Grimmel was not the original person to come up with and successfully chemically control dragons. On his journey another person provided him with what he needed to take control of any dragon he desired and today I’m going to explain who she was and how Grimmel expanded on her ideas to create an army of obedient puppets.
I post every Tuesday and Thursday, so check back then for more Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, Star Wars and movie videos! If you have any questions about the Disney universe that you would want answered in a video, please ask away in the comment section!

Didn't realize Grimmel's hatred for dragons went that deep, that he'd go to such lengths to eradicate the whole species. Good one Isaac. Also, see if you can do Hiccup's full story, as well as about Valka. Those two will be interesting indeed.
Yes. (Sorry I'm late)
Grimmel's hatred for dragons really brought me back to Httyd 2, really made me think about Drago's tragedy and I really wanted the idea of good people under bad cercumstances do bad things to be explored.
*(Nothing I say is meant to be taken as "Grimmel is good". I'm only stating a my thoughts.😊😊)*
I want to bring attention to the fact that people that fight dragons can be evil, but how often do we think "well, all the Berkians did something similar. So why are trappers undeserving of forgiveness of their ignorance, and registration for their *almost* noble motive." I think the villains should be empathized with just a little bc even if what their doing is wrong, but people like Stoick will just want the fighting to end and will also seek out and fight dragons to eliminate the threat to his village that he loves.
So should this "greedy humans always find a way" and "Men that fight 'without reason' cant be reasoned with" mess really drive us to think they are irredeemable monsters through and through? Berk was very much like them once and they changed.
(Sorry this was long...)😊
It's fitting that Grimmel is Hiccup's final adversary: He is literally his dark mirror.
-Both are physically unimpressive, yet intellectually gifted people who were regarded as the runts of their villages and shot down a Night Fury. Grimmel decided to kill it and became the most famous dragon killer, Hiccup decided to bond with it and became the most famous dragon protector. Grimmel is repulsed by dragons and humans coexisting, Hiccup embraces the possibility of dragons and humans coexisting. Grimmel is loyal only to himself and has his Deathgrippers drugged into obedience, Hiccup is loyal to his loved ones and Toothless cooperates with him willingly.
@@chaghataikhan7488 The quote speaks for the actions both Drago and Grimmel committed. Not everyone will change like Berk and that's just the reality.
tbh hiccup isn’t that bad physically as in the last episode of race to the edge he manages to knock down johan with a floor kick or something idk the name of it plus he managed to knock out snotlout in season 2 ep 6
My strongest memory of this film will always be... when the screen faded to black at the end of a scene, and then suddenly Grimmel was pouring poison into a vial...a little girl in the theatre broke into tears and had an absolute fit, I couldn't understand any dialog until her parents got her to quiet down. (she was almost at the front, and we were almost at the back) What a loud kid!
As much as it annoyed me and I wanted to complain, this is what you have to tolerate when you go to a public theatre, and especially a 'kid's movie'. But I really hope people could be more aware of their impact on other people... (I'm not saying this about the kid who overreacted, she was just a child and probably couldn't help herself, but I do wish I could have heard all the dialog in that scene...)
Woah.
(Sorry I'm late commenting).
Speaking of frustrations, the only problem I had with the Hidden World was that they never got into Drago's tragedy. They didn't explore the idea that good people in bad cercumstances do evil, and to me bc ppl like Stoick had noble motivation, it could've added layers to the story.

Oooo It's been a while since I've seen a How to Train your dragon video
😄 And you wanna know the funniest thing about this whole video?? Is that Watson did such a good job, and it's not even cannon.
The canon backstory is lost in old sites on the web, but I know it.
It's honestly disappointing that Grimmel has lots of misconceptions around him, & there are so many weird/hateful assumptions about him.🥺🥺
*(Nothing I say is not meant to be taken as "Grimmel is good". I'm only stating a few fun facts.😊😊)*
If this is too long, 'grimmelsgirl' on Tumblr & 'swangrizly' on Insta hav the story fleshed out on their feeds.
His story went w/ the tradition of the other movies, & the source of conflict being understandable. But I guess Grimmel's purpose wasn't to hav us feel bad for him.😊😊
I read that Grimmel wanted to eliminate the threat, & he *did in fact* care about human kind.🥺 He loved the ppl around him enough he just hated the dragons that appeared to hurt them. It seems a bit pitiful, but his past was full of lose, fear, & destruction. It wasn't all ego. I guess, tough love,😊😊 & doing wrong things 4 understandable reasons. His opinion has evidence, it just isn't perfect. I don't see Grimmel as stupid, just misguided, similarly to Stoick.
(Not that G is Stoick😋, but to say it's not bad to hav a different *opinion* ).
Also, he didn't just go around walking on/betraying ppl. He had som honor, he just doesn't care if #1) they betray/disrespect him first, & #2) if they were a treat to him trying to help ppl.
Details on his story could've added to his purpose, & the decision that both mankind & dragons are better not harming each other.😊
(Sorry this was long...)😊
I'm not saying Grimmel's right, but that he's not dumb.
No matter. A villains a villain, & despite him wanting to make "a better world" it was still "misguided passion". Still tragic, tho.

Griselda Grievous. I think I heard that too, but are you sure it wasn't a fan written work?🤔🤔 From what I remember the very consent of Grimmel was designed to be pure evil. Which even for me is disappointing.
I guess these kinds of fan works/rumors were meant to bring attention to the idea that some villains like Drago appeared to be tragic and a little reasonable. Yes Drago got drunk on power, but his primary motive is kinda noble. And arguable something that Stoick as portrayed in Httyd 1 would do.
Long story short, your story has a good point, but that ain't it, chief.
I have always found Grimmel to be the the most dangerous and most cruel Dragon Hunter Villain in the "How To Train Your Dragon" franchise.
I agree

Everyone wants a backstory for Grimmel or Drago, but I really want a backstory for Viggo. He doesn't get enough recognition, plus his story just kind felt incomplete.
Like?? There could be so much more to him. How did he become cheif? He was the younger sibling, after all.
Also, does anyone else feel like they had no reason to kill him off? I would've loved to see him in the third movie, though he probably wasn't added in because the movie would probably take a darker path lol. Viggo's kind of a bitch, as we saw in the seasons be was in
I miss httyd but, they did end it perfectly
I agree. (Sorry I'm late)
They ended at a good place aside from all the opportunities to expand on the idea of tragic characters and why they fight dragons.

ive re watched it like 4 times
@Chaghatai Khan Except Berk fought with dragons for legitimate reasons at first. Drago didn't and certainly Grimmel by the end of it.
It was just drago's corruption against dragons to control the ones who follow them.
Maybe not corruption. But I see what you're saying. I mean, he lived a life that would scar any1. A merciless, danger filled life is the only1 he knows,& determination is what helped him survive. If he thinks of dragons as he does, he must believe any1 preserving them wants destruction.
Also, most people in the world were victims2 dragons, so many probably wanted2 unite w/ him 2 have allies, &eventually chase the dragons out. He represents this worldwide view,& him wanting to "rule the world" was never conformed. The world would revolt if he was the only man that wanted to control the chaos, just as he said. Too, using dragons to 1s advantage is probably helpful (whether you're kind or evil). And every1 did deside in the end that man& dragon were safer apart anyway.
It's just a thot.
Drago is evil, but I agree that that's a good point.
I don't get why they tried to make Grimmel a butt if he shipped this "anti hero" stuff. I was one of the people that was hoping Grimmel would be as cool as he was made out to be, like a Dragon hunter version of Count Dooku, who had a chance to let people like Drago be better explained. Now it's up to fan theorists to introduce that Grimmel isn't ENTIRELY evil.
Agreed. (Sorry I'm late).
It's a little disappointing that the villains has so much hate and misconceptions around them.

Grimmel looks like a combination of Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pitch Black from Rise of the Guardians
Well I agree but he's kinda incompetent in the middle of the story not really a great master manipulator like them
I have two topics that you maybe want to talk about. The first one being that it is impossible to know that Toothless is the last night fury. I only see him as the last KNOWN night fury. The second topic that you maybe could/ want to talk about is related to the night light. This I learned from my biology teacher, but with real animals and just took it to the night light “situation”. Hear me out: the night and light fury’s were once one species. But something must have separated them from one another to make them become what they are “now”. This is the reason Toothless could mate with the light fury, because they have similar mating periods and mating calls/ bonding. But since they actually are two different species now. This makes the night light sterile (not being fertile/ not being able to produce their own offspring). Am I the only one to know this information😅
Awesome. (Sorry I'm late).

Sorry I'm late but love it
Oof I'm early? What is this sorcery!?
Love your profile picture.
It's also a little disappointing that Grimmel has lots of misconceptions around him, & there are so many weird/hateful assumptions about him.🥺🥺 Many making it into this video
*(Nothing I say is not meant to be taken as "Grimmel is good". I'm only stating a few fun facts.😊😊)*
If this is too long, 'grimmelsgirl' on Tumblr & 'swangrizly' on Insta hav the story fleshed out on their feeds.
His story was made, & even went w/ the tradition of the other movies, & the source of conflict being understandable. But I guess Grimmel's purpose in the story wasn't to hav us feel bad for him. Maybe none of his story was relevant, aside from the fact that during his study he happened to never see dragons' good side.🥺
In short, I read that Grimmel wanted to eliminate the threat, b'coz every1 he knew, & wat they endured solidified his beliefs of dragons being dangerous. He even had friends revealing the might & wonder in ppl that he wanted to survive.😥 He loved the ppl around him enough he just hated the thing that appeared to hurt them. It seems a bit pitiful, but really, his past was the usual lose, fear, & destruction. It wasn't all ego, & he just happened to never find a reason to care about dragons. He went from potentially good to determined, & unapologetic. He cared about ppl a lot mor than I imagined, just also being mean.😊
The truth is, he was doing wrong things 4 understandable reasons. Same way previous sources of conflict did.🤔 G had reason & knew why he was a hunter, & didn't need justification b'coz his truth has evidence, it just isn't perfect. Ppl don't usually believe somthing strongly to be stubborn/ hears their polar opposite belief & role w/ it, so I don't see G as stupid, just misguided, similarly to Stoick.
Details on his story could've helped. I think it could've added to his purpose, his view, & the decision that both mankind & dragons are better not harming each other.😊
(Sorry this was long...)😊
I'm not saying Grimmel's right, but that he's not dumb.
No matter. A villains a villain, & despite him wanting to make "a better world" it was still "misguided passion". Still tragic, tho.
If Bing Bong had to be forgotten.. imagine what Riley's Toys most be going through. Maybe sense they live independently. They can go off on their own. That's issues that wasn't addressed if toys can just go on their own without humans maybe that might plot in next Story. .and I Pixar shared universe why wasn't Mur Du a skeleton. . If the after life is skeletons.
That would be good. (Sorry I'm late).
I'd also like one about why Trappers do what they do and how they might not be that bad.
The only problem I had with the Hidden World was that they never got into Drago's tragedy. They didn't explore the idea that good people in bad cercumstances do evil, just by tweeking Grimmels characterization, and changing the pointless "when I was a boy" and "your father knew of me" scenes to say something aside from "yeah, I evil."🙄 To me, ppl like Stoick had noble motivation, it could've added layers to the story.
Obviously, some people that fight dragons can be evil, but how often do we think "well, all the Berkians did something similar.

Also I'd like a 2.0 of this one just bc a topic often neglected in the Httyd community is Drago's tragic backstory and how that might partially explain why dragon trappers fight and how they might not be so evil.

I saw this movie recently and something just didnt make sense.
Hicupp has a flashback about Stoic and he remeber stoic talking about peace with the dragons... when he was a little boy.... makes no sense to me. Stoic being a dragon hunter since Valka left Berk and even before.
Can someone explain?
@Wotso Videos what do you think?
Zayu Kiroboshi Stoic was talking about killing all dragon kind.
I think it was because he just wanted to stop the bloodshed. Getting rid of the dragons meant clearing away the most deadly threat that was happening on the island at that point.
Zayu Kiroboshi Stoick doesn’t actually want the peace that you’re thinking, he wanted to kill them. Hiccup was just a child when it was talked about, so Stoick had to be kid friendly. That’s all it was.
Some ppl wish Grimmel had flashbacks in the intro just so we could have a better idea of his character, and it really would've helped in my opinion. It's a little disappointing that Grimmel has lots of misconceptions around him b'coz of little understanding of who he is, & there are so many weird/hateful assumptions about him.🥺🥺

Because it was more fun to wipe out a species
Coz he wants to kill ALL night fury

I will never watch How To Train Your Dragon 3 again... It was so emotional.
My mom hasn't seen it and refuses to watch it because she already knows it's emotional.
@@KeeperOfUntoldDreams I mean, she should watch it at least once before never watching it again. Does she really like the HTTYD franchise?

He is the reminder of what he could have been if he killed Toothless the first moment they met.
Yeah.

After watching the Hidden World I'm disappointed with how Grimmel died especially compared to how other HTTYD antagonists and antagonists in general have died, like they build him up as this despicable villain who attempted to committ mass Dragon genocide and a genius schemer... then he just goes splash in the water.
What I think they should have done is have him get eaten by his own dragons
@@nightsedge1993 that's what I was thinking! it could've been similar to Scar's death in The Lion King.
Yeah like the venom stops working and he just stands there yelling orders at them then they just attack him
@@nightsedge1993 Maybe like how the hyenas turned on scar and killed him(lion king)
@@nightsedge1993 Oof! I think that might have been a bit much for the little kids that the movie was meant for. I'm not saying Grimmel's right, but that he's not dumb.
No matter. A villains a villain, & despite him wanting to make "a better world" it was still "misguided passion". Still tragic, tho.
Well his dragon of course he make an poison or potion with the dragons poison and he van controll dragons and hes the nightfury killer and hunter
Do a video about Cinderella stepsisters playing on jakku father what was he like was he good to his daughters was he good to their mother was he crying to his daughters there's no there's so much that I want to know there's so many things I want to know what were the Disney moms for the Disney Princesses were like I want to know how did they became the famous Disney Princesses we get to know and love and I want to know what was Cinderella's stepsisters biological father was like there's something there's always a question that I want an answer
Cool suggestion.
I would like a 2.0 of this just b'coz of the half truths & lots of misconceptions around Grimmel that made it in the video. (No offence to his hard, good work.😊😊 It's just the Fandom that 4 som reason can't get it right). B'coz of little understanding of who he is, & there are so many odd assumptions about him.🥺🥺
*(Nothing I say is not meant to be taken as "Grimmel is good".
Details on his story could've helped. I think it could've added to his purpose, his view, & the decision that both mankind & dragons are better not harming each other.😊

I always felt Grimmel was more of a secondary antagonist than a main antagonist.
Me too but what makes him overreaching antagonist is how he killed all the night furies species but sadly the story doesn't really shown him impact the whole franchise

Very interesting.
Grimmel is the child of Pitch Black and a random chick with normal skin. 030 I cant stop seeing pitch black in him. im rewatching Rise of the Guardians and the HTTYD again.
Yep lol
Imagine this
Hiccup hears of a new Dragon that is said to be the size of a mountain and has golden armored scales and causes storms where ever it flies. Its name is Ghidorah. Elsewhere a group of vikings going ice fishing find a large ice berg and see something in it and like idiots they blow it up but out of the ice come a large tail with barbs at the end then another tail followed by a head which is is followed by another and another! Ghidorah frees himself and takes to the sky but not before killing the vikings who freed him!
HE flies to and destroys New Berk before heading to the hidden world to challenge Toothless and wins! As Toothless lay wounded and weakened, the new alpha flies up to a high spot and lets out an ear piercing screech that places all other dragons under his control and awakens all dragons world wide!
How will our heroes face such a beast?
Wow very cool concept!
@@IsaacCarlson Despite belonging to different universes, Grimmel can be seen as the human counterpart of Ghidorah.
Ah yes the person who created mind control for dragons: 1:14
She does not look intimidating at all💀
Isn't Eir said like air? *Referenced from GW2's Eir*
