By far the best video on Sunsync setup. Wow. Even the installers did not set mine up correctly. I noticed I was using municipality power even when my PV had the ability to produce 8.8KW and my non essentials only using 1kw. Pv was throttled as batteries were full. Now all sorted. I have tried limiting to zero but the system only allows a minimum of 500w. Maybe I need a software update. I'm sure many non technical people have a system and due to the setup, not getting the most out of it. What do I do with excess power going into the grid. Can I get a credit from municipality in SA? You a genius. Thanks for this video

"Inverter Power Limiter" used to be entitled "Max Sell Power" in an earlier firmware version, which made marginally more sense.
And "Solar Export" used to be labelled "Sol Exp Bat Full" which also made marginally more sense.
Now the Work Mode 2 tab has been added (used to all be on one page) and they've completely stuffed the descriptions in the process.

Believe due to firmware changes the Work Mode 2 setup you describe to power non-essential and not export to the grid does not work anymore. Now you simply have to check Zero Export and then keep the Inverter Power Limiter to the size of the inverter. If you have Solar Export checked it will push back to the grid, even with 0 as the limit I found it still pushed back ±400W

Hi Marius, so grateful to have found your very well explained video. We recently had a Sunsynk inverter with panels installed, but are also still connected to Eskom. We have a non essential db with geyser and stove connected to Eskom and essential db connected to ups/batteries/s.panels. During the day the s.panels and Eskom powers the house, with excess solar power going to the non essential db. At night from 22:00 - 09:30 next day our system has been set to run off our battery. My understanding was that the battery will only feed the essentials db during that time and Eskom the non essentials db, but I have noticed that during that time should the geyser or oven from the non essentials db come on, that the battery will feed those items with atleast 65% and Eskom then adding only 35% to make up the demand. My question is this: like the s.panels feeding the non essentials is it possible for the battery to also feed the non essentials, giving Eskom is not down?

Hi Marius, thanks, I am a big fan of your videos. Unless I misunderstood your explanation, I have a correction to how the Sunsynk works at time 6:02 in the video. The setting "inverter power limiter" which in your example is 2000W, is a limit one can apply so that at any moment the inverter will cap the amount of power fed back to non-essential loads. If zero export is ticked the inverter will not export anything back to the street. I use a scenario, If solar is 5000W, backup load is 1000W, battery at 100%SOC and non-essentials are using 3000W, the inverter will limit the momentary feed to non-essential to 2000W after servicing backup load. The inverter will throttle the solar down to 4000W so the equation balances. I normally set the inverter power limiter to the maximum. I hope this makes sense?

HI Marius, a very helpful video. I have just bought a Sunsynk 3.6 ECCO inverter with 3.5 kWp solar panels here in the UK. In this house we have only had a power cut about once a year and then for no more than an hour, so power cuts are not a problem here. One question about which there is some confusion of terminology, as you use the terms critical and essential for the same thing. Do you mean Critical = Essential loads and Non-critical = Non essential loads ?

    • @wheretimehasnovalue9343
      @wheretimehasnovalue9343 Год назад

I think so John, as there are only essential (critical) and non-essential (non-critical) loads. i would as well be careful to design careful what we can afford and what we want in 2 years from now. this would better assist in not underdesigning a system and then being dissappointed as so many people are.
spend time calculating what you actually move over as essential loads, and think carefully about the future. know your house, know your load, know your cost. spen d time doing your own measurements and calculations. you will find your shopping list better suits you.
although in saying all this. the av household will use between 900-1200 kWh a month, with a third going to essential, and 2/3rds non-essential, roughly, but not exactly depending on your home heating, etc requirements. i would always design for 1/3 rd + 20 % (1/5th) ~=0.533 * max load, which is just over 50% of your monthly load.

Hi Marius, I'm having trouble with my solar panel setup. Even with excess solar power, non-essential appliances like water heaters and ACs are drawing from the grid. I've noticed the AC load adds solar and grid power together, e.g., 5000W solar + 3000W grid shows 8000W, even when everything else is off. My Work Mode is set to 'Limited to home'. I've tried different settings, but no luck. How can I use my solar surplus efficiently? Need your guidance. Thanks!" P.S. Im not an electrician just an end user :)

Good explaination - however (for work mode 2), I need to know how the Inverter knows the difference between non-essential and essential (unless I have missed something basic?) The non-esencial loads are on a different DB board, with only a shared bus bar?
Hence is it possible to push back to non-essential, without pushing back to the grid.?
I will test over the next couple of days.

It is possible to push back to the non-essentials and not to the grid. The CT clamp prevents pushing back to the grid. Another thing you can do with this inverter is to put your non-essentials onto the second output of the inverter, the Aux Load (or Smart load).

    Hi Marius.
Even after 2 months I still don't know what options to check and which charge parameters to use with my Sunsynk inverters.
    I have 4 x Pylontech 5000 batteries at 4,8Kw each (19.2 Kw)
    2 x 3.6 Kw hybrid inverters in Parallel. (2 x 16 amp)
My separate AC loads DB is connected to the paralleled output MCB after the Load ports of the inverters; and my grid connections paralleled from the MCB input MCB (supplied by a 40amp RCBO from my MAIN DB )
I understand the system is bi-directional and can take or give power through any of the 3 ports ( generator / Aux ports are not used)
My Master CT coil is extended to 12 metres using separated CAT 5 wire into 2 pairs per wire for the black/white CT coil which measures 120 ohms as Sunsynk have advised.
I am unsure which boxes to tick and what % SOC to configure the controller at ?
I want to charge all day from solar (2.4 kw DC coupled) but also run my "critical" AC loads DB when required, then use cheap, OFF PEAK grid energy at night to top the batteries off during our miserable UK weather spells....
i have zero export checked but im unsure what else to tick !
I have 95% SOC and a GRID tick in the first 2 rows during OFF PEAK periods ( 21.30pm to 00'00 and 00.00 to 02.30am)
All other time stamps i have no tick and 40% soc.
Does this mean i charge to 95% as i expect during those off peak times ?
Also do the other settings mean i discharge using battery only down to 40%.
It is so unclear isnt it ?

Hi. I have a question and just cant find an answer anywhere online. If i have for example this 5kw sunsync hybrid inverter and the grid is on. No loadshedding. And i have all my non essencial running together. Which will be more than 5kw. Will the inverter trip or does it run normally from grid to appliances? I dont want to limit my whole house to just 5kw output in normal grid times. Obviously with loadshedding load needs to be reduced.

There are probably 3 x 40amp capacitors in that inverter, so if no loadshedding and the inverter is in bypass (using grid along battery), the inverter should not trip. If it does, check the trip switch in the DB board. It might only be a 20amp trip, meaning 20Ax220V=4.4kW. So, if your load is 6kW, then the trip switch would, well, trip :)

The grid connection is a 2 way street. The grid is connected to your DB and to your Inv (only 1 connection). The inv can ramp up it's frequency so that it starts supplying the DB by reducing what the grid is carrying. Of course the grid frequency doesn't actually change but that is how it works.(If it was a generator you would be supplying more fuel to increase the rpm/freq). The load connection is your output for critical load (Think of it as a UPS). During an outage the load connection stays energized while the grid connection would be deenergized. You can also do things with the gen connection, it can be an input or it can be an output, not both.
