I would expect it to be an offering himself up to help him as he may have an internal fluke or parasite. My other theory is the hierarchy of tangs as you said, may be complex. So my theory is, if he is indeed simply declining due to old age, I believe he may offering himself up to the other 2 tangs as ones that he/she respects as #2 and #3 to basically say, look, I’m not gunna be here much longer, I’m the boss and I want this reef to be left to someone that I think can run the reef when I’m gone, so one of you guys start picking at me and show that you are the dominant ones and the rest of the fish basically see me being “taken out” or “defeated” by one of you guys so that they can learn by example who the new big boss is and then I can go in peace knowing that my home will be watched over well after I’m gone. And he/she could basically be allowing more than one tang to bite em because the one who takes the opportunity and initiative to be dominant is the one he/she would want to rule the reef in the future because they are “strong” in the Atlantic Blue’s eyes. Just a theory. I’ve only been doing this for 2 decades 😁
Also the likely reason for no loss on the chromis is likely because of the anthias. Having anthias in your system simulates what chromis school with in the wild. This regulates the slaughter apparently. Hope that helps 😁
Hey Parker, Great detailed tour! Amazing system. Quick question: noticed you had blue throat triggers in the 6.5 foot system but not this one. Any particular reason? Aggression or predation? Many thanks!
Do you keep cleaner shrimp in this tank? I wonder if a pair might help clean your fish as I saw some had algae on them, and maybe even assist in keeping your blue boy free of bacteria.
autofeeder dude - small pellets, just a tiny amount, several times a day ;) Atlantic blues have always been a curious fish for me... hopefully you can get that sailfin out if you put him back in. Speaking of blennies I would put a midas blenny in to go with the anthias (I don't know if you get them for a reasonable price in Aus)
Do you think the old Stripey may have been taking the Atlantic's food? Pretty sure that's happening in my tank with my Emperor. I also see some issues with my yellow tangs when I run ozone. Particularly around the face where they lose colour. Perhaps it might be a similar issue? I keep switching between running the ozone and turning it off every few months.
The Gem is looking much better Sam! The Atlantic Blue does look to be an old fish, but I'd keep monitoring the ragged edged fins to make sure they are only due to age and not some kind of infection.
I would suspect maybe some sort of internal parasite? He does look very skinny. Maybe try soaking food in Metroplex or General Cure.. I hope he recovers! Best of luck!
Something similar happened to my 10 year old Yellow Tang and he got real skinny and couldn’t even swim straight. I started soaking food in General cure and within a few days I saw white stringy feces coming out and eventually they went away and he got his weight and color back
Hey Sam hope you’re well haven’t seen you in while I’ll have to catch you at Dave’s again soon anyhow just a couple of ideas I’m sure you know most things but don’t forget the importance of the introduction boxes that Dave is selling at the moment great idea for adding fish to your system, also never heard of that behaviour in tangs would love to find out why? And with the anthias and chromis like you said a very high metabolism I’ve never kept them before but have heard that small regular feedings are the go to keep them alive auto feeder being the best option also the big acro colonies will keep your chromis happy ,best of luck and keep up the good work from Tony
спасибо за просмотр, как всегда! Честно говоря, во фраг-танке мало что происходит, готовлюсь перенести его на свой LFS, чтобы вместо этого выставить там на обозрение
Tanks looking good mate, i would say internal parasites for Atlantic blue, i normally treat by soaking pellets in meds and target feed, make sure he gets a good dose all the fish will need it too. Hope he makes it , they are a beautiful fish. Good luck.
Hey Sam, hope your'e well mate, could the Atlantic Blue have a parasite and is asking to be cleaned? Maybe acleaner wrasse could help? but since its getting skinny, it could be internal? some form of medication might help? or might just be old age?? hope you can figure it out, can't believe how quick the Gem healed up, that was a nasty looking wound,,great vid mate, as always,,,,
Glad the Gem tang healed. That is truly weird behavior from the blue. I would definitely suggest feeding the anthias more. In my experience their aggression is usually food aggression. Honestly you do not even need to feed that much more. Besides my main large feeding I feed a cube of spiraling brine and PE canalus over 2 feedings. That keeps them and my chromis off each other's backs. I also think the canalus makes the anthias colors pop a bit. Good luck.
I'm very happy to see the Gem Tang made a full recovery . He looks perfect! I'm very curious if it was the Voogle vs it just healing on it's own. Please let us know if you need to treat another fish and what is the outcome. Could be a game changer if it really is responsible to helping fish through problems. Tank is looking AMAZING!!! Also wanted to remind you of the CoralCare schedule, no rush, just a reminder in case it slipped you mine. Thanks, Phil
You know what I do once every 5 to 6 weeks I put it tiny teaspoon of metroplex in the frozen Mysis shrimp (let it soak in well ) along with focus and a couple drops of garlic extreme. Parasites, That could be the problem with your Atlantic blue tang.
Both doing great! I thought I was about to lose the blue again recently, but pumped some food into him and he’s kicking along well again. I do suspect he is quite mature though, but not ready to kick the bucket just yet
Sam do you use Fish V? I feel like you’ve mentioned it in a previous video but I’ve seen an unbelievable improvement in the health and robustness of my fish since using it with my food. If you’re not using it, would highly recommend. May help the Atlantic?
Glad your Gem made it. What a gorgeous fish. Do you think your success with Chromis is due to all the lovely coral you have and the hiding places they create? My beginner tank has very little coral, hence the question. Thanka
Watched the 'dream reef' build from the start but haven't been able to watch all updates over the past year, but kudos to you, your display is looking absolutely superb, the coral growth and colouration is a picture.
Hi Sam, great video as always. Just wondered if you’d thought anymore about doing a “running costs” video. I’d be interested to see a monthly figure all in of what it costs energy, food, supplements and consumables wise. Keep it up!
@@ParkersReef I just think, your tank looks so good and people will naturally aspire to it, in fact I think a lot people say to themselves, one day I want a tank like that. It’s one thing to consider the equipment costs as one offs but you don’t really hear about running costs on any of the reefing channels. I also think it would be amazing to look at DIY solar and grid tie inverters to offset carbon etc.
Maybe over feed your Blue for a day with nori,,look at it’s poop. Tank looks great. I think you’re supposed to have an auto-feeder with anthias? For the aggression
I see you edited your original post so it makes a little more sense :) I'm not convinced he is going to pass just yet, would you want to be moved to hospice if you weren't on your last legs?

Many thanks! Yeah, they eventually developed a taste for my glass cardinals which I didn’t like. Shame too, gorgeous fish!

Afraid I can’t have shrimp in this tank with hawkish.
How big is your tank? Look nice😊
It’s 210x90x75cm :)

Thanks for the info, will do!
SHould get rid of that yellow light makes your videos look bad
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
Can you be more specific on which yellow light?
Atlantic Blue looks very underfed and also may be inviting other fish to clean him
Yeah he’s not eating as much as he used to but there is not any aggression.

thanks for the response! Yes, acclimation boxes are great for new fish. Cheers Tony, have a good one!
Hopefully everything works out with the Atlantic Blue Tang. Good luck my frjend. 👌💯🔥✌️

I use Blue Planet Aquari-cycline antibiotic tablets and Blue Planet Fuke and internal parasite tablets.@@ParkersReef

Love your tank bro it's amazing I've always wanted to do a salt water tank.

Still outstanding content, been watching since the very 1st build of Dream Tank. Amazing over the years watching it all grow
Thanks mate, appreciate it :)

It honestly sounds like a scary thought, but I’ll see if it is something I can somewhat accurately work out. Appreciate the suggestion :)

Beautiful tank, might need a yellow tang in there though !
Hahah never been a huge yellow tang fan, but you never know!
Maybe over feed your Blue for a day with nori,,look at it’s poop. Tank looks great. I think you’re supposed to have an auto-feeder with anthias? For the aggression
Does depend on the anthias, these ones are all meant to be fine with once a day feeding - but it certainly can’t hurt to add one!
Good luck, maybe ask a fish doctor or make a post on Humble.Fish
thank you!
god speed to you family member, and glad to see him doing great
Thank you!
What type of clownfish is that
Picasso :)
That is one of the best Gems I've ever seen. Seems to have more spots than normal.
He’s a stunner :)
It really is a beautiful tank.
Thanks so much!
I had a explosion of aphasia n my display, I put ten peppermint shrimp in and they are all gone
No good with hawk fish though :)
@@ParkersReef lol
I would live in that tank.
Lolz
rehome the blue tang let his pass in peace
Can do, but reason?
@@ParkersReef would you not want to go to hospice
I see you edited your original post so it makes a little more sense :)
I'm not convinced he is going to pass just yet, would you want to be moved to hospice if you weren't on your last legs?
Sam, your u have always had a big school of Chromis. Do you replace them when a few “disappear “ or do they coexist and behave themselves.🤙
lol, I commented before I watched far enough😂
Haha all good mate! Is a question I get often!
