I noticed you haven't posted in over two years. I hope everything is OK? Would love to see you post more video's again as they are quite entertaining 🙂
Leo!! You're back!! You are one of my favourite reviewers. I bought four Pilot CH912s based on your reviews (and Sailors) and have been very happy with them. Please keep the videos coming. Cheers, Steve
@@InquisitiveQuill Yes that may be true Leo, but you are the true Jedi Master of the Montblanc. That Hemingway in your collection is my ultimate grail pen. Cheers, Steve
My pt149, 90th and this expressive can be unscrewed easily. I can't unscrew my elbphilharmonie or homer. It's confusing. I bet if I used a tool for the Homer and Elbphilharmonie once, I would be able to unscrew it by hand after.
Good to see you back! Really enjoyed your gusto in trying to unscrew the nib unit. I have a 149 calligraphy flex nib and after seeing this I tried unscrewing, and it worked! So no need to buy the special tool (I have the tool for the pre-1992(?) Montblanc, but not for the newer ones). Also great to properly clean the barrel.
Looking forward to your comparison vs the 149 and 146 calligraphy nibs. How would you compare it to the 1.3mm 23k palladium nibs on the Homo sapiens? I have one and that is a very soft and springy stub nib that's enjoyable to write with on a good paper.
I have one 23K Pd 1.3 stub and it's really wet. Fun bounce, but so wet some of the line variation is lost. I have asked a friend about his 23K Pd nibs and he said most of his where above average to firehose level of wetness. Makes it a little hard to use on most papers, and on the paper that works, only one side.
Well done Leo.. beautiful pen.. your videos and intro are among the top in my opinion.. Hey, I bought a lovely pad of Medeovallis paper with envelopes.. and wrote on the blotting sheet! Had that same goofy reaction until I realized what I'd done. I'm not much into flex.. but a wet EF.. yes indeed! Best wishes! Frank from Boulder, Colorado, USA
Dr Leo, you’re really spoiling us … your collection is magnificent: how simply marvellous. Sadly I don’t know anyone into “fountain pens” apart from me. I don’t think there are any groups where I live. I’m very shy too. The 149 you show looks really nice. People love hating on MB, but I think they make well made and consistent writers. I have a couple - one that I inherited and one I bought second hand. I don’t think I’ll ever make enough money to buy one of those special ones ... but I can dream! What’s the website? Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for watching! If you don't have a local pen group I hope you can make it to a pen show one day after this is all over. That would be the next best thing. Or join a smaller facebook fountain pen group - like "the inkwell". The expressive can be found here - www.fritz-schimpf.de/en/Writing-instruments/Fountain-pens/Montblanc-x-Fritz-Schimpf-Special-Edition-The-Expressive.html
@@InquisitiveQuill Thank you sir. I never seem to go to Pen Shows, I also don't do Facebook - so looks like I'n screwed. Oh well. Thank you for the link, sir.
The 2019 calligraphy 149 is a soft M. This is a soft italic with very different tipping shape. The 2020 calligraphy is inspired by the naginata nib. All three have the same nib engraving.
@@InquisitiveQuill The second release in their calligraphy line, also called the curved nib (based on their own promotional material), originally scheduled to come out in September 2020, but delayed to 2021 , has a different nib design. Too bad you can't do a side-by-side comparison of their regular calligraphy nib and this expressive nib
Do you have the address of the knock-off body maker? I like the look of ye olde MBs, but I find their marketing practices repulsive. I'm a bit surprised that they're actually attempting to make flex nibs. I didn't think they were that invested in actually writing.

Oh. You are really spoiling us with the vids Leeeeeooo! :)
a video every few weeks seems doable...
Hi. How can we know we have a 149 that can be opened by hands. I gave my 149 for service that they changed the body in 2019. Please help
Please note that my montblanc originally was early 2000s model

What, precisely, distinguishes it from the calligraphy 149? other than packaging? Same nib design and nib tag.

Thank you for the video. I checked out the Expressive online. It’s time to play with my MB Calligraphy to fend off this new pen addiction temptation!
Christmas is coming... 😁
@@InquisitiveQuill 🤔 Hmm…
Nice, Leo. Thanks for sharing.
you really need to do a review on that demonstrator body and tell us the guy you buy them from, thank you
I'll think about it. - there'd be a lot of planning and I'd need to locate a real one.
@@InquisitiveQuill i don't understand, i thought that you own that demonstrator in the video? thank you for responding
@@bieberninja1 I would not be able to do it justice without comparing it to a legitimate Montblanc 149 demonstrator.
@@InquisitiveQuill i've never seen a 149 demonstrator, but there is no need for a comparison, we just want to see the demonstrator you already own
Not sure of the best part of the review: gleeful laugh at nib unit untwisting or Buy Pem! Either way great to have more Leo IQ reviews :-)
Both unexpected in different ways. 😁
Conklin has great customer service, send them a email and they will provide another nib or exchange for another size.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll give that a go. 😊

A friend helped me get it from taobao because they wouldn't ship directly here. That's all I know unfortunately.
