these stories were made up until I experienced similar situations in my own life. This person yelled at my friend who was a cashier at a big box store that has since gone out of business. I asked the guy if he felt like a really tough man yelling at a woman just trying to do her job. He asked me what business of it was mine. I told him none, but him being older than me he should have had manners but it was clearly faded along with his looks. That stopped him cold. I saw the ring on his finger. I asked him how such a brutal butthead like him somehow bag to wife. I told him he needed to apologize, pay for his things and go because he was holding up the line. When he protested I got even louder. Suddenly he was not a fan of all the attention he was receiving. And one of the managers came running and I told him what happened. Since the managers didn't want to kick him out. I told him he needed to leave or I would kick his butt. I added that he should never speak to anyone, the way he did.

They never thought the owner would have his nephew work there so he could qualify for a management role. After the first year I would have gotten to know the owner and maybe that may have saved their jobs. Because this man won't say "hey this is my nephew", because he wants his nephew to be treated like everyone else. And he definitely was, karma at it's finest.

My youngest daughter is deaf. She speaks so normal that most people don't notice. I mean who looks at someone's ears to see the hearing aids. She can hear loud noises and talking when people are close enough to her but it doesn't mean that she'll understand every word that is being said unless she can see your lips. Stories like the deaf girl at McDonald's are all to common in the deaf community. Covid mask wearing happened when she was 17. She had so many problems at stores and restaurants that she developed "deaf anxiety" which basically meant that she wouldn't go ANYWHERE without a hearing friend or family with her. Many times that was me. I can tell you story after story about how many times I had to get her attention because someone was talking to her in a store and she didn't immediately respond. The sad thing was clerks saying sorry and then just running off and not helping her or addressing me instead and just ignoring her like she was a toddler or something.

Thinking nothing of it, my coworker made the frappe with Oreos in the frappe, but she said that she wanted the Oreos on top and wouldn't take the frappes we already made with Oreos in it even after we adding extra on top. So my two managers decided to be petty and remade the frappes, but also added so much liquid sugar and caramel to them that they were practically inedible.

Well, if you're lazy and crappy, spending 100 hrs arguing and gossiping is more "worthy" of your time than doing any necessary duty or responsibility...
My exgf who have 2 kids from another guy, she basically does gossip and flirt on her laptop and phone more than do her motherly duty, like she will stock up the dishes for an entire day to wash only at night or next day. Buy mostly ready-to-eat foods and mostly cook a lazy/simple meal, like simple fried stuff or boiled stuff. She preferred wasting her time on her own joy and happiness than to do her motherly duties and responsibilities. Her excuse was there's no perfect parent/mother, which i always tell her that may be true, but there are horrible and neglectful parent/mother. I actually would be standing up for her kids more she does, specially against her own siblings who basically had brainwashed her that she is their slave and she owe her life to them. Long story short, we broke up, mostly because how horrible of a hoe woman and mother she is...

I served my time at the Golden Arches back in college. One night I volunteered to work overnight since there would have only been two of them. We only had the drive thru open, and at about 1am, a car came through with a huge order (our assumption is that it was for an entire basketball team). It was over $100, back when McDonalds was actually cheap, and there were only 3 of us there, with me being the only person in grill. Oh, and then we had another 5-6 cars after that. Everyone was at least nice and understanding, though.
Oh, another time someone ordered a McDouble with extra pickles. Policy was "normal" is 2 pickles, extra is 4, so I put 4 on there. Well, they came back saying there weren't enough pickles, asking us to remake it. I took an entire handful of pickles and put them on it. They didn't come back again.

As someone that also likes extra pickles, I made it like I would like it, completely covered, 2 layers deep. She came back a few minutes later and told the manager, in a voice that you could hear in the stockroom in back, "That was the best burger I've ever gotten here! Thank you whoever made it!" I just smiled and gave her a thumbs up. My manager came up and asked what I did, so I told her. Apparently, this lady comes in every week and orders the same thing and always complains. Now they know how to make her burger right .

I was in a bar in my home City and I was signing to some friends and having a great conversation when from behind me I hear a guy saying ‘Aw, all these poor deaf idiots that can’t hear anything how sad !’ In a really condescending tone.
I turn to him and tap him on his shoulder, ‘what does the idiot want ?’ He says to me
‘I want you to take back everything you just said’ said I
    ‘Y-you can speak ?!’
‘Yes, and I can also hear as well as sign !’ Said I
‘But but, deaf people can’t speak !’
‘I’m not deaf ! And besides, if you go deaf AFTER you learn how to speak, you CAN be deaf and speak ! Now I suggest you take your stupid self out of this bar and don’t bother coming back !’
I said all of this whilst facing my friends so that they could read my lips.
I told the bar owner what he had said and he got barred for life.
My deaf friends and even the ones who I didn’t know, all waved their hands in the air (applauding me) and slapped my back. Those who didn’t know me were amazed that I could sign especially when finding out I had learned most of what I knew from text books and the rest from deaf friends. And I garnered more friends from this incident.
I took my Level One British Sign Language course in 2002, at night school and passed with flying colours, 6 months later. I took my Level Two course the following year but had to leave through ill health and I haven’t started again because the course isn’t free any more (and I’d only taken it as a hobby).
I use my knowledge of BSL in my volunteer work

Restaurants should have a "last service" hour prior to closing time. I know it might be too much to ask, but karens have less ammunition when "closing time" does not mean "we'll serve you if you arrive 1 minute prior"

Many do - either on the door, or somewhere on the menu. The problem is, owners of places like McDonald's, etc. WANT people to come in, up to the bitter end of being open, to maximize sales. They also want the crew to start closing early, to get people off the clock as soon as possible. Obviously, there isn't a magic changeover that can occur EXACTLY at closing time - so the crew gets "squeezed" in the middle. Management knows this, and it's NOT an accident!

The root of the problem is the restaurant wanting to be open until 11, but not wanting to pay employees after 11. That's why staff tends to start closing procedures early, so they don't either get reemed out for the extra payroll time or have to work extra time for free.

I like dill pickles on chicken sandwiches. Not just one little sliver in one bite, but the whole sandwich. At one certain fast food place, I would barely get one tiny slice no matter how much extra pickles I asked for. One night, I was in the drive thru and asked for a pickle sandwich with extra chicken. "Excuse me?" I repeated it, a pickle sandwich with extra chicken. "Do you mean a chicken sandwich?"
"Nope. I want a bunch of pickles with a chicken filet in a bun."
    "Oooookay. Drive around."
Unbeknownst to me, my future boyfriend worked there and was cooking that night. A few months later, my date told me about a weird chick ordering a pickle sandwich with extra chicken, so he made it to order. I laughed and told him he's the only person that ever got my chicken sandwiches right.
It's been over 40 years, and my husband and I still laugh about it. 🥰

You can place your order, pay, and at exactly 11 we'll hand you whatever is done cooking and you will be out the door before 11:01 or we will have you trespassed. No refunds for incomplete order. Story 1 - Going to a fast-food place at closing time has its advantages - if you're willing to accept their leftovers. When I was in college, there was a chicken place right off campus where I was a regular customer. I went there one night just before closing and ordered my usual breast-and-wing box. The owner said they were out of breasts. All they had were a few things, legs, and wings. He said, "I'll make you a bargain on it." I asked what kind of bargain, and he said, "I'll let you have all this chicken plus all the taters (potato wedges) you want -- two bucks." I said, "Sold!"

I went to a McD 10 minutes before closing... jeah, stuff happens when you're drunk... at least I'm a normal human being and I ordered at the register instead of a terminal. I asked "what do you have left for today? I know I'm late and I take something that's left" the cashier had a smile on her face because she didn't expect that. I took a double cheeseburger, fries and a bottle of icetea... when you're drunk, you take anything, right?

  • @niceguy169

Story 1: Okay, part of the problem is that Staff Ending Time needs to be half an hour AFTER closing time. The grills shouldn't be off during opening hours, the coffee pots shouldn't be getting cleaned during opening hours. EVERYTHING should remain available for exactly as long as people should be allowed to order. Okay, to avoid waste they should stop pre-making things, aim to run out of food by closing, go ahead, but stuff should remain available (if it were me as a customer I'd be fine waiting an extra 5 minutes because a burger must be grilled from scratch, it isn't ready to go, as long as I get my food). All those closing duties shouldn't be required to happen during open hours, but such companies are too cheap to pay their employees to stay later, and too greedy to not allow income as long as employees are working and getting paid. Logic SHOULD prevail here. All this Karen really did wrong was showing up with 3 minutes left trying to make a huge order (ONE trio, fine, but ALL THAT?), then not accepting the very reasonable No she got. Yelling and bossing them around gets less results than pleading for helpfulness. Oh, and obviously the employee isn't able to do so, but the proper response to that "who I'm married to" illegal attempt to abuse her husband's rank should be "You DO get special treatment! For disrespecting the military like that I'm kicking your ass out and banning you!". :)
Story 3: Wow, LOTS of mistakes by OP. You never be generous to a Karen making unreasonable demands like that! If she was like "Oh, I didn't realize I had to pay for the toy, I don't think I have the cash...", a nice person struggling, then sure, free toy. But it's perfectly acceptable to stand up for the establishment, especially when the person is being a jerk: "It's a promotional item to encourage buying the meal, if you don't buy the meal then corporate policy is that you have to pay for the toy. Sorry, it's not up to me." And the slow talking, teach her some manners! Being deaf isn't a choice, it isn't the OP being unnecessarily difficult, SAY "Could you please speak normally? Speaking like that makes it more difficult to understand you" (I'd bet it wasn't just slow but exaggerated too). The drink, man, I feel like most people prefer doing it themselves, we can do it to our liking (low/no ice, filling it to the top). I know there's people who go inside just TO do the drink themselves! Why be lazy? Doing it herself would have been quicker too! Then, OP QUITTING over the misbehaviour of one idiot? That's letting her win! Ugh.
Last story: I already feel like pranks are stupid and pointless and nobody should indulge, but pranks which bleed onto others should be EXTRA off-limits! And those others are the CUSTOMERS of the business??? Messing with quality of service? Those guys were EXTRA idiots to ever think that was okay. Hide his name tag, put sticky stuff on the floor at his work station, harmless stuff that doesn't interfere with how well he can do his job, and how well he can serve the customers! Not stuff which interferes with business, that place will have low ratings/reviews thanks to these chuckleheads. They're doing a bad job by proxy.

These are the Main Reasons why I don't want to EVER work in the food industry, most especially the fast-food industry. Having to work in a work environment where you have to deal with annoying co-workers, lazy managers, and super bratty entitled customers on a daily basis, it sounds like a complete nightmare. And as someone with high functioning autism as well as having serious low self-esteem and mental health issues--there's no way I could handle it.
Plus, I feel so really sorry for OP in the 4th Story for having to deal with that ableist Karen and her son who forced OP to quit her job there, and I'm hoping that she gets a way better job somewhere else.

I have worked for McD and several other fast food or pizza places. I have a happier story for you. One pizza place I worked for, I was taking calls to take orders (this was on paper, no computers in sight). Dude calls, orders a pizza. I take the next call, put up both slips for the orders, then go back to the phone. It's been less than 5 minutes since the dude places his order, but it's him again, demanding to know where his pizza is, yelling and cussing, and claiming it's been an hour (though it's by that time been maybe 6 minutes). Dude is SO loud, most people in there can hear him. Owner heard him, came over and took the phone from me. I was certain I was in trouble, until the owner told the dude off for yelling and swearing at his (the owner's) employee, and the dude was banned and his order canceled. (Just for the record, the McD I last worked for tried very hard to take care of me because I was pregnant at that time. I would have been walking over a mile to or from work, but someone always drove me no matter how far out of the way it was. McD's have a bad reputation, but the various ones I have worked for were always very nice to all employees, even if the pay was still shit)

(but if they were already sitting and decided to order something extra after midnight they would usually not be able to order). the same thing for the drive through- at 1-2am someone goes out to close the drive through and every car who was in the drive through (about 7 cars) would still be able to order. it didn't matter if it was one cheeseburger or if they were ordering for 15 people. we would have to serve them as they came on time. we had employees who were scheduled to work for one more hour after closing in case this happens, as well as the night shift(unlike in the us, we were all working all hours and were rotating so people would work a few night shifts a month and would be able to use grill or whatever).
i kinda agree with karen in a way that she did come on time. its not some small fast food place but a really big and popular chain of fast food- they should know something like this will happen and be better prepared

Usually, there’s at least one in most areas where there are restaurants, at least where I live. Most people don’t eat that late at night, and yes, I work in fast food. At our location, we stop making chicken (I work for a KFC) after a certain time of night, usually quite a while before closing, so we can try to reduce waste. We, as employees, can get what’s left, but there might not be a lot of selection, and if customers come in right before closing, we’re not making up a fresh batch.

Honestly its my FAVORITE! people get to be silly and maliciously compliant at their job, and a customer gets EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT!

There's a story almost identical to the onion story but it's a woman wanting pickles. And she comes in crying. She says it's the first time anyone actually made her burger right and she was so thankful that the worker understood her. She felt herd and validated.

I work fast food and we must take all orders until closing time. I've even stayed open late for a bus of teenager because they called and asked. Culver's goes above and beyond.

I used to work fast food myself. If i can ever help it, i will never do it ever again. Customers are so entitled, and the very few that are nice, were never enough. I lost count on the times i was yelled at, had stuff thrown at me, robbed etc. So never ever again lol.

Hello Taco Bell employee here I make way worse orders. One time recently I made a 414 dollar order. It was huge about 35 items of food usually with orders you should use common courtesy and call the restaurant and say hey I need to place a really big order. For bacoloriate (a religious thing for graduating high school students) a couple nights ago my co workers made a 300 taco order. This is no joke. The amount of times I’ve had drug addicts come in and get lots of food then laugh while making direct eye contact with me thinking it’s funny.

On the second story: an entitled customer and a disgruntled customer are two things that are very important to make a distinction between. An entitled customer will forgo all logic, reason, and decency to get what they want. Basically scorched Earth. Disgruntled customers will be aggressive, sure. Likely come across as angry, sometimes overly so, but instead of it coming from a sense of entitlement it's frustration, and they're usually able to be reasoned with or passified if you approach them with understanding and/or humor (such is the case with this story)

Story 3: Nobody should’ve had to do that when someone like that EKM and EK did. I’m sorry it happened to you OP, nobody should bully you or anyone else (myself included because I’m autistic and ADHD) to make one quit their job. I would’ve told her that if she’s going to harass any employee (disabled or not) that she should leave and not come back.

When I worked fast food, I would have people come in all the time right before we close and we would eventually offer to serve what we have already made as upper management would be on our asses if we stayed too long past close and would cut off all orders at the closing hour. Eventually we got too many complaints from irate customers and upper management stated that we are to stay and serve customers no matter what. We were told to keep fryers on and not start cleanup until all customers are gone and none remain on drive-thru. You can imagine how that went. Next thing is upper management yelling at us for constantly staying too late past closing following their placed policies. We just can't win. At least we got paid more from it.

The best way to get the message across when you're dealing with a company that has harassment with these long-term employees is that you get a lawyer and you send a letter to corporate stating that my client almost attempted suicide because of the harassment at this place and then they need to do investigation otherwise we will be taking the court for the emotional damages that they had received at this place. Also I don't understand how they could not notice the turnover rates of the location like that would freaking make them want to make changes or do something?

McDonald's worker should sue the Karen in small claims court for a few hundred dollars, maybe even a grand. For emotional damage, anxiety, lost time etc.
    No lawyer required.
Very little for Karen to defend herself from the claims.
I'd keep suing her until I got satisfaction.

"Do I look like I work at McDonald's?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, ma'am, I should have known you don't look like you could work here. McDonald's holds itself to a higher level of class and respect. That kind of talk would never be tolerated by an employee."
