    Regarding translations: Yes please! As an I-Nevie I've always suspected that there is a lot missing from the official translations. Guess CUBE is just too cheap to hire good translators.

    • @JoakimFors
      @JoakimFors Год назад +17

      … about the last part: I used to watch a lot of fansubbed anime and the better translations usually included explanations for cultural idioms and nuances. :)

      YES! They literally had no translation for their TITLE TRACK after like 6 hours for Queencard... Just to let gigantic mistakes even I can see and I don't speak a single word of Korean lmao. CUBE is in its own category

    As for how long it took Soyeon confirmed that the recording for Nxde took about 5 days and it was actually their fastest recording for the title track but unfortunately she didn't said how long it took them to record entire mini album

    We (English only speakers) have always suspected that the translations were not very good, but how would we really know? Your "insider" knowledge of Korean language really makes your reactions the most interesting. I suspect that the translation captions "here" are done by CUBE, since this video is a CUBE release. For many songs, that don't have an official video release, we have to look to 3rd party lyric translation videos. Most of those have varied lyric translations. You asked for a song to translate, so I'll pick one that I know is telling a story. "Put it Straight". Also, can I suggest that you listen to the entire song (4 mins) first, then again to point out any translation nuances or mistakes? I think you will like the song... it's quite sad and lovely.

    • @pubsapass1214
      @pubsapass1214 Год назад +1

      Oh yes put it straight is a so deep song, especially the original version.

  • @Vogelkinder
    @Vogelkinder Год назад +17

    They have to maintain modelling, promotions and performance schedules other than recording their parts in the songs, so they slip in sessions here and there, which makes Soyeon's "guide" all the more valauble in preparation and maintaining unity through all five parts over several days of recording sessions. What these sort of vids have shown, however, is how Soyeon writes the member's parts wiuth their own charms and abailities showcased, and she tries to get them to bring their best to the song, and let them shine.

    We have been told that "Woogi" is the Korean name of Yuqi. Woogi is what all of the group members call her.

  • @life8148
    @life8148 Год назад +50

    Oh for Yuqi's name, yes it's pronounced 'yu-chi' in Chinese and it means like rain jade. And apparently Ugi means something like rain in Korean so they just used the translated name instead of using YuQi
    Edit: as an intl fan still learning to read/write hangul, i found it at first strange they didn't use 유치 for YuQi, retaining the Chinese pronunciation like Shuhua's name. Instead it's been 우기 since debut and they did say it's because her name (in chinese) means rain so they just honored the meaning i guess

    • @AmadanMath
      @AmadanMath Год назад +5

      I think it is a personal choice for any Chinese person whether they will keep the meaning or the pronunciation. Yuqi (雨琦) kept the meaning, just reading the Chinese characters of her name in Korean way, just like Yiren of Everglow (怡人), read in Korean as 이런 (Ireon); and both of them kept the pinyin spelling of their name as the official international spelling (though Yiren uses the Mandarin pronunciation when she introduces herself in English, unlike Yuqi who uses the Korean one).
      On the other hand, Shuhua (舒華) chose to keep the pronunciation (슈화, Syuhwa); she'd be pronouncing it as 서화 (Seohwa) if she did what Yuqi did; and same for Kep1er's Xiaoting (小婷, pronounced 샤오팅, Syaoting), who would be 소정 (Sojeong), and Tzuyu (子瑜, pronounced 츠위, Cheuwi) of Twice, whose name would be read 자유 (Jayu) in Korean.
      Only 雨 means rain (and is used in Korean as well). 琦 means jade (and AFAIK not really used in Korean).

      @@AmadanMath yeah i think it's a matter of preference. Some change their name, some don't

    Yo, K-OG, one of the main reasons i like your channel is that you can hear what is actually being said and react to or explain it. As a US fan who's learned a little bit of Hangul I'd love more translation focused content. I could imagine an "Accurate Lyric Video" series doing well for the channel. Thanks for the videos!

    우기 is how her name's hanja is read in Korean. It's normal for Chinese idols to have their korean name based on hanja readings, while their English name is based on the Chinese reading of the characters. Twice Tzuyu is 쯔위, WJSN Cheng Xiao is 성소 etc etc.

    1. For title tracks, they usually take 3 to 5 days to record. They'll redo the things later if they're not satisfied even after okaying the recording previously.
    2. Yuqi's name: Yu-Chi in Chinese & Woo-Gi in Korean.
    3. Not just here in the recording video, Cube's translation is very questionable in their title tracks too. Much of the meaning is lost in the Kr to Eng translation. Say, in Nxde as you pointed out, it should be "the pervert is you" rather than "You've got a dirty mind" & guess what they chose in the Eng lyrics subtitle in Nxde MV? "You've got a dirty mind", LOL!
    4. Shuhua is my bias but among the members including 2 foreign members, she is very weak in the vocal department. Nobody can deny that she improved a lot compared to the debut days but she still lags far behind her members in the vocal part. I think by this time you also noticed that her Korean proficiency level ain't that good compared to Minnie & Yuqi. That creates further problems in delivering what Soyeon demands.

    • @AmadanMath

      The most common reason is including links in comments (or even things that look like links). Sometimes it goes through, but quite often the comment gets culled. I have started just writing titles and authors instead of links after multiple such disappearances. If there was no links, dunno.
