A lovely story and as an endurance karter, I cannot imagine how brutal long drives on questionable roadways must have been. Props to Stan and friends for undertaking this bonkers adventure. Particularly without any funds to deal with the inevitable misadventures along the way.
Stan is a legend. He lived in Germany in later life and was cycling around in his 80s. I met him and had dinner with him and his wife when I was doing some silly cycle trips around Grands Prix. He was so contemptorary in his knowledge. I still want to drive a kart around the world in recognition. We can all learn from his approach to life. Colin, a lovely chap. Only met him once, but a top fellow. We should all do crazy adventures.
