I make my own blended malt, with the few remaining drops from almost empty single malt bottles. Miraculously my blended malt bottle never seems to end, and the flavour is always a surprise.

Excellent! An infinity bottle is always nice to put together. I know some folks who’ve put ones together with bourbons and rye whiskeys, they’ve had great results.

Same here! I have one bottle for scotches and one for American/Canadian whiskies. Really fun experiencing the subtle changes in flavor over the years as I add this or that to the mix.

Ralfy out and about, at first glance I thought it was a small part of Ralfy's stash , lol. Glad that he is bringing awareness to blends, it helps with cost now a days. I still love my single malts, but a well priced blend is easier to sip on without worrying about spending too much. Thanks

Stopped by Royal Mile Whiskies when I was across the pond. (Thank you for that) I was looking for an Old Particular bottling of 10 y/o ardmore aged in Laphroig casks. It was sold out but the gentleman quickly made some recommendations... ended up with a Bramble Whisky Co. Bottling of 12 year ardmore finished in Islay casks from a distillery starting with L... 🤔😁... very excited to crack that bottle open. Congratulations on your recent milestone! Love the content

My first whisky experience was a blend it was with monkey shoulder when it first came out I still have the first bottle think it was 2006/7 or something, I was only 14 years old and it was a great introduction to the world of whisky for me- easy smooth caramel biscuit . I don't really go for many blends but have occasionally bought some over the years. I will definitely be looking into some of those you mentioned so cheers for the info Ralfy man look forward to the upcoming reviews.

I really like this format, Ralfy. My visit to the GSC during my recent holiday in Scotland was a highlight. I left with a cracking bottle, one of their independently bottled single casks. I just wish I could visit this shop more often! I also like our focus o the less well known blends. I am a big fan of blended malts because you can get some great stuff at a really good value. Good luck with the GWF and your sales to the community. You are a treasure to us.

This requires experiencing pricey scotch and then trying to discover the same elements in cheaper blends and such.
Great practice for tuning the pallet and saving the wallet.
It turned out that Sainsburys budget blended cheapo whisky, had some of the finest malts in it for a year or so.

That's definitely the malting. A single grain might be what you would prefer for now. I recommend Invergordon if you can find it where you are. Failing that, if you can find a blended whisky (not blended malt) that will be majority grain whisky.
From there dipping into single malt, you will probably want to find some light bodied floral & fruity highland whisky. Look into some distilleries and find ones which use long necked stills, this prevents much of the heavier, meatier compounds from making it into the distillate.

I sometimes buy a bottle from the shop in Glasgow when I am through. I find them to ne good value and very helpful for a bricks and mkrtar retailer in a city centre location. Funny you start with the Boutiquey Whisky single grain. I ordered a bottle online of their 8yo Canadian corn whisky matured in oloroso casks. Its also a 70cl bottle which is good. I think its low down on the shelf in the world whisky section in this video.

It is due for delivery today funnily enough so haven't tried it yet. I am intrigued as it was only around £35 for a 70cl bottle which is unusual for this indy bottler. I currently have a bottle of Heaven Hill BiB corn whiskey which I really like so thought it was worth a go. I have not seen any reviews of this one anywhere.

When I was reading up there was only Blended Whisky Malt Whisky Single Malt whisky and Grain whisky. 1 Being Malt+Grain 2 Malt blended from any distillery, 3 Single distillery, 4 Almost never sold in my market. Times having changed (alot) I would like to know the current league table. I had a very heated discussion with some people who worked at the swedish alcohol monopoly about what blended whisky really is a long time ago and they assured me that it's absolutely not a blend of malt and grain whiskies. They were also throwing the term vatted malt around, what is that?
