  • This short video covers some of the do's and don'ts which are very obvious to many people when installing a Sunsynk hybrid inverter.
    DO
Always install the inverter in a well-ventilated area
Check your supply voltage, and ensure you have a good grounding and a good neutral ( a floating neutral can be very dangerous )
Make sure that the inverter is actually switched, on it can appear to be working even when it's not switched on.
If you're using a timer ensure that the clock is set to the correct time
Always check you have good communication with your battery before completing the commissioning of any system, if you don't have good communication the system will not work.
    Check your battery charging currents
    Check the inverter limiters
When paralleling inverters in 3 Phase check that the true master is on the start of the rotation sequence
If you need to charge the batteries from either a generator or the AC you must program an inverter to do this it will not do it automatically
    Don't
Try never to exceed the VOC for 450 V
Never join in MPPT's together this will damage them.
Don't try to parallel inverters without communication between the inverters this could cause damage
Never run the inverter without the correct protection equipment
Never run an inverter unless it is grounded correctly
Never run an inverter without a CT coil is very important even if using a generator

Hi, nice list of do's and don't of a Sunsynk Inverter...
Though, how do you know if you have bad communication cables?
We had a parallel problem in our 2 units - 8 kW Deye Hybrid Inverters with 2 units - 5 kWh GSL LiFePo4 Batteries.
We connected the 2 Inverters via CAN port with 00 Lithium Mode. Then we connected the "Master" Inverter to the Master Batter, the Slave Inverter to the Slave Battery. Then we connected the Batteries via RS485 B.
They work each one independently but they don't work when paralleled.
What could possibly be the problem?

    Hi Heith
I have just done a 5kw installation myself. No batteries yet. It seems to be an overachiever so far and I am highly impressed.
Question: The last 3 nights we had serious lightning storms in our area. It seems that the system switches off and does not come back on. In the morning everything seems fine, but in the top left-hand corner, it says OFF. No power is generated even though the sun is shining. I then do a shutdown procedure and a startup procedure as per the manual. The system then comes back ON and performs normally.
There are no fault codes registered for these events.
    Is this normal ?
What have I done wrong ?
Could it be an installation fault or a setting fault ?
I cannot think that it was designed this way.
Any comment or possible solution would be appreciated.

All the panel frames are linked and properly earthed.

    Hi Keith
Let me start by say I really enjoy all your videos as they are very informative. I’ve been looking at fitting solar with the final objective not to depend on the grid at all. This is due to the SA power issues and them put electrical prices up as and when they feel. Currently I have calculated that I would require around 8.5 kw system to be off grid. Due to pricing of a full system to do the job my intention was to start with one 5kw inverter with its additional requirements and the n add another later.
The only down side is once I split my DB for the essential loads I only have a average of around 500w requirement. The inverter from what I understand does not cross feed the PV power to the heavy loads when there is abundant watt available.this means that the 5 k inverter only takes care of the UPS load and Im stuck with the grid suppling the balance ( let’s say the total house requirement is 2000 watts 400 would be cover on the light side by the inverter and 1600 watts I will have to pay issskom for. But it’s 12:00 noon and have 4800 watts coming off the roof. This is the only thing that is making me look into an Alturnative inverter option that cover both Heavy and the light side of the inverter when there is sufficient power from panel or batteries to do so.
Or do you have another way to sort this problem out. Please advice as other than this down fall your inverter gets a 💯 % thumbs up from me. Thanks

@Ronald Wiseman, both my Sunsynk inverters handily sends all the available PV to the load, and only starts suplementing with Grid power if the PV is insufficient to carry the load. Perhaps look at your settings, I suspect there is an issue with the installation or with the settings of the inverter which might easily be corrected at no additional expense

Hi, I have a 12kw 3 phase inverter. When grid fails the potential difference between neutral and earth on the backup rises to over 100VAC. I would like to fit a relay to bridge neutral and earth during grid failure. If I connect the relay to grid power, the problem is that when grid returns, the inverter has not yet switched the incoming grid internally as it waits for the grid to be stable. I measured terminals 5 and 6 and no voltage on those terminals when grid is on or when grid fails. I selected Signal Island Mode and still nothing. Any setting that I may be missing?

Hi Keith, can you please explain the Passthrough current on the inverters? In the manuals they indicate the amps but we find that the inverters still trip out af the Max Watt's. On the Victron inverters they have pass through current that runs through the inverter as long as grid is active but with the Sunsynk its limited to max Watts of the inverter.
    Thank you

Have to say your call centre support is a disgrace. Phoned Liverpool today and was put through to South Africa, could barely understand what was being said and the guy on the phone didn’t seem to know much and was having a discussion with someone else in the background - not impressed at all. Your online instructions are entirely aimed at installers and are very confusing for end users. You need to sort this out!

    Hi Keith,
Must the grounding on the inverter case be to separate grounding rods or can I join it to the common ground in the distribution board to the house? Is this the same for the grounding on the lithium battery casing?

    • @Goreuncle
      @Goreuncle 10 месяцев назад

I'd say that it depends on the regulations in your country.
Here in Spain, the code doesn't actually get into such detail regarding solar installation grounding, which causes quite a lot of confusion, even among professionals.
However, if you persist and keep digging for information, you'll hopefully find some answers.
In my case, I found an official code interpretation note published by the ministry of industry, which applied to solar installation grounding (albeit indirectly).
According to this note, all PEs must be connected to the building's own grounding rod (which is separate from the grid, following the TT earthing system).
But this only applies if the solar installation is integrated in the building/house.
If the solar system isn't integrated in the building/house, then an additional grounding rod is installed next to the solar system's location, where all PEs from the solar system will be connected.
Now, depending on the distance between the house and the location where the solar system is installed, this separate grounding rod might need to be bonded with the building's main grounding rod.
If the distance is below 100-200 meters or so (this depends on the characteristics of the soil), then both grounding rods need to be bonded.
If the distance is above 200 meters, then the grounding rods can remain independent.

Use the timer on the System Mode screen. Set the SOC you wish to discharge the battery to, and the inverter will use the battery until it reaches your set SOC before using grid power. If you have PV panels, I would also suggest that you disable Battery Grid Charging from the Battery screen, unless you go through an extended period of overcast weather where the PV power is just not enough to charge your battery fully during the day

    • @PhillMagGamerDad

A good rule of thumb is that lithium batteries can at best only provide 50% of their capacity as continuous discharge. This means your combined 10kWh batteries can only supply 5000W continuously. With that said, unless you actually require 8000W of load capacity while the grid is offline, I see no reason why your 2 5kWh batteries wouldn't be enough to handle normal household usage comfortably

    • @Goreuncle
      @Goreuncle 10 месяцев назад

If Sunsynk software has the same basic settings as Deye's (and it looks like it does), you'll be able to limit max battery charge/discharge current to the number of amps that you please (within reason).
As for the recommended max battery charge/discharge current, that'll depend on manufacturer recommendations and type of battery.
The rule of thumb for lithium is 50% of battery capacity (Ah), so if you have a capacity of 200Ah, it should be ok to set a max c/d current of 100A.
Pylontech US5000 is supposed to have a recommended c/d current of 50-75A (with a max of 100A).
In my case, I bought a 5kW Deye battery, the supplier's tech department is telling me that I can set max c/d current to 100A if I want to (even though I only have a single 100Ah battery), since the battery's BMS is smart enough to reduce c/d current to safe levels when needed.
We rarely need 2-3+kW when the battery is discharging (during the evening-night), so limiting c/d current to 50-75A (~2500-4000kW) isn't a problem for us.
