Howdy, Colette! It was filmed in what is now Fox Plaza in Century City. The actual building was nearly completed (I think it was going to be used for a lot of the offices for Fox Home Video, Marketing, and various other stuff), and tI think they decided it would make a great location due to the iconic look of the exterior and the budget savings from it being property of the studio. It's incredible how iconic this movie is when Bruce Willis was the absolute last choice for the role. Dozens of 80's action stars were approached but they all turned it down for different reasons and now it's impossible to imagine anyone else. Seredipity
If you haven't seen "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" that is a MUST see. Hysterical with John Candy and Steve Martin. An absolute comedy classic that you need to watch.
Correction, it's not a 'romantic' movie. It's a Christmas movie. Strained relationships, holidays, visiting relatives, Christmas music, and even a little holiday miracle at the end, when Carl overcomes his personal mental block to save the hero and his wife.

This is the movie that made Bruce Willis a star. He had been doing a wonderful TV show called Moonlighting with Cybill Shepard - very successful. I think he left that show to make Die Hard, and of course went on to have a great movie career.
You right, a cell phone in a car was rare as phone calls were typically $0.35 cents a minute (down from $0.50 cents a minute), and phones weren't handheld quite yet. That phone that the driver "Argyle" is using is a full 3 watt cellphone, and they were hard wired into the vehicle. (There were mobile versions called bag phones, because they were carried in a bag along with the huge battery). People even didn't refer to them as cell phones (although they were called cell phones), people typically called them "car phones". And yes, you were pretty swanky and high end if you could afford those back then. (1988). Within a few years though, the 'chocolate bar' cell phones were very common, and when the masses were able to afford them, and the monthly fees for service.
@ColetteCherry Since you’re catching up on these “old” classics (LOL, I was 25 when this came out)… Fun fact for you: The blonde guy you called “Blondie” was Alexander Godunov. He had been the premier dancer in the Bolshoi Ballet. He defected from the Soviet Union in 1979, nine years before this film. He actually had a good little film career here. Some other film credits include Witness with Harrison Ford, and The Money Pit with Tom Hanks.
Thanks for watching, I think most of the other reactors I watch have already seen it over the years, and it's not Christmas without watching "Die Hard". Another Christmas time movie would be "Lethal Weapon", in the same genre, but most people would say this is the iconic Christmas movie. Another one I like, but probably not a winner with your audience would be a classic movie called "The Bishop's Wife". You might like it on your own, black and white movie, golden age of Hollywood.
The funny thing at the end when he drops Alec off the roof is that he (Alec the actor) was actually surprised since apparently he was told they'd drop him on the count of three, but instead they dropped him on one
4:33 --- The building is the "Fox Plaza" building.. Well, at least it was... I'm not sure what they call it now.. And yes, it really does have a central air shaft design that goes from basement to roof just like what you see in the movie..
26:10 "no one's died yet other than the main Japanese guy." Joe Takagi was the third man to die. The security guards at the front desk and elevators died first. Then after Takagi, John killed Karl's brother and got a machinegun, ho ho ho. Then John killed Franco and Heinrich and threw Franco out the window to get Sgt. Al Powell's attention. So if by "no one" you mean "five others" then yeah, I'd agree.
The scene where John falls down the elevator shaft was an accident. The stuntman was meant to catch the first vent but missed and caught the second. The director decided it was much cooler this way. Alan Richman was dropped early so that look of fear on his face was real.
Karl, the long haired blonde, was played by Alexander Godunov - a world famous Russian ballet dancer who defected from the USSR to America. He brought such a sense of poise and grace to all his fight scenes.

Thank u for calling Die Hard a holiday movie! Here in Sweden its considered a christmas movie kinda. its always on TV close to christmas, or sometime during december.
Fun facts: 1. This movie is actually based on the novel Nothing Lasts Forever, which is technically a sequel to the novel The Detective, which ironically was adapted into the 1968 film starring Frank Sinatra (Who's character went by the name, Joe Leland). Sinatra was actually offered to return as the character for this movie, but the studio, even Sinatra himself, thought that would be WAY TO ABSURD for a 70 year old guy to be doing action. Therefore, they decided to change the names and ages of several characters and plot points to fit with the movie. And if you read the novel, yeah.... it's certainly absurd, but shockingly has a pretty nihilistic tone. 2. At the time, the casting of Bruce Willis and the lead hero was the most controversial casting many at the time complained about. Willis was more know for being a sit-com actor in TV shows like Moonlighting, and Fox wanted a big name movie star like Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Gere, or Arnold Schwarzenegger (Who happened to collaborate already with Director John McTiernan on the movie Predator.). But McTiernan stated that he wanted someone who looked quite ordinary, since most cops don't look like muscle-bound action heroes, therefore when the action occurs, John McClane feels like a fallible protagonist (A trope which he is known for doing with films like Predator and Hunt for Red October; being more subversive with the action movie tropes. The movie even poling fun at action movies.). Because of this mixed reaction from the studio, Willis was removed from the movie posters, due to fear that the film would fail (Spoiler alert: It didn't fail.). 3. This is Alan Rickman's first movie, which he was 42 YEARS OLD, being more known for theatre. He was placed in the American Film Institute's (AFI) 50 Greatest Villains, placed at #46. Literally in between, Jack Nicolson's Joker and Tony Camonte (Scarface 1932), and viewed as better than the Bond villain Goldfinger (#49). 4. The Nakatomi Plaza is actually Fox Plaza, an actual skyscraper located in Century City, CA. It was also used for the setting in the climax of Fight Club. 5. The cinematographer happens to be Jan de Bont, who happen to direct Twister (1996) and what many called the greatest copycat film to Die Hard, SPEED (1994). Also, not a fact but am I alone too, when I say that Jeffrey Dahmer copied Andreas Wisniewski's look as Tony, or is that a coincidence?
It was filmed at Fox Plaza, so, the studio owns the building. Ironically, they charged themselves to use the building for this film. The television version has John saying, "Yippee Ki Yay, Mister Falcon"
If you think smoking in the airport is weird, I bet you'd think smoking sections on airplanes was even weirder, yet they used to exist! I remember them as my parents (like most people's parents back then) were smokers and they'd always have seats towards the rear of the plane because that's where the smoking section was. I think just about every Gen-X and early Millennial kid remembers playing with the flip-open ashtrays on the seat arms to the point where our parents would get annoyed and make us stop.
The dispatcher who didn’t take the walkie-talkie message seriously probably knew the fire alarm was a false alarm and figured someone was pranking them at that point.
When opening the safe... It's not just music. This is Ludwig Van Beethoven. An ode to joy. The official anthem of the European Union. This is a torment for me, because at the beginning of every class at the university, an ode to joy was played. As a sign to take your seats in the audience. What is remarkable is that after five years of torment, I..... could not hate Beethoven. Because it's TOO beautiful.)))
Hi Colette! I hope you had a blast watching Die Hard. This isn’t just a Christmas classic, it’s widely regarded as one of the greatest action films ever made. It’s had such a huge cultural influence even to this day. Your realization that Hans Gruber was played by Alan Rickman was so sweet and hilarious. It’s amazing to think that this was actually his first major studio role. Before this, he was a veteran London stage actor who was unknown to American audiences. He gives an absolutely iconic performance as Hans Gruber, who is still considered one of the greatest villains in cinema. Die Hard was made during the Cold War when Germany was still divided between the free west and the communist east. Far-left terrorism was a major concern in West Germany during the 1970s and 1980s. Gruber is using not only his past ties to the Volksfrei to carry out this heist, but also to mask his true intentions as he is really only interested in the money and not a political cause. Die Hard not only redefined the action hero with Bruce Willis as John McClane, it revitalized the genre. The 1980s was defined by muscle-bound action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Willis on the other hand portrayed a blue-collar everyday man who was vulnerable and fallible at times. Before this, he was best remembered for comedies and dramas such as Blind Date and ABC’s Moonlighting. Willis truly made John McClane an iconic anti-hero. Other actors who were initially considered for the role were Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Burt Reynolds, and Richard Gere. While directing Die Hard, John McTiernan used extra loud blanks that gave the guns a more realistic sound and feel when fired, but there was no protection for the actors' ears. During the filming of the “No more table” scene, Bruce Willis was firing the gun so close to his head he ended up suffering permanent hearing loss in his left ear. Also, you thought McClane changed his shirt when in reality his tank top turned brown from sweat, blood, and dirt. Thank you for your reactions Colete. If you haven’t seen them I would definitely recommend Predator, Robocop, First Blood, Commando, Escape from New York, Bloodsport, The Warriors, The Abyss (special edition), Total Recall, Speed, Demolition Man, The Fugitive, Cliffhanger, Air Force One, Starship Troopers, Blade, Gladiator, and Dredd. Take care and Merry Christmas! ❤
Die Hard is the perfect Christmas Action movie. Now watch Krampus (2015) it is the perfect Christmas horror movie and A Christmas Story (1983) the perfect Christmas comedy!!!!!!
one of my favorite movies of all time. one of the best action movies of all time. one of my late brother's and I favorite movies. we watched this classic many times
My favorite thing about Die Hard is the change in protagonist when it comes to Action genre. Before this movie, there weren't protagonists like John McClane in an action movie. He's an "every-man" kind of guy, who was dealing with a bad day. Before that, we had people like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stalone acting as the heroes who were almost "more than human". Then, Bruce WIllis plays John McClane and, all of a sudden, your average person could actually see themselves in the shoes of main character. Something the writers in Hollywood hadn't really done before. Die Hard changed an entire genre and introduced us to Alan Rickman. 10/10
Some say a Christmas movie HAS to be ABOUT the holiday. And that's fair. But if that means "Die Hard" isn't a Christmas movie; then neither is "It's a Wonderful Life". To me, if it's got Christmas music in it, a party and someone says "Merry Christmas" that's all I need. Oh and also it just happens to be one of the best action movies ever made :P

Colette, I really appreciate your positivity and cheerfulness, the world needs more bright vibes like yours 🌞 and you have a great intuition also, love how you catch so many details or pick up on things before they happen, you don't have to advertise your other reactions, I'll always seek out others that uplift and spread happiness the way you do, seeing and hearing your personality always brightens up my day :)
This is the movie that made Bruce Willis a star. He had been doing a wonderful TV show called Moonlighting with Cybill Shepard - very successful. I think he left that show to make Die Hard, and of course went on to have a great movie career.
Moonlight was winding down when Bruce worked on this.
You are correct, Hans said "Shoot the glass" because he had noticed that John was barefoot.
Two other Christmas movies I highly recommend are The Muppet Christmas Carol and Ernest Saves Christmas 🎄
The 1st Lethal Weapon is also a Christmas action movie
"I swear that looks like Snape...."
My heart. My heart. It breaks. I hurts....
He will always be Sir Alexander Dane in my heart. 😭
"By Grabthar's hammer..."
@@alanzlotkowski2695 "...what a savings." 😆
@ColetteCherry Since you’re catching up on these “old” classics (LOL, I was 25 when this came out)…
Fun fact for you: The blonde guy you called “Blondie” was Alexander Godunov. He had been the premier dancer in the Bolshoi Ballet. He defected from the Soviet Union in 1979, nine years before this film. He actually had a good little film career here. Some other film credits include Witness with Harrison Ford, and The Money Pit with Tom Hanks.
Godunov dated actress Jacqueline Bisset (The Deep) throughout the 1980s. He was found dead in 1995 at age 45 due to complications from alcoholism.
A true Christmas classic
The funny thing at the end when he drops Alec off the roof is that he (Alec the actor) was actually surprised since apparently he was told they'd drop him on the count of three, but instead they dropped him on one
4:33 --- The building is the "Fox Plaza" building.. Well, at least it was... I'm not sure what they call it now.. And yes, it really does have a central air shaft design that goes from basement to roof just like what you see in the movie..
the building used to film this movie was the FOX building in L.A. it was under construction at the time so those levels were also used for this film
Greatest Christmas movie ever! Thanks for the reaction!
26:10 "no one's died yet other than the main Japanese guy."
Joe Takagi was the third man to die.
Lol
At the end it snowed and it never snows in LA.
I finally got some time to finish enjoying this with you. This was so fun. I had a blast with you. Happy Holidays Colette 👍
The scene where John falls down the elevator shaft was an accident. The stuntman was meant to catch the first vent but missed and caught the second. The director decided it was much cooler this way.
Alan Richman was dropped early so that look of fear on his face was real.
Best X-MAS movie ever made. Happy to see you watch it!
This was Alans first ever film, and pretty much launched him into stardom, and Bruce into the action hero genre.
“Broken Glass; Bloody Feet; and Lots of Talking to Yourself.” LOL. ❤
it's not Christmas until Hans Gruber hits the ground😍
Karl, the long haired blonde, was played by Alexander Godunov - a world famous Russian ballet dancer who defected from the USSR to America. He brought such a sense of poise and grace to all his fight scenes.
42:55 The look of shock on Alan Rickman's face was genuine. Apparently, when filming the scene, they dropped him without telling him 👍
Absolutely correct
They told him that they would count to three, and then dropped him on two!
OMG! I just finished your Tropic Thunder reaction. It´s a double-feature then.
Great Reaction.......
FYI..... Die Hard 2 is also set at Christmas time..... the rest you can watch at any time.......
"When did he change his shirt?" I lol'd :)
This is Alan Rickman first movie in his entire life. Also Bonnie Bedelia (Holly) is also Macaulay Culkin's aunt.
Home Alone, which features Culkin, is a family friendly Die Hard. 😎👍
I like that Gruber's henchmen yell at him to shoot the glass in their native German tongue, but when Hans doesn't hear him at first, he repeats it in English "for the audience"
‘Shoot the glass!’
Did you notice the price of gas (74.9 cents/gal) in that early shot? Definitely dates this as an early 80's movie.

I hate it that everyone identifies Alan Rickman as snape.he's been in so many cool roles over the years,in better movies than the harry potter series
"Hey, it's Dr. Lazarus!";)
Yes Diehard is a Christmas movie!
Now you gotta watch Die Hard 2 and Die Hard with a Vengeance. Totally worth it!!
This was actually Alan Rickman's first movie
Anyone else see the gas prices at 18:48? Holy crap...77 Cents a gallon.
Interesting tidbit: The Beretta 92 pistol used by Bruce Willis in this, is the same prop used by Mel Gibson in "Lethal Weapon" a year earlier.
I swear I saw a couple actors from lethal weapon: the police psychologist and the Asian guy who tortured Riggs.
Hi Colette. Every Christmas the family gets together to watch old favorites. Die Hard ranks up there with all the Christmas Carol versions and It’s A Wonderful Life. We are blessed with two antagonists equally iintelligent and resourceful. Very rare in films today. You just love watching these two, like watching them play chess. Just in case, Merry Christmas, Colette.
Die Hard!! 😀 Early christmas present from Colette
18:48-18:54 Colette: "These LA shots one of my favorite things about the movie it's just nostalgic it's cool"
Me: "Gas was 77 cents a gallon in LA back then?!"
Hi Colette. Die Hard is one of my favorite movies. Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
You should totally watch 5th Element. Perfect follow up for die hard… and of course there is romance!!
The bear was also in Hunt For Red October. The Novel was based in St Louis, The Black guy was in Topgun and Walker Texas Ranger. the blond is Barishnikov a former ballett dancer. This was Rickman's break out role. Next three Christmas movies are Die Hard 2, Lethal Weapon, Donovan's Reef. This was pre cell phones in every hand, also wide spread civilian internet wasn't there.
NOT Baryshnikov, Alexander Godunov. A ballet star, though, like Misha.
@@i.marchand4655 My mistake, I have a hard time separating them as they both defected and became actors.
$.74 per gallon of gas. Those were the days.
Aye, where i am at now, Sweden. 1 Liter of gas is 1.57Dollars, wich is around 17.34 Swedish krones. 1 Liter is 0.2641720524 Gallons. Crazy expensive id say. My country probably have some of the highest gas prices on earth.
The computer hacker saying the famous line "the quarterback is toast" is ironic coverture he was professional football player before he got into acting.
36:56 . I do the same. Good to hear you say that "Colette. Now I know I'm not the only one 😂😉🖐
You're little gasps and "oh!'s" are quite amusing. Great reaction!
Great reaction. Thanks.
Holly: Only John can drive somebody that crazy.
Colette (imitating): Only John can drive somebody that crazy.)))
Me: Listen. She is his wife. She knows her husband better than anyone. So I wouldn't make fun of it. She's probably speaking from her own experience.)))
it was a great line!
@@ColetteCherry Yes. Because it's natural. A wife has the right to characterize her husband. From your mouth, this phrase sounds less convincing. Because I can't imagine you being a married woman. You're too young for that (maybe I'm wrong)

Did you not see the price of regular unleaded when Al leaves the AM/PM at the gas station?? .74?
Die Hard 1,2,3 Are The Best 💯, Great Reaction Sweetheart ❤ & Happy Holidays ⛄❄️
18:48 ...the price of gas in LA in 1989. lol
44:20 --- Die Hard.... Is a story about redemption... For everyone... John, Holly, Al...
Thank u for calling Die Hard a holiday movie! Here in Sweden its considered a christmas movie kinda. its always on TV close to christmas, or sometime during december.
Fun facts:
@nimblehealer199, Wasn't that just in Die Hard 2, as a reference to Esperanza?
@mitchellmelkin4078 I know it was in 2, but I believe that it also in this movie.
Yep!!! That's Die Hard a romantic Christmas movie 😂😂😂
Oh, You have watched it already. Right on. 🍿🎅
I haven’t watched this before actually
If you think smoking in the airport is weird, I bet you'd think smoking sections on airplanes was even weirder, yet they used to exist! I remember them as my parents (like most people's parents back then) were smokers and they'd always have seats towards the rear of the plane because that's where the smoking section was. I think just about every Gen-X and early Millennial kid remembers playing with the flip-open ashtrays on the seat arms to the point where our parents would get annoyed and make us stop.
Thanks for your nice reaction 👍♥️🎄
The dispatcher who didn’t take the walkie-talkie message seriously probably knew the fire alarm was a false alarm and figured someone was pranking them at that point.
the lines wasn't even that corny , they fit on the scenes perfectly. ugh, reactors
Bruce Wills in this film is a star ❤❤
Awesome coolest funniest amazing and lovely reaction every time 🎉❤😇
Lets go more Colette Cherry with the great reactions I love them❤W movie
Some say a Christmas movie HAS to be ABOUT the holiday. And that's fair. But if that means "Die Hard" isn't a Christmas movie; then neither is "It's a Wonderful Life". To me, if it's got Christmas music in it, a party and someone says "Merry Christmas" that's all I need. Oh and also it just happens to be one of the best action movies ever made :P
NOW it's Christmas!
happy holidays. this is a really great reaction to a fantastic classic movie. if you like old school action movies with bruce willis here are some good ones. hudson hawk and the last boy scout. also you might want to check out striking distance too. alan rickman is or was a cool actor too.
