    Morning! 1:17 I think it's going to be cheaper since it's an experimental aircraft. Therefore, you have more flexibility replacing parts in comparison to a certified aircraft. I'm far from being an expert, but I guess the total might be somewhere around 15 to 20k-ish. Can't wait to watch the episode till the end and find out! Have a great weekend everyone! 🙌🏼✨

    Jason, come on. The 'issues' with this aircraft are very minor for the average 'experimental' ultralight owner. Quite frankly anyone who buys an aircraft like this and gives it to a qualified mechanic to do the work is crazy and just looking to have their pockets emptied. A mechanically competent owner would have it sorted in a couple of week-ends for not a lot of money. 2-strokes do NOT 'wear themselves out'. The Rotax recommended TBO is 300 hours. In fact you run them 'on condition'. Many such engines used for training go to 500-600 hours. It's horses for courses. You really need to talk to the right people for each type of aircraft.

    You have to tidy the wiring and fix the interference issues, secure the fasteners, etc., no matter what you do to the power. So fix it and run it up, run around the airport in a tight pattern a few times. THEN do the engine and avionics. You'll have a comparison. If not that, get a local KF owner to let you fly their 2-stroke as a comparison to your upgraded one 🙃

    Looks like a neat project! The Aeromarine engine option looks intriguing; I've not heard of that one before; how does it compare, weight-wise, w/ the Rotax 912UL (80HP) (probably, the Rotax would be much more expensive as well)? Too bad HKS gave up on the turbo "700T" (80HP, two-cylinder, FI, four-stroke, 720cc, IIRC); the "700E" was a nice little engine, but only 60HP and carbureted. I don't have lots of experience, but a KitFox would be on my shortlist of kit-planes to buy. You've probably seen the STOL Drag Race competition at Reno from this past week; some of those folks take "EXPERIMENTAL" to whole new levels (anything from modified C-180s to Steve Henry's 400HP Yamaha 998-powered "Yeehaw 8")!

      The aeromarine installation looks like a nice option, BUT how heavy is the installation? You lose about 3 ft/min climb per pound. If I remember correctly, the gross weight on a model1 is 900 lbs. Check the weights of EVERYTHING you are thinking of changing. The airplane is a lot of fun to fly. Solo, mine would take off and land in less than 75 ft NORMAL LANDING on grass. Again think really hard about adding weight!
      As to the rubbed off paint on the flaperon pushrod, this is likely due to not folding the wings back carefully! Or during transportation... not the flying configuration. The efficiency of the wood prop is terrible, go with the IVO, or similar ground adjustable.

  • @BillyButtry
    @BillyButtry Год назад +1

    I think you got a good deal. I wonder how much that v twin will affect the weight and balance? I take it the covering is in good shape. I don't know if i like folding wings I am sure they are fine just something else to worry about. I think you might wanna change out all the wiring refresh it completely. That is what my friend David Adams done to his long easy good thing he did cause there was a short that he did not see till he started rewiring it and that wire went to the fuel tanks pump.

I just wonder if they might miss the revenue from UL/LSA-X and decide to go with a four-stroke two-cylinder engine like the one's just now coming on the market. It could also be that they are content with focusing on their four-cylinder opposed certified engine clientele too. Either way, I like what I'm seeing with the V-twin four-stroke engines being adapted for the UL market. I have my eye on the Merline Lite, but I'm still not sold on the Polini. Areomarine has the Can Am V-twin they adapted for the Merlin, but it just misses making weight for the Part 103 Merline Lite. Darn.

    Should be a fun plane to fly. I’d like to find one in project form, I kind of have the project disease though! lol

    Pretty Kewl, I tol' Ya that those "Bomb's" were Kewl.
    the company home base is down in Florida, and the owner also owns the Searay (or Aventura) Seaplane (I don't remember which one it is, but They've had them Mounted on a Strut for their Seaplane.
    on the Back end, is a little tiny Wind Generator, as the battery only holds a one hour charge

    Has the parachute gone because it was used?? Looking at the landing gear I would fit one again. 😂😂

    It’s a liquid to air heat exchanger, Shirley? The liquid is taking the heat from the engine, into the radiator and the air is taking the heat from the radiator fins.

    Can't imagine needing a parachute in a kitfox (well maybe this one) Unless you lose a wing or landing gear or the tail, you can pretty much land this thing anywhere, Find a football stadium and you are golden, hell you can probably land sideway in football stadium.

    It sounds like you picked up a pretty fun little airplane. Definitely go with the V Twin and carbon fiber prop. That would be super cool! That weathered wood prop is a bit scary. You guys should have this one in the air in no time.
    Good luck!

    Really cool meeting you in OshKosh! Thanks for pic together. This is for everyone out there, Rotax engines run at a higher internal temp. You MUST use the right oil per manufacturer specs, not just any 2stroke oil. Bombardier recommends API-TC for a reason.

    • @JimBronson
      @JimBronson Год назад +1

      Eh, they said the same thing about my jetskis back in the day, had a 583cc and a 787cc Seadoo. Dire warnings if you don't use Rotax's oil that cost $50 a gallon at the SeaDoo dealer, you're going to have problems. I switched to using full synthetic TC-W3 immediate after warranty and they were still running fine after almost 15 years with many hard weekends at the lake, at the time I sold them. Never rebuilt either ski's engine and we would run 3 tanks of gas or more through them every weekend we had them out on the lake.
      My personal opinion is that Rotax is only trying to sell their branded oil. There's nothing especially unique about these engines compared to other two strokes. I don't know what temperature the theromostat runs on Rotax engines in non-watersports applications, but in a watersport application, your water temp at the inlet is the lake water temp.

      That oil he used is Klotz Benol BC-172. It is rated S.A. racing only. I use it for everything I have that does not take injection oil. It's what I have used for years in racing Karts (Yamaha KT 100 engines.) And my RD354. It is Castor based and will separate in cold weather. SP-1 Spectro is probably better or A Rotax factory recommended oil from Castrol. (Usually.)
