Thank you sir, we'll done! You saved me $3,500! Note... if you trim those 3 studs sticking out from the firewall you can get the manifold out without messing with the motor mount. You will need to remove the valve cover. Thanks again!
You did a PHENOMINAL JOB doxumenting the removal. People think being a mechanic we know every way to remove every single thing by memory and its just not the case at all. Yea we can wing it and spend a couple extra hours doing it the best way we see fit, but almsot always theres an easier way and channels like yours are easential imo. Appreciate the effort and you trying your damnest to get the best camera angles.
Job Well done. Saved me 3k+. I did not remove the Heater hose. What I did was Tie the hose off to the side of the Hood Hinge. this allowed the hoses to be out of the way and did not get the spillage of Antifreeze. The other thing was that one of the lower bots tend to siege or get real tight halfway out. What I did was go back 3 turns and forward 4 turns add penetrating fluid until the bolt was free. Great Video. Thanks.
Excellent video shots! My mechanic replaced our Jeep Patriot exhaust manifold/Cat and it solved our pesky 420 code; however, less than 48 hrs afterward, our AC quit working. From your video it looks possible one could damage the refrigerant lines if they were tired, angry, or let something slip. I thank God for guys like you who have the patience to do this. I was told by my shop's manager that my mechanic let a lot of 4 letter words fly on this job, now i see why. I sure miss the older cars 1970s where you could access most components without dismantling 1/4 of the engine compartment to get to what you want to inspect.
I am a "shade tree" mechanic. For those of you who do not know what that means, it is this. I try to fix my own things and I AM NOT a mechanic. It refers to someone in their backyard under the shade of a tree working on their own things. So the phrase was coined for all us do it yourselfers. This video will be crucial for me as i try to replace my own converter. Thank you for making it.
Just did a 2014 yesterday at work. Basically the same way you did it. Yeah that bracket is a real pain. Nice informative video for the folks out there doing their own thing. Definitely go with an oem cat as the aftermarket ones are not precise when it comes to that clamshell heat shield lining back up with the holes.
Hey I'm back in the comments section, I have this same 2012 Jeep Patriot 2.4L 4WD. I must have an exhaust leak coming from the manifold or elsewhere because there's a thumping/tapping noise that is common with exhaust leaks. It started when I had been trying to use fuel intake cleaner but I was using the tiptronic gear speeds and revving high rpms excessively in different gears. Must've made the manifold too hot or something, ever since then I believe I got an exhaust leak. Going to have to address this soon because the tapping noise is so annoying. Thanks for the video
That looks like one heck of a job. I know somebody with the 2017 Jeep Patriot and they're asking me if I can do that. I'm not sure if I'm going to take the job or not. Great video though good job 👍
an FYI. make sure you put the manifold gasket on right side up as it can be installed either way. if incorrect it'll burn out the gasket as the ports won't line up with gasket properly
Misfire killed my converter a bit, looking at this nightmare is why I am hesitant on doing it. Will be buying a used one from the junkyard, bypassing it, just using the header and moving the converter below the jeep. Hate when they place them like this.
just did one. disconnect the three mounts and remove center crossmember that holds front mount. lower passenger side of engine. flip the manifold toward passenger side, down pipe past heater hoses and it will flip upside down. once upside down it will pass the valve cover.
Is the bracket everyone is saying cut off the one that is held on by the two small 10mm nuts, does cutting it off make installation easier having a hard time getting the bottom bolts started on the new one
Perfect timing! I just started today to replace manifold and you are correct, there is no good video showing how to do this with complete explanation. Question? Do I have to remove the engine mount? or ok to remove valve cover only? thanks for the good video
@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore am not done this jod yet but I think if you remove the heated core hose and the intake box you had enough room to maneuvering and take out with out the need to remove the valve cover
Hello, I am currently working on my 2016 Jeep Compass. I’ve gotten all bolts out besides the two at each end of the manifold itself at the bottom. They are seized on, we’ve tried heat, spray, a breaker. Any suggestions on how I could get them out? Thanks!
I cut the extra bracket that is welded on to catalytic converter off. Thinking back could have put a hose clamp strap around it welded and still connected up to the the engine
So stoked to put this video up! I’m sitting here right now working on mine, and I have a quick question. When you put the gasket on the exhaust manifold, were you able to put some sealant on it to keep it in place while you were bolting it back on, or did you need an extra set of hands. Thought I might ask that before I go any further since I’m by myself atm. Thank you
How much did you charge for this type of job my catalytic converter is bad I took it to my mechanic but if I am not wrong this car has 2 catalytic converters one by the manifold and another in the rear?
Why did you replace the catylitic converter im having a issue with a p0420 and p0139 but my downstream 02 sensor isnt giving me a reading that would tell me that its bad.
if you had remover the front anti roll mount bolt and cross member, the engine would have dropped and rotated enough to prevent you from having to remove the valve cover.
@@TheGAutomotiveAndMore Thanks I supplied a thumbs up to your video. I'm going to try cleaning the oxygen sensor. I wonder what spray or liquid cleaning you'd recommend

Keep heating them. Sometimes It takes a few heating up cycles to get them loose. Once they start moving plenty of penetrating oil. Good luck.
