dcrediah It's a well known secret that he rotates screenshots of Double Dungeon's environments as wallpaper for his cell phone. He loves all the variation of the game's lush environments.
Buddy, I’m right there with you! Getting older sucks, things start malfunctioning, BUT.....I’m proud to be my age! Some of my friends didn’t make it. Like Indiana Jones said,” Its not the age, its the mileage..”
hey I'm an optometrist and loved the story about your reading glasses. I see patients every day who are in the same boat and find it difficult to accept the need for reading glasses in their 40s or so. No-one wants to feel like they're getting old and It's amazing to see the positivity you painted it in and the joy it brought you! Keep up the amazing videos!
I'm an optician and dude most people don't want glasses for the same reason your not alone. I said the same things you did before I started wearing them last year. A whole new world! One of my favorite channels you rock!
This is probably my favourite channel at the moment because youre so fun to listen to. I can watch your stuff from 4 years ago and it doesn't date because of your awesome attitude and honesty. It's like listening to a friend. Great work!
I'm selfishly kinda glad you admitted the glasses, it makes me feel better about being 41 and eyesight not what it was! getting older is something everyone hopefully gets the chance too do and we should be happy we have the chance i guess.
I dunno if this is a sensitive topic or not, or if you've already discussed it, but it'd be interesting to hear about your film school/early art experiences, and what became of all that. You alude to it all quite a bit. I'm in film school right now, and illustrate alot in my free time, so it'd be great to hear about that kind of thing.
Mad props for using the xenogears music in the background. I've always acknowledged that glasses will always be a permanent part of my life. Even to this day, I still get a little bit of grief that I wear my prescription sunglasses 50% of the time especially at night and its just because my eyes have an ultra-sensitivity to light and some days i can wear my regular glasses and other days I can't wear nothing but my prescription sunglasses. I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for the 80's cartoon series. It is probably the most important cartoon from my childhood, its not my favourite cartoon but its definitely the most important. I owned a few transformers as a kid, but as I've gotten older I really dedicated myself to owning every variation of my favourite transformer growing up which was Jetfire so i really went above and beyond to collect as many variation of Jetfire as I could because I don't have a lot of space these days so if i was going to collect transformers - I was going to collect my favourite transformer of all time.
When I first watched your video, I was amazed by how passionate you are and you have this positive aura. Then when I was about to click your name to check your channel for more videos, I read your username and was like, "oh... it suits him really well". :D I can relate with the glasses thing. I never thought I needed glasses. When my mother opt to buy a new pair, I got myself checked and bought one too. Then it was amazing how bright the world is from my new set of glasses. I knew that I couldn't see people's faces clearly from afar... but thought I never needed one. I don't always wear it, but I try to. Specially when I watch a movie in cinemas. Love your work on Blood Bowl. Looks awesome. And the comics, that was something! Just amazing :) Great video :)
I also love the Transformers. Even at 40, I enjoy how much more detail and intricacy they build into the transformations these days. I also had Hero Quest in the mid 90's!
It's funny that you were so ashamed to admit you wear glasses because it never would have mattered to me as I used to be as blind as a bat for most of my life. Got my eyes lasered 7 years ago, best decision of my life and highly recommend. My eyes went from both being -10 to one being 20/15 and the other 20/20, 20/15 is a step better than 20/20 for people that don't know, huge life change.
totally understand what you mean with the painting miniatures, really therapeutic. ive been painting warhammer quest silver tower a while now. its taken a long time but with great results got back into the hobby after like 15 years
About 5 years ago I discovered and fell in love with modern board gaming. Something about disconnecting and just interacting with someone directly and in person is something I really crave the older I get (I just turned 42). If you find yourself getting burned out on digital, take a look at what's available in tabletop gaming. It really is amazing.
Love the Transformers reveal! I'm 40 and lived through that era. Also I wear glasses as well, but a bit more like Kim, I need them for everything. Great video :)
I could have written that comment haha same here. The old style Transformers really takes me back. That was kinda my thing back then, a bit more so than He-man and G.I Joe which I was also nuts about. I don't collect figures at all but the ones Johnny has here are really tempting, classic!
Awesome! painting figurines is pretty badass. My older brother used to do this and I was always fascinated by it. I'm an artist myself, I should really give it a try. That hobby really reminds me of him and I kinda miss him now that he's living away. He was a HUGE influence on me, got me into Heavey Metal, playing guitar, table top gaming, Lovecraft mythos. All stuff that has defined me and that's really dear to my heart. Also this vid kinda made me realise that I should spend more time on my hobbies, and less time fucking about online... I could read tons of books and rekindle with some of my passions like drawing, if I would force me away from my monitor. At least I just started a D&D campaign with some buddies(including childhood friends), so that's a good start.
It's fun you're into miniature painting! I also got into miniature painting about 2 years ago (at age 35). I always wanted to do it as a kid but could not afford, and was a terrible artist to boot. Now I'm painting up Kingdom Death: Monster with a group that meets weekly to play, and also painting up Corvus Belli Infinity sci-fi models for tabletop war gaming!
That's amazing that you were able to paint the Blood Bowl minis so quickly! I painted the minis for Space Hulk 3rd edition and it took me months and months. I didn't work on them every day though.
Hi Johnny! 29 years old gamer here. I have absolutely opposite thing. I can see things close to me, but have blurry sight on further items. Nothing that makes me angry, but I switched to PC monitor, even hooked PS4 there, and got into handheld gaming because of that. I have trouble reading text on TV if I am in like 2-3 meters away from it, I can read it, but that makes me so tired and exhausted in less than an hour, and I never admitted that I have sight issues because it makes me feel old. Once I gave up on it and got glasses, I can see things on huge TV again and even read text there. Damn, some games are so beautiful on big screen! I samewhat know what you mean here and I am glad that you shared this.
Just started this video. And because of this there is now my mother buying me some cheap reading glasses at my request whilst she's in town. I wondered why I couldn't play Switch games handheld and I've been going through around 3 books a week on Audible as I keep getting tired and sleeping when I read. I even got a Kindle Paperwhite (beautiful piece of tech still) but I get tired. Wow, so true that you can deny yourself as you don't want to acknowledge age (I'm 43). Anyway, I'm a newish viewer and Jonny you may have already helped me change things for the better in my life lol. I mean, I got Luigi's Mansion today and have only played 30 mins for heavens sake!!!!! Cheers from Ireland!
I had a very similar experience with Space Hulk. Always wanted it as a kid but I could never afford it. I got a copy for Christmas and had a blast painting the minis. It is a very calming thing to do.
Same here, when I turned 40 I couldn't see my DS lite screen that well. Got readers and beat zero mission overnight during the last hurricane here in Florida
Johnny, you just saved my ability to read & enjoy books. I normally wear glasses for screen use / long computer sessions but never once thought to try them for the average physical reading time.. It's night and day. Thank you man. You rock. :)
Sometimes it can be a curse to have so many interests! That's the way it is with me. Not enough free time. I love toys and dolls and got into video games through using and learning computers in the 1980s. Now, video games are an important stress relief in my life. I have always loved the art in them and the great music. Thanks for sharing, John!
Transformers and GI Joe is how I learned how to draw people and got really big into art then, and now even. I collected a few choice Transformers because of my memories, but I will always cherish my TF memories and the Movie. I saw that in theaters and wow! Was it awesome! Still is. My fave TF is Tracks and Side Swipe. My fave movie of all time is Tron. I never grow tired of watching that gem, and The Black Hole (Disney). Thanks, Johnny for all the great memories (and secrets!)
Its the little things I've noticed as I have gotten older. I will be 40 next year. Over the last two years I need naps. As a kid I didn't take naps. Also waking up having to stretch. I can't play games for long periods of time like I use to. (I get tired) lol
Great hearing about your passion for Transformers :) I think it's a series that still hold up strong to today & I loved playing with the toys as a kid with my brother. I have a small collection of the toys of my very favs & got some of the Takara reissues about 10 years ago & I love watching the DVD set now & then & have an Autobot sticker on my car ;)
No secrets to be ashamed of or be embarrassed about at all. I enjoyed it very much and i can relate as a fellow artist and on other levels as well. If you wanna share more of these secrets i am happy to hear more about it :)
Aw man I feel you so much... Emotions should be in everything we do. Awesome paint job by the way ! It reminds me of my childhood (not that I was ever good at painting GW miniatures, lol). :)
When you said that you didn’t read as much anymore , I instantly knew. Same thing happened to me , about the same time as it did to you , Johnny. Nowadays , I’m back on the reading track again. My advice : accept-adjust-adapt. Take full advantage of the fact that you know now , get the ugliest glasses possible and play/read all you want.
It's funny because I also did the same thing, 2 years ago I started playing Warhammer but ended up having more fun painting them I must have painted over 25 miniatures total. I stopped because gaming and other things I do take up too much of my time. I also realized after getting frequent headaches from playing games that I needed glasses lol. But in the end I may have more than one hobbies, gaming will always be my No.1.
It's the same for BotH , Johnny . We may have been the generation that had cool toys but it's this generation that has screen accurate toys. MAN AT ARMS now actually looks like MAN AT ARMS.
Love the Hero Quest , all that stuff blew up in England in about 90/91 and me and all my mates loved it. Space Hulk and advanced Hero Quest . Playing rave tapes and painting minatures . Awesome days.
hi there! i just want to say that i had the same experience with the need for glasses.... for several years my reading and gaming was declining untill i needed to go tho work health consult and they told me i needed glasses and now i'm back on the game =)
I can relate to your experience regarding drawing or art being theraputic since im an artist as well. I love to draw prestigious people like actors or action stars and after the drawing session, I go outside to breath some fresh air then go back to play video games or finish my drawing. Currently im playing God of war second playthrough. By the way, im 43.
Can completely relate about the glasses, I've had perfect vision all of my life but nearing 30 now I noticed it's been harder for me to play a lot of text based games or handhelds the last year or so and that was the reason why for me as well.
same story happened with me. had trouble reading back of a soda can and an older friend walking by said, here try these, and sure enough.. is like i went from 240p blurry to 4k lol. feels bad getting old.
Though some people out there are crazy, yes, some people might have looked at your ring being gone because they are genuinely worried and care about you. They like that you're the Happy Console Gamer and want you to be happy. Most of us just want the best for you.
rock solid I would love a remastered version of it in pixel form. It’s a bit hard to look at graphics wise. It’s the deepest rpg I’ve played of that era.
I kinda relate to the first one but for me it's a little different. I generally don't have any trouble seeing but if I play something handheld, I get smeared vision that sticks around for a few hours. Never used to happen until this year.
I'm close to Johnny's age. My hair has been very slowly graying since my college years (over a period of 20 years). It's still mostly dark, so I had not gone into panic over it. This year, I've found myself not always being able to read books and tablets (blurred vision). I've known I'm not a "kid" for quite a while, but yeah, I need glasses for reading now............ Here is a tip to some of us older gamers: If you ever find yourself not being able to read the instructions or the ingredients on a medicine bottle and don't have your glasses around, use your cellphone's camera to zoom in.
My childhood was deeply marked by G1 Transformers too, last year I got into collecting the US versions of those with my kids, the combiner wars/titans return/power of the primes series, they blow the G1 toys out of the water for sure!
I think it’s easier on the ego for people who always needed glasses. For people like us who never needed them, needing them feels like admitting that you’re falling apart.
Totally understand you on the Transformers. I love the Masterpiece series so I told myself I'm only collecting the Original Ark Crew and the new ones introduced in the Animated move.
Omg! Turns out I need reading glasses too! My eyes feel much more relaxed when I wear them. I look forward to reading and playing games with them on. Thanks Johnny!
I love Transformers too! Picked up a boxed G1 Omega Supreme figure at a garage sale for $2 a couple summers ago. Amazing find. I’ll have to look into collecting those Japanese figures!
Is this xenogear song in battle? Love it and I’m so happy to like Warhammer- it really makes you feel so happy when you paint I’ve been looking for answers in my life and you’ve been helping me out with your voice even though you don’t even know me. I’m gonna be 31 years old and we have a lot things that are similar from your stories
Awesome vid as usual, and so awesome you finally revealed the glasses secret! Nothing wrong at all with them, I wore them for 6 years as a kid, but stopped for years, now I have to again, can see up close good, but far away, hell no hahaha
I had a similar experience. Didn’t get glasses until I was 26 and then it blew my mind how much better I could see street signs while driving. They were blurry before but I blamed it more on poor street lighting than my actual eyes 👀
The 3DS slowly gets further and further away from your face....until your arms are pretty stretched out in order to see. It happens gradually, but I realized it when my kid stuck her 3DS in my face and says, “Dad I’m stuck, can you help me?” She was holding it about 18 inches in front of my face, and talking about where she was in the game.....and I couldn’t see it at all!! I kept backing my head up trying to focus. Then I started realizing that my near-sight was going fast. Turning forty sucks. Can’t see up close, can not stay awake between 2-4pm unless working, and my hip hurts EVERY morning. I still look young, but I’m feeling it....for sure!
You know Johnny, as someone who has been wearing glasses since I was 4 (I'm 36) and hated them for half his life, I can tell you one thing: glasses to me stopped being a "burden" and being embarrassing when I finally got my own money and started treating glasses like a fashion accessory rather than something shameful.
Thanks for this video. I have had glasses my entire life and past that. I am 41 soon to be 42 and now struggling with reading etc. Same deal now not enjoying anything close up hand held gaming etc. Although I have had glasses doc says bi focals and or dedicated reading glasses needed requiring I go back and forth. End of day I feel the pain as its a sign age catching up... After watching your video glad someone else my age in same boat. Also Transformers do rock.. Haha...
Funny story from my youth! Every year my grandparents would give Christmas money to my brother, two step brothers and myself. The year the Transformers first came out we all took our money and bought as mush as we could and had about 90% of all of them. The next year way the year that the NES came out, and I took my money and bought 99% of all there Transformers, so they could buy the NES games. Yes I played all the NES games that they bought, but to this day I have all of those Transformers! lol
HeroQuest!! Awesome! I own that along with all the expansions and have all the miniatures painted. I know what you mean when you talked about painting miniatures, hours and hours of work and fun. I also have shelf of transformers. Great video.
If you're interested in getting into Warhammer Fantasy or Warhammer 40k you can get a specific box of miniatures of the race you find coolest for the Canadian equivalent of £50. They're called Start Collecting boxes. You can also get starter sets for the games that can run you from £50 to £90 and have enough miniatures for 2 people.
Very cool video. I am jealous. I tried for years to paint miniatures, but I just couldn't do it. My skill level just never progressed. I tried again a few years ago, and just didn't have success. My hands have some minor arthritis, so it makes it so hard to do.
Now Johnny, show us your true secret. Your Dynamite Dux tramp stamp
dcrediah It's a well known secret that he rotates screenshots of Double Dungeon's environments as wallpaper for his cell phone. He loves all the variation of the game's lush environments.
Haha you win!
No it’s a Buckaroo Bonzai Tramp Stamp
instaBlaster...
He wears glasses? I'm unsubscribing
Yeah, how uncool...
Buddy, I’m right there with you! Getting older sucks, things start malfunctioning, BUT.....I’m proud to be my age! Some of my friends didn’t make it. Like Indiana Jones said,” Its not the age, its the mileage..”

Those glasses are too academic, John, too academic.

You should do a top 10 favorite books
hell yeah!
As long as The Stand is number one, followed closely by Swan Song.
totally understand what you mean with the painting miniatures, really therapeutic. ive been painting warhammer quest silver tower a while now. its taken a long time but with great results got back into the hobby after like 15 years
About 5 years ago I discovered and fell in love with modern board gaming. Something about disconnecting and just interacting with someone directly and in person is something I really crave the older I get (I just turned 42). If you find yourself getting burned out on digital, take a look at what's available in tabletop gaming. It really is amazing.
Sounds like Johnny didn't use his citadel paints and glue in a well ventilated area
Love the Transformers reveal! I'm 40 and lived through that era. Also I wear glasses as well, but a bit more like Kim, I need them for everything. Great video :)

Another great video, Johnny! You’re such a gifted storyteller. Thanks for sharing your other hobbies here. Your enthusiasm, as always, is contagious!
You think you've got secrets? I'm a 33 year old man who has his entire bedroom decked out in Hello Kitty.
Glad you're taking up the painting again Johnny, hope you keep it up!

Hero Quest!😢🤧Sooo nostalgic!I use to beg my older cousins to let me play with them when we where at our grandmas house for the weekend..
Johnny, you just saved my ability to read & enjoy books. I normally wear glasses for screen use / long computer sessions but never once thought to try them for the average physical reading time.. It's night and day. Thank you man. You rock. :)
This is Actually one of my favorite videos. The passion is palpable! Transformers!!!!

LifeSpiller79 me too naps are needed nowadays for me and I'm 40 🤣 and I've slowed up on gaming myself. Still love gaming but I can't like I use too.
Andre Wills its a sign of the age kicking in. I'm glad I excercise otherwise when I get home from work i would need a nap. Lol
Awh Johnny, I actually love you so much.
Haha we are getting old! Love the honesty Johnny... That's why we keep watching
Secret to Johnny's happiness: paint and glue highs!
A year later and Johnny wears glasses regularly in his videos without shame. It's amazing what revealing secrets can do.
Great hearing about your passion for Transformers :) I think it's a series that still hold up strong to today & I loved playing with the toys as a kid with my brother. If you wanna share more of these secrets i am happy to hear more about it :)
9:47 you sure it wasn’t just the paint fumes? 😂 good episode man. Don’t sweat the spectacles
Glad to hear you like top war games and DnD ! ive been a fan of Games work Shop of about ten years and love playing there games
It's funny because I also did the same thing, 2 years ago I started playing Warhammer but ended up having more fun painting them I must have painted over 25 miniatures total. I stopped because gaming and other things I do take up too much of my time.

Fantastic video, I laughed super hard at the glasses revelation!
It's the same for BotH , Johnny . We may have been the generation that had cool toys but it's this generation that has screen accurate toys. MAN AT ARMS now actually looks like MAN AT ARMS.
You don't need glasses because you're old. You have become SO cultured, your body wants you to show that off.
Love the Hero Quest , all that stuff blew up in England in about 90/91 and me and all my mates loved it. Space Hulk and advanced Hero Quest . Playing rave tapes and painting minatures . Awesome days.
A fellow Transformers fan! Awesome! Everything you said about them was on point.
Loved this vid as a whole. Thanks!
hi there! i just want to say that i had the same experience with the need for glasses.... for several years my reading and gaming was declining untill i needed to go tho work health consult and they told me i needed glasses and now i'm back on the game =)
I'm supposed to wear glasses but I won't because I have a really short temper and when I get called four eyes I explode in rage.
You're artwork is amazing. It's kinda sad that you don't draw anymore.
Can completely relate about the glasses, I've had perfect vision all of my life but nearing 30 now I noticed it's been harder for me to play a lot of text based games or handhelds the last year or so and that was the reason why for me as well.
My dad has always really careful about wearing his ring, especially when we lived in a tiny town where there's little else to do but gossip.
Pre-watch prediction: Johnny secretly loves Budokan for the Genesis
Hero Quest! I had that, I think I was a couple years too young to fully appreciate it back then, though.
same story happened with me. had trouble reading back of a soda can and an older friend walking by said, here try these, and sure enough.. is like i went from 240p blurry to 4k lol. feels bad getting old.
Though some people out there are crazy, yes, some people might have looked at your ring being gone because they are genuinely worried and care about you. They like that you're the Happy Console Gamer and want you to be happy. Most of us just want the best for you.
You need to share more art work it's amazing j.s
warhammer and reading both things I need to do more of as well. I've always rocked glasses though just got a shiny new pair
Holy crap this is how I’ve been feeling not reading bored of my 3ds when I have a stack of games perhaps I need to look into glasses!
Auto like for the xenogears background music! My favorite rpg of all time!
eric chan I like the music but I never got very far in the game
Awesome game and one of the best soundtracks.
rock solid I would love a remastered version of it in pixel form. It’s a bit hard to look at graphics wise. It’s the deepest rpg I’ve played of that era.
Painting miniatures is such a great hobby. It' so therapeutic. I pain Star Wars Legion Miniatures.
You made the comic book illustrations 13.02 (this video time-line), that is great
I kinda relate to the first one but for me it's a little different. I generally don't have any trouble seeing but if I play something handheld, I get smeared vision that sticks around for a few hours. Never used to happen until this year.
Your Transformers art is incredible. When I was young I used to make little Transformers comic books too.
I recently had to get glasses but for seeing far away. I never realized how BAD my vision was ;.;
1988, what a year that was.
Totally feel ya. Same thing happened to me, reading my graphic novels. It was a revelation.
I love Transformers too! Picked up a boxed G1 Omega Supreme figure at a garage sale for $2 a couple summers ago. Amazing find. I’ll have to look into collecting those Japanese figures!
jzornthgrt that’s an awesome find! What a deal!
Is this xenogear song in battle? Love it and I’m so happy to like Warhammer- it really makes you feel so happy when you paint
I’ve been looking for answers in my life and you’ve been helping me out with your voice even though you don’t even know me.
Loved the Transformers Collection! Did not expect it. Hope you do a dedicated video on it.
I got back into board games a couple of years ago and it was as if a whole new world open up! It has happened a lot since Risk and Talisman...
Thanks for sharing John
You know Johnny, as someone who has been wearing glasses since I was 4 (I'm 36) and hated them for half his life, I can tell you one thing: glasses to me stopped being a "burden" and being embarrassing when I finally got my own money and started treating glasses like a fashion accessory rather than something shameful.
Very good painting there I know what you mean about the zen painting, have you heard of Guildball I find they are very fun mins to paint :)
I used to play Blood Bowl after school when I was in high school, had so much fun!
Can't see anything transforms without the song 'Dare' popping in my head. Love the movie so much! XD
Great video.
wow, I should try painting too! Sounds great!
I'd heard of the Blood Bowl video game. I had no clue it's roots are in a board game.
Oh Johnny, I fee like I learned more about you in this video than I have ever known. Miss ya bud!
Very cool video. I am jealous. I tried for years to paint miniatures, but I just couldn't do it. My skill level just never progressed. I tried again a few years ago, and just didn't have success. My hands have some minor arthritis, so it makes it so hard to do.
I love the artwork on your Transformers comic.
Hero quest!!! Brings me back. 😁
