Did Kawhi get a little over $150M? In any event, I can see why after months he wouldn't want the deal without the no-trade clause. If they say they want you there and you want to be there, why not add the no-trade clause so that he feels comfortable after it took months to get to that number. That would make one feel leery at that point. And as he said, if they decided to trade him during that time, he could be somewhere getting paid less than what he could have gotten and not in LA where he wanted to be. Hence, why he would accept that deal.

  • @FacelessMoz

Tbh with how it all went down, PG’s demands were relatively understandable. Philly defo had the max on the table for him during all of this once free agency started, and I believe he wanted to stay a Clipper but also wanted some control of his career. The Clippers have heavily under performed and there’s a genuine possibility they split everything up in the next 3/4 years and players lose their opportunity to dictate their landing spots. On top of that, the blatant disrespect in January probably nailed it there and then.

I think part of his reasoning changing was just reflecting back on the season and the offers he’d been given. The Clippers notoriously signed Blake to the max and hung his jersey in the rafters just to trade him less than a year later. PG probably views himself as being in a similar situation. The org clearly favored Kawhi based on the negotiations so it was likely that George would get a lot of blame if the team continued underperforming and he’d be the one sent out the door to siberia or wherever he doesnt want to play for real. So he decided to do what was best for himself and go to the Sixers where it might not be a city he knows but the team is built to win and he gets all his money.

The Clippers had valid reasons for not re-signing PG, but they are flaming hypocrites. They understandably didn't wanna give max money to an aging, injury-prone star... but that's exactly what they did with Kawhi. Speaking of Kawhi, I think that he should get more blame than he's getting for the Kawhi-PG era failing. PG is not worth $50 million a year at this point in his career, especially not with his playoff struggles, but it's not like Kawhi is a much better option at this point. I think the Clippers extended him based on what their team COULD be WHEN he is healthy, which is ALWAYS the problem: WHEN he's healthy. I feel like he's been getting passes over the last few years due to his stoic personality and his playoff success compared to PG, but his past successes have nothing to do with right now. PG may be gone now, but their issues are still there.

Clippers didn’t want PG. They could have kept him and let Harden walk if they wanted to stay under the 2nd apron but they chose Harden because he was cheaper.
Clippers need stars to sell tickets but are looking at a “rebrand” in the next couple years. They aren’t going to tank, instead they will be a fringe playoff team and have all their contracts expire at the same time and build a new team from scratch through free agency.
It’s likely also the reason they turned down the Warriors. They didn’t want to be a 2nd apron team by matching salaries with the Warriors and probably didn’t feel like Kuminga was worth the contract he will likely be offered this next offseason.

Probably more so that them not offering him the deal same time as Kawhi shows that his place there is not secure so he wanted added security. Seems fair enough to me

Probably got wind of the Clippers shopping him to GSW and was like, "oh that's what we're doing? Ok bet."

That is untrue. GSW could only get him via a sign and trade and you can't do that without the player agreeing. After the talks broke down it was GSW that approached the Clippers and the Clippers said no because the offer was trash.

Give a player in his mid 30s who was a no show in his final two playoff games a full max? Yeah no. I like how people want to say he deserves the money because of how he played during the regular season but yet when he was a Clipper, they brought up how bad he was in 2020 during that playoff run lol.

LAC picking kawhi & James over PG is wild PG knows deep down that's the definition of insane. H/e PG asking for a no trade clause is wild too then wants to sign a longer contract if he didn't get that...Huh? Plus PG gotta stop saying "I want to be a *enter team* & I'ma bring *enter city* a championship". 😆

I'm sure there is truth to what PG said but I don't think he's an entirely reliable narrator of events. Maybe he left because he wanted the full four year max. Moreover, Embiid is less of an injury risk than Kawhi and gives Paul a better chance at winning a championship.

What happened between Jan-Jun PG found out that Clippers were looking to trade him during the all star break. So I understand why he wanted the NTC because why take less and have them ship him out with no say in the destination. Same thing they did to Blake Griffin. Keep in mind it was the same FO too

My boy PG got his bag. Wish him nothing but success in Philly. LAC let this man walk and kept Harden. Clippers are the most cursed team in NBA history
