Welcome to the world of (g)I-dle, you won't be disappointed! Here's a couple of fun facts: SoYeon (the rapper) actually comes up with the concepts, writes and produces all their title tracks and almost all of the songs. In the early days she noticed that the other members' voices were starting to sound alike so she fired their vocal coach in a bid to preserve the difference in the member's voices. MiYeon ( 3:11 ) was originally supposed to debut with Blackpink. Minnie 9:43 is Thai and is very close friends with Lisa. 2:51 Yuqi's voice is so low because when she was 2 years old she suffered from an intense fever and cried so much it affected her vocal chords permanently. 12:16 Shuhua had said she would never dye her hair but when SoYeon presented her with the concept for Nxde, Shuhua decided to make an exception and go blonde
()i-dle are not afraid to try something new. So many of their songs sound so different. The leader, Soyeon, is the creative force behind the group, although the of them write and produce. I think this is one of the reasons they are so unique - they create their own music. Their b-sides are also fantastic (my bag is a b-side). In my opinion, the 2 best girl groups in kpop, and the ones that least sound like girl groups, are ()i-dle and mamamoo. Mamamoo have always had a more mature sound, while ()i-dle has always had a dark and strong feel to their music - it is very hard to describe
I'm new to girl groups and these are the two that appealing to me. Seems like I'm on the right track checking these two groups out.
Coincidentally, or maybe one factor why those 2 groups are different from the others, is that they both have 2 of the best (if not the best) female rappers in kpop (Soyeon of (G)-Idle and Moonbyul of Mamamoo) who actually write their own raps, something that is quite rare in kpop girl groups. And, of course, I don't need to mention that both groups have members who are clearly talented and have passion for music and performance, real artists.
(G)I-dle is a 5 member used to be 6 but one of the members Soojin left the group on August 14th, 2021 and so Tomboy was the first comeback without her so yeah always a part of g-idle. There company they’re from is Cube Entertainment and they debuted on May 2nd, 2018 with their title track Latata. Their names are Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. Soyeon is korean, leader and Main rapper, Miyeon is the oldest member, Korean, and main vocalist, Minnie is Thai, is actually friends with Lisa, and the main vocalist, Yuqi is Chinese, the one with a deep voice, and lead dancer/ sub vocalist, and lastly Shuhua is the maknae, Taiwanese, and the sub vocalist. For the former member Soojin is Korean, main dancer and sub vocalist. As for song recommendation for next reaction should definitely be on my god and lion because there really good songs

you not expecting rapping for soyeon is funny cause she is one the best rappers in kpop and the best female rapper in 4th gen , she's is seriously so talented , literally an ace as in she's the main writer and producer of the groups songs , gidle is definitely not the typical girl group and they are so diverse while making music and concepts is insane , you won't regret getting into them

She is among the most Credited female Idol in K-Pop
They are the MOST unique girl group when it comes to Kpop. One of my favorites. Miyeon was to be a BlackPink member. Minnie of Thailand is good friend with Lisa. Soyeon is singer/rapper/song writer.

The guide I linked will get into the members and their pronunciation, buutttt if you want to know with this comment to the best of my ability:
Soyeon (So-yeon): leader, main rapper, vocalist and producer (she actually produces 90% of their discography). She's the one with the high-pitched voice, the two rap verses on TOMBOY, and on the piano in NXDE as well as the two rap verses there.
Miyeon (mi-yeon): Main vocalist. She was originally supposed to debut with BLACKPINK when she was still a YG trainee. The oldest in the group. She's the one with the movie star line in NXDE.
Minnie: Also main vocalist. Thai member. Actress. She sang the Hello my name is yeppi yeppi yo line in NXDE.
Yuqi (ooo-gii): Lead Dancer and lead vocalist, does rap. Chinese Member. She has the deeper voice out of the other members.
Shuhua (shoe-hwaa; at least thats how I mostly heard it pronounced as): The youngest, visual, Taiwanese member. Sub-vocalist. She did the second "baby how do I look" lines in the first chorus in NXDE.
Yuqi and Minnie have also produced/song write songs in the group's discorgraphy
There was a sixth member named Soojin who was the main dancer and sub vocalist. She "left" the group in 2021 and I put it in air quotes because the WHOLE situation was so messy. As someone who kept tabs as it was happening, it was really unfortunate that Soojin is no longer part of the group. The guides wont get into it. She is still mentioned in updated guides as she should since shes still part of the group's history and the group do drop subtle references to her, or rather can be intepreted as such.
More Gidle reactions pls💜 They are literally one of the most unique and creative groups in kpop. They songs are amazing.
Gidle are my favorite girl group (besides Blackpink). Their name can be pronounced as "G Idle" or just "Idle" but for Tomboy era, they decided to briefly drop the "G". The group used to consist of 6 members, but due to some unfortunate events, a member had to leave. Tomboy was their first release as 5 members after a year of hiatus. It is true that they are very different from other Kpop girl groups. They are very well known/respected for their artistry, especially Soyeon, Gidle's leader and rapper. She is responsible for conceptualizing their concepts and presenting them to their company. From album titles to styling to choreography, she comes up with everything. She also writes and produces for the group alongside 2 other members, Minnie and Yuqi, tho the majority of their discography is still written and produced by her.
Both Tomboy and Nxde are such amazing songs, but I kinda hate that at the end of Nxde, in the RUclips translation, the line "the pervert is you" was replaced with "you've got a dirty mind". Idk it just doesn't hit the same. And btw, the cartoon shown throughout the mv doesn't have a name, it was animated specifically for the video. Fans like to believe it's meant to represent their former member, Soojin, cuz it coincidentally has blonde hair and a mole under its eye like she did. She also really admired Marilyn Monroe and was one of her role models. Although, this is mostly just wishful thinking on our part since we still miss her, and we haven't seen her since she left 🫠🫠🫠
Also, imo Soyeon's rap in Tomboy is not one of her best raps overall, but it's still one of my favorites. A lot of Kpop stans have been giving her shit for it because they don't like her voice and think she's just "saying words" with no meaning (most of these remarks tend to have xenophobic undertones), but it has quite a lot of meaning behind it.
Comment was already long enough but here's my breakdown of Soyeon's Tomboy rap if you're curious:
I don't wanna play this ping pong, I would rather film a TikTok = "Ping pong" is often used as an analogy of going back & forth in an argument and TikTok is something that's currently being used a lot by young people to pass time. So Soyeon is basically saying that instead of endless arguing she'd rather be doing something fun.

Your mom raised you as a prince, but this is Queendom, right? = Soyeon is referring to men who've benefited from a sexist society where everything is handed to them, but that won't be happening if they're with her. It's also a callback to the reality competition show "Queendom" which Gidle participated in.

I like to dance; I love my friends = I think this line is pretty self-explanatory. Makes a little more sense if you take into account the theory for the next line**

Sometimes we swear without cigarettes = In Korean society, girls who swear are often associated with smoking and viceversa. They're also seen as bad people and bad influences. Soyeon is basically saying that she can swear without necessarily having to be smoker or a bad person. **It can also possibly be referring to former member, Soojin, who was accused of swearing and smoking when she was in middle school.

I like to eh, on drinking whiskey = In this case "eh" is being used as a replacement/censor for the word "sex" (we know this because of the uncensored version). Here Soyeon is saying she likes to have sex while drinking whiskey.

oh also, iirc tikitaka is also the korean word for going back and forth in an argument, so it's also a play on words there!

Their melon music awards performance this year was so good you should def check it out! If you want a deeper dive, a video called “The rise of (G)I-dle” is great, it’s a bit long but it feels like a documentary, really well made!
They have had a great evolution, maturity and resilience in the face of the challenges they have had and although Soojin is always missed, they always keep her in mind and have found their style both musically and on stage. And that is what over time distinguishes a group from the rest and makes it stand out.
(G)I-DLE is a south Korean girl group formed by cube entertainment. Formed being a key word as literally everything else is done by the leader, main rapper, and center of the group, Jeon Soyeon. She writes and produces literally every single song from their discography! They are truly a self made group. Originally a 6 member piece, Seo Soojin left the group in August 2021 after false allegations spread about her and the company did nothing to protect her or support her. They've made it clear that they still support and love soojin in so many of their songs since she departed. Soyeon's rap in tomboy is a direct link to soojins allegations which involved things such as smoking and drinking which she mentions in the rap, the 6 balloons leaving the trunk of the car and nxde being entirely inspired by Marilyn Monroe who was one of soojins favourite icons. The cartoon character in nxde have alot of people believing that it's supposed to represent soojin (the cartoon character in the mv Is quite literally identical to soojin from mole placements under her eye etc). It shows how much love and support they truly have for her. The rest of the members are Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua. I'd reccomend listening to oh my god, lion, and hwaa from them. Also there are some amazing guides out there which I totally think you should watch but definitely watch a newer one as you'll get more up to date info
One of my top groups, they're so talented and produce their own music too which isn't common with girl groups. Soyeon is the reason I discovered kpop, her raps are fire!
Also, Tomboy was their comeback after a year-long hiatus when everyone believed they were done for after Soojin (former member) was kicked out of the group due to a false bullying allegation back in 2021😤. Anyway, they came back with a bang in 2022. The album accompanying Tomboy is called ‘I Never Die’ and they definitely didn’t.
Nxde on the other-hand is a song tackling how other people (mostly men) objectify women and they wanted to erase the prejudice behind the word “nude”. Hence, the lyrics - “I’m born nude. You’ve got a dirty mind.” It was also inspired by Marilyn Monroe (Soojin’s favorite person/actress and role model😊) and Banksy.
And Soyeon is the mastermind behind all the ideas. The other members pitch in their opinions as well. But Soyeon is the only one who presents (she literally makes powerpoints😭) it to the board(?) of cube (the company they are under) in a meeting.

(G)I-dle is one of the best girl groups out there 💜
Girls group that have confident and have "rebellious" messages is (G)Idle. Soyeon, the leader is their main song writer and producer even has hard time to convincing their company to release their music. Most of their member is true artist, not just an idol. A girls group that talk about confident also, is Le Sserafim. Huh Yunjin, a member of Le Sserafim wrote about idol live that most of k-pop idols afraid to talk about it. The tilte is "I ≠ doll". their label is Source Music (part of Hybe) is brave to release her song.
(G)i-Dle does not fit any traditional concepts for a group and their concept could be summarized as "we do what we want and don't care what others think about what we do".

Those two MVs/songs convinced me that they are one of the best 4th gen K-Pop groups.
The leader and main rapper; Soyeon produces, writes, and composes the majority of their music. She is also considered one of the best 4th gen rappers in K-Pop and she has the top three fastest raps by a female K-Pop artist.
Oh and soyeon is the fastest female rapper in kpop

XG - "Tape 2" if u are looking for a "harder" girl group vibe. Hubby would probably like it.
XG is a seven member group that consists of 4 rappers and 3 vocals.
They debuted in March 2022 and currently have two songs, "Tippy Toes" and "Mascara". They have a comeback scheduled to be released this month, January 2023.
Their videos labeled "XG Tape" highlights their rap line, videos labeled "XG Vox" highlights their vocal line, and videos labeled "XG Move" highlights their dance skills.
They are all Japanese and were recruited and primarily trained in Japan. They then received more training in South Korea, where they are currently based out of.
They are marketed as a global girl group with all of their curently released music videos being in entirely English; even though they all speak fluent Japanese, English, and Korean. Some people label them as J-POP, because they are Japanese, and some people label them as K-POP, because they were trained using the K-POP trainee system and are based in South Korea. However, their management is trying to avoid both of those labels and are insistent with being labeled as a global girl group.
Their company is XGALX, which is a sublabel of AVEX, a Japanese entertainment conglomerate.

What attracted me to (g)I-dle, besides the girl crush and unique voices like Blackpink, are the messages in the songs. Nxde is a critique of the sexual objectification of women. That's why it's inspired by Marilyn Monroe when she tried to break the sexual image to show the real intelligent woman that she was.
And I was impressed to learn how Soyeon is one of the main responsible for everything.

Nude has a meaning behind it which is evident in the lyrics I love them for standing up for women.
I love (G)I-dle so much! 🔥 They are so talented, their music is so good and Same girl, I also find them really interesting and different. They participate a lot in the creation of their own music and they are not afraid of speaking what they want in their music, performancs, etc. I think they deserve way more recognition!
I don't consider myself a fan yet because I don't have the time to properly stan more artists and stuff but I admit they are great and have all my support.
They are the best of this generation. Nothing can stop them.
In glad you like them so far. They're not for everyone but they sure know how to keep it interesting.

Now, onto a few facts about (G)-IDLE:
The leader, Soyeon (the rapper), is the main producer, composer, and songwriter for I-DLE ever since debut (she was literally the reason why they were able to debut with a hit song - Latata). The other two members who also composes, produces and writes songs are Minnie and Yuqi. The three of them are called ‘the producer line’ and they each have distinct music, so it’s quite easy to tell who produced which songs. The age order is Miyeon (oldest), Minnie, Soojin (former member whom we miss so much😔), Soyeon (the leader), Yuqi, and Shuhua (maknae = youngest).

The interesting thing about Soyeon's was of pronouncing words is that it also applies to how she speaks Korean. She is born and raised in Seoul but she doesn't sound like it Different cities/regions of Korea have different accents. You can usually tell when someone was raised in another city and over time, if they are a celebrity, they will eventually adopt the Seoul accent. I'm thinking that because of how she likes to play with word pronunciations in her rap, her word pronunciations in daily speech has changed. For example: if she's rapping, "I'm drinking from a glass," she might change say it as "I me dranka fro me a glat." Adding or subtracting syllables as needed to fit the structure of the song and to line up rhymes. Most Korean rappers do this to an extent but she pushes it the farthest.

Minnie= you pronounced it right
Yuqi= looking at it in print you would think it would be “ Yuki” like you said but, to hear herself say it it’s “ Oogi”
Shuhua= shoe-hwa so you were right in the final time you tried to say it.
Oogi is the pronunciation of her name written in hangul (Korean characters)
Fun fact in Chinese her name is pronounced Yuchi or Yuxi (depending on how we read "Ch" / "X" sound)
Yuqi is Chinese so the Chinese pronoun ion is Yu chi she isn't Korean so pronouncing it oogie is wrong in my opinion .
Fun fact one of the members trained with blackpink for years and was considered to be in the lineup for blackpink before debut. And Minnie is friends with Lisa.

Some things to know before going deep into (G)I-DLE
Soyeon created Latata because CUBE Entertainment couldn't give them a suitable debut song, she was 19 yo at that time (almost 20) but it was just the starting of our journey !
She then created and (co)produced almost every single song and every song used as a main song (Title Track) are Soyeon's creation.
As for today, counting the last comeback (I Love), there is only one song where Soyeon didn't took part in any kind of way and it's Polaroid created and (co)produced by Yuqi.
Soyeon is always involved at least in the lyrics because she can't rap a line/verse that she didn't herself wrote:
- Because she think rappers should write their stuff,
- And also because she want to express her feeling through her writing.
All of (G)I-DLE members have somehow unique voices, Soyeon wasn't ok with the other members' voice coaches because they wanted them to be generic for the K-POP industry (if I understood correctly), but she thought that their atypical voices would be the group' strength.
Nowadays we have a producer line, Soyeon (ofc), Minnie and then Yuqi.
Minnie always had the idea to produce song as well, so she come out with "Blow your mind", which is a b-side from "I Made" their 2nd Mini album, she created it alongside with Soyeon, she then created other songs (Moon,Dahlia etc...).
Yuqi then join in the producer line too, with the co-created/produced (alongside Minnie) song "I'm the Trend" which is seen as Nevies anthem. Neverland being the fandom name of (G)I-DLE.
We now have 3 capable producer, that can make fire in the future and we saw it threw the album "I Never Die" or before that the album "I Burn"
With "I Never Die"'s comeback Miyeon voiced her growing desire to write and produce songs too, so maybe in the future we will have a Miyeon production too !
Soyeon released her first solo album on July 5th, 2021 which is named "Windy", the album show a different side of her. A more bubbly and bright person that she aspire to be more.
"Beam Beam" being the title track, is bright have some rock aspect that really match the summer.
She also have a collaboration with BIBI and Lee Youngji which are korean rappers, one the song "Is this bad b***** number" which I really recommend listening to.
Yuqi did her solo debut in 2021 with "Giant" and "Bonnie and Clyde", she also used to be in "Learn Way: Season 1" also known as "Learn Wave" during 2020.

Miyeon released her first solo album "MY" on April 27th, 2022. It was a long awaited album from many fans and showcase how beautiful her vocal really is. It is a soothing and appeasing album.
The album have "Drive" as it's title track which is a really ray of sunshine, the album on it's own is a very healing time to listen to.
She wrote her first song in her solo debut's mini album "MY", with the song "Rain" which was produced by Yuqi as a gift to her.
Unfortunately Soojin got caught in a bully scandal, which became viral because she got accused by an actress, which lead her to not being active from February 2021 to August 2021, then leaving (G)I-DLE but staying under Cube Entertainment from "August 2021"
After bringing the police to the table and juridic case, it was difficult to prove whether the opposite side lied or not or whether Soojin was a bully or not since the event occurred 10-12 years ago... Which lead Soojin leaving Cube Entertainment at the beginning of March 2022.
(I will not take position on this, I'm only LARGELY summarising)
"Hwaa" was released January 11 2021 and since that date we didn't had group's comeback for 1 year and 2 months (I don't count "Last dance" since it's a promotional song for "Universe") and every member took a break and focused more on solo stuff. Foreigner line (Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua) going back in their countries.
I will not come across everything they had done during 2021/early 2022 but it's mind blowing.
Until now 2022 was a really booked year for them, wanting to compensate for the lost time they worked really hard this year.
They release their first full album with "I Never Die" in March 14th, then got booked with a lot of variety shows, brand apparition, cooperation with other artists in those two matter as well.
Then they booked their first ever World Tour, which started the 18th of June in Seoul and finished October 1st in Singapore.
With all the hard work done during this year we couldn't hope for more, but then they released their newest comeback: "I Love".
With this comeback they shut every people thinking they were a "One Hit Wonder", they bagged PAKs once again, they also multiply their sales by almost 5.
They are the first group after Twice (2016) to bag PAK with two songs in the same year and one of the 5 K-Pop act to do so and they did it with their own color and message.
Which once again show the dedication they have for their musics.
During MMA 2022 she received her most wanted award, Best Song Writer of the Year, it was an historical moment for Neverland since we always wished for her to one day grab this award.
She is also the only member from a Girl Group to ever win this award.
Fellow Nevies just remember that opening fan war isn't necessarily, (G)I-DLE was always seen as black horse but in the end they always come up with good stuff.
We know what they are made of, and we just need to put our hands and mind to support them, our Queens !

That 6th member left at a bad time because Tomboy and Nude were huge!
She didn't leave she was kicked out because of school bullying accusations, and was later was proven innocent. Tomboy and Nxde would have been very different had it not happened. The whole scandal and loosing Soojin was clearly a driving force for the group. Cube is a sh*t company, and we are all hoping they will leave Cube in 2 years and rejoin with Soojin.
