More and more people are seeing this video lately, perhaps to the resurgence of monster hunter now. To make things simpler this video is outdated and I will be making a revision in the future. I played many more titles since this video dropped and I know a lot more as of late.
"The potion flex forced you to learn the attack patterns of monsters because otherwise you couldn't get the chance to heal" Or you coulda been like me and just popped into the next area for a second to heal and sharpen and eat a demonpill and armorpill and a steak and maybe an energy drink if you were bougie enough for that.
And then when you come back into the zone and the monster is attacking your palico, which is conveniently situated at the entrance which you came through.
The fact that you can have a sponsor, and advertise the banner for it for literally .2 seconds is amazing to me. Most of the real advertisement was your model drinking it. Very respectable, thank you.
yea they ARE normal in their universe. If you find them crazy, think about the palamutes in Rise that has to carry their 150+ lbs PLUS their bulky ass weapons at blazing speeds across the map AND vertically up high cliffs.

I rarely ever comment. I’ve had this account since I think 2017, and I have maybe 2 comments. 3 after this. If I had the spare change to support you and your channel, I absolutely would. In my personal opinion, JFJ is single-handedly the best channel on RUclips. Maybe in two years I could figure out something.
JFJ, I want you to know that I am so very happy you were sponsored. Cause I am gonna buy the shit outta gamersups to support you. You have been and always will be my favorite youtuber. With that being said, gamersupps is ACTUALLY good and I enjoy it greatly, been wanting an excuse to get a better flavor than the one I have.
Just wanna double check on the sponsor code real fast. Thats for all purchases, right? Cause I see that they have a shaker coming out in a few days and if that helps you get your own shaker/flavor I might hold off and buy it.
Hey does your RUclips name jfj perhaps stand for jumping for joy? Which is a less conmon ecpression for lol. Just kind of curious. Also monster freedom unite is my first ever monster hunter I ever played as a kid. And monster hunter rise is my favorite! I’m so sad the mobile version for monster hunter freedom unite is not being updated anymore thus It actually doesn’t work on my new phone. Which sucks. I even purchased it for 14 dollars on the App Store and now it won’t even boot up because it’s not supported by the newest iOS version. So yeah just stumbled across your channel from the green hell video because I bought that game recently on switch! And so I checked out your channel and discovered that your channel plays a lot of games I am most interested in. And weirdly enough I miss the pickaxes to mine and bug nets to catch bugs. I think they saved the series by making things move faster. I understand the patience of the old games. Which a lot of people didn’t. But by expanding the series audience they allow themselves to do more with it. What the hell! Monster verse could let me play monster hunter freedom unite again!!! I adore monster hunter freedom unite but monster hunter rise is the first game of the series that my friends are also interested in. They would never buy this game from this series if it wasn’t for rise and world reaching out to wider audiences and getting them addicted to the combat and game play loop. I just wish I could’ve convinced them on the older games. Because I missed out on a lot of online gameplay in monster hunter because of crap internet and no friends wanting to play. It’s kind of what held me back from progressing in the games after freedom unite. I was very lonely as a kid. It wasn’t until high school when I actually got to play games with friends. I was always that tag along with my older brother. And now I finally have these friends back again when I’m 22. It’s honestly the greatest time I’ve had in my life in these recent months just finally playing games with friends and having a group of friends who play all manner of games I’m interested in.
It was great to watch streams with this game. Every combat with some funny stuff and moments. And most of all it's great to see that, you have such feelings for this game series Thank you for this, J
It took me two sittings but here I am I'll start off with what I loved -Your ability to give criticism while making it clear you still love the game is amazing, and I think the only youtuber I've seen that's pulled it off this well -The focus on your points while still making it sound like I'm in a conversation and not listening to a teacher in a class (like most commentary's) Is amazing, hell I say better than Mandaloregaming, and he's phenomenal at it. - It was very refreshing for someone to see the long burn of the first game as part of the gameplay loop, and not the generic "Outdated and old jank" as I feel a LOT of others would call it as And just one thing I feel like could use some work -Now the intro was a great part of the video after seeing what you exposed with "2 types of people" As a editing/creative choice it's genius, but if you want this video to not be buried by those dreaded tik tok videos, I recommend giving a speech before the intro! Something like "I'm gonna talk about this game blah blah blah" Why? Because the those who haven't seen a Sock Sight isn't going to have a single idea of what it is with such a long intro, if commentary is given shortly before, they'll look ahead most likely and skip it, or just let it play out like I did. I wouldn't be upset at all if it stayed the way it did but I do know the first 10 seconds of a video is very important I hope you have a good week J! Take a break, you've been working your butt off on this for pretty a long while now!
The part about the intro is true, I only kept watching cause I was like “there’s no way in hell this is just 45 minute long video of monster hunter clips
Jesus, that thumbnail... Anyway, Monster Hunter is trully a special series, it's gimmicky, complicated and quite a fair share of problems, but what they do well, they do DAMN WELL. Every monster feels memorable and special with it's own fighting style and design, that really makes you grow attached to them as the hunts go on. The combat feels very satisfying (hitting that triple charge on a charging monster 🥵) with wepons dealing visible damage with every flinch and partbreak, and dodging can be trick with an incredibly tight I-frame window really rewards skill. And the pre hunts are my favorite part, choosing which items to bring, which armor don and which weapon to wield (each of them unique on their abilities), all while figuring out a strategy based on how the creature fights if you know that, or based on what the info you bought tells you is what brings it all together for me. I've been on the hunt for 12 years now, played every MH game except for Freedom 1 and 2, 4 cause I never had a 3ds, and I 100% recommend. Even if you don't like at first, or feel overwhelmed, the game grows on you as the hunts progress and you start figuring stuff out. Later games like Rise for Nintendo Switch are perfect for beginners who can later on try out the older games on the franchise. Happy Hunting! Edit: yeah, I agreed with the thing about Rise the moment I started playing, it feels less like a hunt than older games
As a long time fan, I loved your personal telling of your journey as a hunter and sympathize with your views on the Old and New World Games. And by god did you remind me how much I loved the farm.
I always loved sock sights because content like this is always enjoyable for me because just hearing people go on about the things they're passionate about is always entertaining, and seeing vids like this one and battlefield shows just how far you've come in terms of articulating and structuring your points just makes this video one of your best yet. Great work J.
Sock sights are great because j usually acts and talks a bit crazy so hearing him be calm, concise(?), knowledgeable, and passionate about what he really likes is very refreshing(while also being one of the funniest creators) jfj is 10/10
4% technically every 20-30 something hunt i'll get it... Mate... Its been 2 months been hunting it every night when i got the chance... Not... A... Bloody... Single... Ruby...
Man I just love JFJ's method and execution of approaching a game or series to provide genuine reviews and criticism of the game as a whole in a sense that not only gets me, someone who's never really experienced any of the games, to understand them, the points he makes, the reasons he makes them, and how much the games or series means to him. I fucking love this channel
I remember being so scared of the monsters in this game that I literally spent an entire year only hunting Dromes, Congalalas and Yian-kut-kuts. I was scared shitless by anything that looked any bit menacing or big, so it was a big deal when I finally overcame my fears and smacked that Rathalos into the ground. That moment probably gave me the biggest boost in confidence in my life, ever.
You can totally mix both the classic and modern style of gameplay together and it would work. bringing back the danger, hunting and preparation aspects of the original while keeping the newer modern combat would one of the best ways for the series to continue. World tried to do this in the early game with you actively trying to track, hunt and forage for supplies but once you got anywhere near the mid game all those things you had to do became optional or were just "completed" like having to track the monsters to see them on the map. I have a feeling that the next mainline game in the series would be the game to try and bridge these two styles of games together to attempt to appease both mh players.
I wish I could agree with you, but that is kinda already Rise and I doubt they are not going back to classic and stick to improving the world 'improvements'
@@Chaoszidenrules Rise was a made by the portable team. Those were always faster paced, more colorfull and wacky. Next game will be a proper bridge, mark my words.
As someone who started with freedom unite on my shitty psp, I'm so happy that the success of the new gen have brought deserved attention back to the old generations aswell
You've got no idea how accurate this is. Also, I've enjoyed revisiting Pokke Village recently. This series has a lot of charm to it you just can't seem to find in other games. MH: Wilds is hopefully going to feed off of all this.
Bit sad that JFJ didn't cover World a bit more in-depth, even if it was only the base game he had experience with. But I have to say, as somebody who hopped on the MH train during MH4U, I liked a lot of the QoL features MH:W added and felt the scoutflies were the best tracking system the series had gotten yet. When fighting a monster the first dozen or so times, you still need to go out and actually TRACK the monster down, and you were rewarded for it. It increased your familiarity with the monster in the field guide and even let led to some incredibly helpful bonuses by helping you know when the monster could be captured on the mini-map. And when you finally reached the point where the monster was ALWAYS on the map straight from the get-go, you'd probably been hunting a good 20-30 times for some rare drop that was cutting your teeth. It allowed you to experience the joy of tracking a monster after encountering them for the first time and gradually slid you into grinding them for those low drop-rate items you needed. Meanwhile, like JFJ raises in the video - I felt Rise was a step TOO far.
What ruined scout flies for me was that you couldn't lose monsters. The moment you got a single track you knew where it was. Not what it was, but the moment you do spot it its there for the entire hunt. That and that they always cluttered the screen whenever there wasn't a fight.
@@kingofflames738 not true at all. Starting out, you had to collect at least ten tracks to get an idea of where the monster might be. The more familiar you become with the monsters the easier it is to track them, same way a dog would become more familiar with something it’s tracking the more items you have for it to sniff.
@@monsterhunter3ultimateplay527 But when you then get to playing the game for as long as you actually would, it tracks it for you. There have been many times you could assume and know where a monster could go, or be before the hunt, but you never really get much satisfaction to be proven right as you straight up watch their exact movements to a location.
@@TrueIdjiot yes, I am well aware. That is literally what I was referring to. My dog analogy still stands, and the system is in my opinion much better than in the original games where there’d be one or two possible locations a monster could be every single time you hunt it. “Ooooh I showed up in an area I knew it would be because I hunted it one time and it was there!! Such deep tracking mechanics!” Once you become familiar enough with those games you could also just watch where flying monster’s shadows are going and go in that direction on the map, making paintballs almost pointless in the only games that had them. I always have a full stack of 99 because I never use them. I don’t feel particularly rewarded by it because I’m just bypassing a game mechanic. It’s the same feeling either way in either game.
No matter where this franchise goes, it will forever stay in it's place as my most beloved series. So many great memories it's brought me over the years.
Just the feeling of dunking something so hard that it feels satisfying after hours of progression… patience is a great gift Monster Hunter taught me, and damn was it good!
I started with 3 Ultimate. I played that clunky underwater combat, and I loved it. I miss old monster hunter so much, but that also doesn't mean I don't enjoy the new ones. I just wish we could start getting a mix like when Generations Ultimate released along with World.
Honestly the lore of the world is so cool and unique i havent played a game that makes you seem as and ordinary person just doing their job helping control the ecosystem and not making you seem like a villain
As a hunter who has been playing since MH3U, I can absolutely say that everything you said in this video was spot on. Man of the older hunters enjoyed the clumsiness and jank of the old games, even the little things you mentioned like the "potion flex" and paint balls struck such a cord with me, as it does many other people as well. God bless you JFJ.
I don’t play Monster Hunter, but I can respect the grind and dedication it takes to get good and acquire the gear. A good video for me to see what it’s all about
I started with world and fell in love with the series, personally I just don't have the patience to go back and play the past installments, but I found the remnants of those systems present in world to be extremely entertaining: finding new palico equipment, grinding like crazy for good weapons and decorations, taking time from running at a monster to gather at a bonepile or mining outcrop. I was kinda disheartened in iceborne to see the steamworks gimp a lot of interesting parts of the game, but when iceborne came out I still found the game fun, but just way more focused on hunting monsters than the preparation, and for a post game expansion, that felt fine. I picked up rise as soon as it came out on PC and immediately noticed that this mindset carried over, mining took one hit to harvest a node, monster tracking is nonexistent, palamutes take the majority of the nuance of going around a map; wirebugs are fun for expanding the potential of a weapon but take away from the chunkyness of monster hunter combat. Rise by no means is a bad game, but I just don't feel that same desire to play rise, maybe its because I'm not challenging myself by trying a new weapon or doing all the optional quests, but the game really is giving me fuck all reason to not just rush to the end of it, and that makes me so damn sad.
for me Generations on the 3ds was my first MH game and I think its the perfect balance between these two styles of game it still had the old slow systems but it had some combat boosts that made it extremely fun to play. MHG was the treat I didn't know I wanted, one of my friends gave it to me as he never really got into it, and it became one of my favorite games. Talking about the Walls was an amazing idea, it wasn't until you brought them up that I noticed I encountered some. Glavenus was my first wall, I got used to one set of armor from early low rank and used it until I got here and learned the lesson of constant progression. Glavenus was too strong so i went back upgraded a bit and did some research. I kept dying to him so i looked around for a guide specific to fighting him when i learned he has a weak spot, by his foot. when he charges his big attack just stand at his feet and you won't get hit. and it took a couple attempts but it worked, I had won. now my current wall is the G rank hyper gold and silver raths... When it comes to the reason I kept coming back, its the exact same, its the monsters. The monsters make the games, if they were generic dragons/lizards i dont think the games would be as popular as they are today, adding that small amount of spice like you mentioned is what sold the games to me. genuinely if you read this comment section and see all the support, maybe pick up one of the games and give it a shot. it might be your hidden gem. Edit: like all walls the raths have fallen. now im working towards finding my next wall :)
Generations was also my first MH game! The main wall for me was Diablos in XX. I had some problems with the hip-checking fish but was more annoying than difficult.
Started with 3U, and yes. GU is actually the peak of old world MH and the transition to new World MH. Its sad that they lost the combat between the two.
I am only halfway through your video, and I have gotta applaud you for the great meta comparison of the video skip, then the hilarious sponsor bit. This was by far one of the best and most entertaining anecdotes of the MH experience ive ever watched!
Genuinely, J. Thank you for this video. You have likely introduced people to the classic generation of MH, which is an amazing thing as the size of the Old community compared to the New one is miniscule.
Yea its a real shame because the old games are fantastic in there own special way. I'll probably go back one day and finally beat monster hunter freedome unite. I never actually completed that game.
Ehhh. The old community has more impact, and is in general a majority. Yes the playerbase for World is very large, but not many of those players never got "properly" involved in the community.
As someone who played MHW as their first Monster Hunter game, I was disappointed that there was no monster tracking in Rise. I miss the tracking and I miss elemental effects that weapons gave off. It’s fun as hell to play, but graphically its a step down. I can only imagine how people who’ve been playing the earlier games feel. While I’m happy that I can move around as I heal, it would be nice to have some of the challenging aspects of the older games in the newer ones.
I just wanted to say this is one of my favorite videos out there on RUclips. Every time I watch it I can't help myself and play some MH. Thank you for this beautiful comparison on this game series and why the classic MHs are so appealing in there own way 🙂
This isn't just a video, this is a social document on monster hunter. I am so proud/happy to see that someone explained the love for this game, from it's problems, and to the big perks. I hope to see you streaming more monster hunter, and best of luck. Happy Hunting !
Thank you very much J, You showed me what I missed about the last games. I could play MH3 ultimate, 4 ultimate and generations for a lot of time, wanting to learn and get prepared, really feeling like I was a hunter getting perfectly prepared for each hunt, that was surpisingly epic. Rise and world did a lot of things good, but, the canteen, the preparation (Even with the fcking pickaxes, that I hated them) are very important to finally make the last games trully a Monster Hunter experience.
Thank you for taking the time to make this in depth video. Being a fan of the series it was hard to put into words why I would want to spend less hours in the most recent games than I used to with some of the older and clasic games. This video voices those same thoughts I had about the games as a whole and found it was really informative to those who might not understand the appeal and charm of the series as a whole. This was an amazing video and I hope I can see more in the future!
I remember watching the opening cinematic on CinemaTech way back in the day. Took me a couple of years to get my hands on the game proper but I still remember loving OG Monster Hunter, jank and all.
I love these types of videos from J, because it feels like somthing a friend would make and send to you. It feels more personal and from the heart. You da bomb Jfj, can't wait for my waifu cup to get here.
Just the comparison to freedom Unite to rise is just wow it just shows how much has been changed over the years and new stuff has been given in rise and the lack of it back then love the edits and sock sights
40:50 your criticism is the game respects your time as a player and takes the majority of the tedium and lets you get to the meat of the gameplay: the monster fights. I've played the old and new style, I like them both but if I had to choose I'd go with the new style generally. I don't want to have to spend an hour grinding supplies because I haven't spent 20 minutes of every hunt for the past 10 hunts not gathering supplies before fighting the monster.
This video is amazing, and now I’m in love with this amazing franchise. I downloaded ppsspp and mhfu and spent my first hour floundering around popos and giaprey. Now 30 hours in, I am finally getting the hang of hunting Yian kut-ku with minimal supplies, and not a full bag of expensive materials.
I am just so damn happy with how far Monster Hunter has come, both as a series and a community. From 1 to Rise, this franchise is amazing from start to finish and I hope it continues. One thing I also hope for? The Online Servers for Frontier get finished so we can fight all the lovely and INSANE monsters to fight!
Love that u did the punk duck reference. That video "How to Monster Hunter" by Punk Duck is the video I recommend all the newcomers to go watch so that they know what they're getting into and know what to expect of Mon Hun experience. Now I shall direct them to your video as well, JFJ! Thank you for making this! I love this video a lot! GG, friend!!
It feels weird watching videos of you being so chill and doing like a video essay and stuff. I like it a lot it is great, but different. Then I saw the thumbnail lol
My first wall was Daimyo Hermitaur. First High rank hunt in 4U (My first game in the series) and the first monster to ever 3cart me. I took 13 tries to beat him. And as a CB main back then, it's the fight that taught me how to use the weapons guard to its full potential. I still love those mechanical buzzsaws to this day. One of my favorite franchises in this world. Thank you for sharing your experience with it with us.
As a long time fan of the series, I come in and out of the game, usually it takes some inspiration for me to get back into it these days. I’ve been thinking about playing it again but didn’t know which one, through your video, I remembered that I also put 150+ hours into mh4u on the 3ds and made the quick snap to MHGU, through this, I’ve bought a switch and am now really excited to get back into a series that’s gotten me through so much bs in my life, thank you J, you have really spawned my love for the series again. ❤
JFJ is the only person I would 100% trust when it came to what they thought about a game. He'd list the flaws, the benefits, and even would give in-depth look into things that anybody 'sponsored' would never consider. JFF, you're not my favorite youtuber. But my god you're fuckin' up there. And I know I can say that for most of the people who are subbed to you.
God I’ve watched this video a few times now just because if their is one thing I love more than this series, it’s other people openly enjoying it too. I’m a fourth gen hunter loud and proud, playing every game since 4u released. Been hooked on this series ever since I touched that game. Even going back and playing the older games a few times. Love your work JFJ, keep it up 👍!
I never cared for World, despite sinking over a thousand hours into 4U and about half that into GU/3U respectively. However, I really really enjoyed Rise (Just in the waiting for G-Rank room now). I'm so happy Monster Hunter has finally gotten the recognition it always deserved. Edit after watching the video: I felt like the section on 'Classic vs Modern' was a little biased. I say this as again, someone who played an intense amount of the older games. I never found things like paintballs and hot drinks/cool drinks 'fun' or 'interesting' or anything along those lines. It wasn't really a failure to load into a map, realize you forgot your hot drink and go ah crap and then quit and reload to bring the drink with you. The focus on the newer games is, as you said, on fighting the monsters themselves. I never felt compelled to grab the spiribirds or anything than that. And I'm not trying to suck Rises' dick, 4U is still my favourite by far and away. Overall a good video that got a little *too* ranty toward the end for my tastes. Rise will be a much more complete game when it gets Sunbreak, the older games always felt more complete on release simply because we only ever got the Ultimate version of the game until Generations.
You're probably never going to read this now but this might be my favourite video you've ever done and it captures exactly how I feel about the series aswell in a way I always knew but couldn't word, thank you. I love this content and everything about your channel.
As much as I love your Freedom Unite section at the beginning, I can't agree with you on some complaints on the simplification of things. I haven't been playing since Freedom Unite, but I did start at Tri for the Wii, which is very close in terms of gameplay. I've played almost every game after, save for the PSP titles, so I have a decent amount of experience with how older games operated. When I forgot a hot or cold drink, or spaced on an antidote or waterblock berries, or didn't eat or whatever else preparatory thing I'd been stupid about, I abandoned the quest. While I feel like the tent does make the game way easier, same with being able to walk while drinking the potion, I don't see why abandoning a quest because you forgot a thing and then going back into it is different than just having those whenever, since you're always doing the quest with them regardless. Yes it's a far different experience when you get hit with an Agnaktor beam and you realize you haven't gotten any fire resistance whatsoever, but it does remove a step that was usually unnecessary, save for a slap on the wrist from the game.
Hey j I just wanted to say that this is one of if not your BEST video by far and another thing, I've been watching your videos since SOS if not a little before and you've given me so much laughter and joy and I'm glad I found you and your videos, Much love amigo.
I got into Monster Hunter because of 3 on the Wii U and loved every game so far. This was an amazing video and loved it, I've played with both the old and new games and enjoyed both. So i can see why fans of the older games would dislike parts of and stuff in the new games. I think the only problem with this video is lumping World and Rise together because while they share aspects they are very different. (haven't played much of ice borne) In World most of the problems aren't there, you still need cold and hot potions, max and ancient full heal you, the canteen increases your food meter. While the monsters still show on the map when you first see them they are blank and can be discovered by running into them (that is only for that one hunt) or picking up marking they left in the world.
At the beginning of the video I thought about jumping through it a bit but didn't because I might miss something important. When it was explained why the intro was long it reminded me when Fatalis was added in world since that was my first Monster Hunter game, and how I took my entire fall break back in my senior year at highschool just to study his moveset, then on that weekend the week after I bet him on my first try on that day. Now after watching this i feel motivated to play generation ultimate again since i just got to G rank the last time I've played so I still have a long way to go, so thanks for that J. I had a great time watching this and enjoy every second of it, even if the thumbnail of with J's biggest learning curves in Freedom Unite nearly scared me at first.
Just gonna throw a short comment here : Rise *isn't* an upgrade to World, by any means. It's an offshoot game, like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. World is a TON better. (Read replies for better context before you throw hate)
How fucking dare you. Do not speak I'll of Raiden With Biden and Wham Bam Slam Sam, Revengeance is a masterpiece, if a cracked out chimpanzee with a sword could write a masterpiece.
@@sentientmonke8265 oh, phew, it's all good, I was just worried I'd have to argue with a hater. But yeah, I understand that for Metal Gear, it kinda breaks pace, just like Rise does, but one is a craft of passion and heart and the other is a quickly-made cashgrab off-shoot to bait dedicated fans of the now-massively-popular franchise into shelling out for even more money to Capcom to never make another game as good for the franchise.
Seems to me like if Monster Hunter 6 really wants to succeed, they oughta begin combining old gen and new gen together. Rise excelled in it's combat, world excelled in it's world and ecology, and old gen excelled in it's feeling of being grounded and vulnerable against the world and it's monsters. 6 has the potential to be one of the best games if they take note of what they've done right and add it all into one complete game. A culmination of these past 20 years of monster hunter for it's 20th anniversary.
I started with world, I absolutely loved it, but I have no interest in any of the other titles. Also, I've never understood the "joy" of getting past a wall. Struggling for hours on the same boss/enemy/level is just plain not fun. When I actually get past it, I'm just relieved I can finally move on and go back to having fun. Don't get me wrong, I like difficulty, Dark Souls is in my top favorite game franchises, but the "pride and accomplishment" idea just confounds me.
I cannot speak to your experience and I have felt what you are talking about but I have also felt that joy and for me the only times I have really enjoyed overcoming a wall was when I was legitimately scared the first 2 times I fought a monster and I think the older games were much better at making you feel fear and inadequacy.
The problem I see with the classic games is that you'd really have to play them in order to truly understand why they're so loved. There is no video on youtube or thread on reddit, twitter, or any other site, no person will ever truly describe why they're great. You HAVE to figure it out by playing it yourself. Just like what JFJ said himself: "I don't know why I love the original monster hunters, but I really really do."
Personally i think monsters hunter world is the best monster hunter game. And i think rise is a massive downgrade in so many areas. It feels more like monster fighter then hunter. There is practically zero exploration. In world you still had plenty of ecology and exploration and stuff. In rise there is basically none of that. And thats why i think rise is one of the worse monster hunter games. Because it guts everything that made monster hunter fun and turns it into a generic action game. They dont even make you actually hunt the monster anymore. They just give you the location right away. in world you had to actually track it down and the more times you hunted it you could find it faster and faster. World kept all the best parts of the old games while still updating the gameplay. Rise went too far with it.
Monster hunter 3 was the first I saw of this series, yet I never gave monster hunter a true chance until generations ultimate. I've been slapping myself for not giving the games a true chance until now. Monster hunter has now been satisfying a craving I never knew I had. Amazing video BTW.
Love that I can share a overlap of good times and memories and horrible blood pressure spiking frustration with so many others, And know that you nailed and appreciate the soul of series near and dear to my heart. AND talk in chat about going from bright eyed hunter kid on a PSP to a grilling 30 year old boomer helping buddies out in rise. PS: WATERMELON ICE ON THE WAY BROTHER.
Thanks for this video JFJ... Your job is so well done, i loved the hunter model idea, i loved your story with FU, i loved your takes on the new games, thanks a lot my dude.
Thank you for talking about Freedom Unite! I've only played World as of writing this, but I've been getting the idea Freedom Unite is a good one to go for next, and yet there's damn near nothing like this on RUclips covering it with such genuine appreciation.
That intro feels me with a sense of wonder and intense nostalgia, great job. I hope more MHFU is underway this game is the GOAT. Also that some sick GS charge snipes you got there
I loved what you put into this J. You conveyed a love for a series that I have never even played, and now I wish to as well. Your emotions were so well spoken, that I felt anger towards fighting diablos, and a sense of frustration of hitting a wall. Your editing was a ton of fun, seeing how the names popped up, how in the rise section it flashed back to unite. Overall, I understand the series a lot better now, as well as enjoyed the video immensely. It's a great video, and I can't wait to see more like this.
It was a while ago you posted this video but I got to say I felt the passion you put into this video and I loved it! And as a fellow hunter who appreciates the hunt I thank you! Keep doing what your doing my guy.
I went from Tri, to Unite, To World. I had a weird order. But because it was my first in the series, I loved the underwater combat in Tri and REALLY wish they would bring it back. There was nothing more satisfying that giving Gobul, Lagiacrus of Ceadeus a whooping in their own element. And I know anyone who has fought Plesioth has wished they could dive in there and give it a taste of its own medicine.
Honestly, this series means a lot to me. It helped me make friends, and opened up my world. I started playing during 3U I was about 13(ish), I bought because of the “wow” factor nothing more I thought this game would be amazing. I hated it, I couldn’t clear the first couple of quests, especially a certain quest when the flagship appears (Lagiacrus). So I left it for a few months, then I came back I knew a bit more but then again I hit a wall (capturing a Lagiacrus) so again I left it. I did eventually get to pickle and killed it after many tries. By now my taste for the series was building and I felt good, about my skill level…then came 4U (my favourite game in the series). I was a rookie, to be frank, and now online was a thing (I played the 3ds version of 3U) my lack of skill was apparent, but I pressed on, after a few months I completed 4U…sort of heh, see there where many quests I had forgotten and some would not appear until I had. So I after a year I had become “good” enough. I decided (as a teenager would with access to the internet and RUclips) to make a hunting group to rival the other MH RUclipsrs (this failed and we all went out separate ways), but in away it opened doors. Generation came, and by now I had a lot more confidence in my abilities, I was now helping others. I skipped world due to reasons (not owning a PS4/Xbox) but it was good in a way, I was still busy playing generations and started to play 4U, and completing most of the game this time…(yay). Now, after a two years of limbo, I picked up my hunting mantle, rise. And this is when I started to understand, and my skills hit the point of soloing Crimson Glow Valstrax (even the strong one). So yeah, this game means a lot to me, and I’m glad more people can enjoy it. Thanks for reading and thank you JFJ for making this video (which I’ll now watch).
I think a good summary of this video can be applied to real life Is that people nowadays are afraid of failure. And let me tell you. Making mistakes and failing at things is NOT. a bad thing. We have been told that doing a bad thing is bad. Of course making a mistake is "bad" but thats because weve been told that INSTEAD of being taught that they are opportunities to learn. Risk of failure breeds effort. And effort breeds success (Not always but it definitely raises the chance for it!) Dont be afraid of failure. Embrace it. It may help with accepting any flaws you may have as well.
To be completely honest, I wouldn't mind the next Monster Hunter game being more old-world style with the things like picks and bugnets, potion flex, bringing your own whetstones, things like that.
I'm a bit late to see this vid but I have got to say I've never been more personally touched by a youtuber. Like besides talking about one of my favorite franchises, you sounded so genuine and real throughout the entire vid. Can't wait to see what you do next

You can still basically do that. Pretty sure the monsters don't chase you into other zones in modern monster hunter

Real hunters drink their potion right in front of the monster, just for spite. That's the real flex.
The fact that you can have a sponsor, and advertise the banner for it for literally .2 seconds is amazing to me. Most of the real advertisement was your model drinking it. Very respectable, thank you.

Are you gonna play mhgu?

“It tip my hat to you, One sock to another”
- Vo Memes, probably
It took me two sittings but here I am
I'll start off with what I loved
-Your ability to give criticism while making it clear you still love the game is amazing, and I think the only youtuber I've seen that's pulled it off this well
-The focus on your points while still making it sound like I'm in a conversation and not listening to a teacher in a class (like most commentary's) Is amazing, hell I say better than Mandaloregaming, and he's phenomenal at it.
- It was very refreshing for someone to see the long burn of the first game as part of the gameplay loop, and not the generic "Outdated and old jank" as I feel a LOT of others would call it as
And just one thing I feel like could use some work
-Now the intro was a great part of the video after seeing what you exposed with "2 types of people" As a editing/creative choice it's genius, but if you want this video to not be buried by those dreaded tik tok videos, I recommend giving a speech before the intro! I wouldn't be upset at all if it stayed the way it did but I do know the first 10 seconds of a video is very important
I hope you have a good week J! Take a break, you've been working your butt off on this for pretty a long while now!
The part about the intro is true, I only kept watching cause I was like “there’s no way in hell this is just 45 minute long video of monster hunter clips

Now I wanna know where that thumbnail came from.

@@Chaoszidenrules the next game is made by the devs from world so its gonna be more on the immersion scaled
I like rise but I think the speed could be taken a slight speed back and more like a more polished mhw combat.
J didnt introduce me to the games, but he did get me to come back after being very burned out of it :))))
I audibly yelled the most GUTTURAL and LOUDEST "NOOOO" when i read in the description who drew the thumbnail

Awesome video J, love seeing the Sock Sights.
for me Generations on the 3ds was my first MH game and I think its the perfect balance between these two styles of game it still had the old slow systems but it had some combat boosts that made it extremely fun to play.

Also I feel your pain in Rise... I know that "lacking of hunting"...

You missed the whole point of the video. Man literally says he is glad you dont have to gather grind dumbass fiver 🤡
This video is amazing, and now I’m in love with this amazing franchise.

You got me with the intro. I cannot press skip when Proof of a Hero or Pokke Theme is playing.
Tyrion is a cat
You're probably never going to read this now but this might be my favourite video you've ever done and it captures exactly how I feel about the series aswell in a way I always knew but couldn't word, thank you. I love this content and everything about your channel.
YEAHHHHH
1st gen hunter fan here and I played these since the ps2 and loved every hour I spent on it
As much as I love your Freedom Unite section at the beginning, I can't agree with you on some complaints on the simplification of things.
I love the long intro because it defines what type of player you are, that’s cool
imma need that ending track sauce man
Hey j I just wanted to say that this is one of if not your BEST video by far and another thing, I've been watching your videos since SOS if not a little before and you've given me so much laughter and joy and I'm glad I found you and your videos, Much love amigo.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO

@@jakeking974 I'm sorry, didn't mean to speak ill of this insane cocanium trip that is Revengeance (I loved every second of it)
@@sentientmonke8265 oh, phew, it's all good, I was just worried I'd have to argue with a hater.
@@jakeking974 well said, basically put what I wanted to say in proper words.
I’ve had monster hunter rise on my wishlest a while before your videos on it, and now I’m sold
Thank you for talking about Freedom Unite! I've only played World as of writing this, but I've been getting the idea Freedom Unite is a good one to go for next, and yet there's damn near nothing like this on RUclips covering it with such genuine appreciation.
Thanks for putting in all the effort for this video, it’s nice to see the earlier games be talked about
That intro feels me with a sense of wonder and intense nostalgia, great job. I hope more MHFU is underway this game is the GOAT.
Also that some sick GS charge snipes you got there
This series has taken over my gaming catalogue. World, Rise, now GU. I’m eventually going as far back as i can.
Dudeeeee. This take me back to my childhood man, when Monster Hunter was on the PSP.
God I am old.
I think a good summary of this video can be applied to real life
Is that people nowadays are afraid of failure.
And effort breeds success (Not always but it definitely raises the chance for it!)
Dont be afraid of failure.
You spoke my mind with this video exactly 1 to 1 thanks for the great work.
