you are absolutely correct on the how to know your box port tuning ..yes ..its completely 100% correct your sub excursion will always be THE LEAST at port tuning ..just take a good 3 mins on low volume on a tone generator and watch its cone excursion very closely when you find the few frequencies down low where it moves the least and then slowly go up or down in frequency until you find the 1 specific frequency it moves the LEAST at ....
Hey I enjoyed the vid. Just a tip, when testing low frequency content below (500hz) switch to the C-weighting on the meter it’s what it’s designed and will give you a more accurate reading.
Test tones are definitely hard on subwoofers, I’ve found the best way to test a subwoofer is with a song that has dynamic bass or even a movie that has different things going on in the low end, last thing you ever want to do is bottom out a subwoofer on a low note smacking that voice coil against the back plate of the subwoofer which can damage the voice coil and 9 times out of 10 if your subwoofer is bottoming out it’s also over excursion which can tear the spider and rip your tinsel leads.
I also find a lot of people who end up rating a good subwoofer bad is likely down to user error like not setting the crossover for the subwoofer correctly, allowing a subwoofer to play well below its tuning frequency is a sure fire way to destroy it that’s why the crossover is there it allows you to control the frequency range of were the subwoofer rolls off once it’s below the minimum tuning frequency.
I own the klipsch r112sw and im fairly unhappy with it it has a ton of port noise hardly any real output without distortion and then smelling it may be my setup but the port noise is awful im thinking about building my own enclosure for it as im fairly experienced in box making theres definitely got to be a ton if better options at the price it is
I'm also dead in the water with mine @ the moment as it happened over the 4th of July weekend with my RP 1600 we shall see tomorrow which will be Monday morning what they plan on doing about this as I take it as a serious issue a brand new subwoofer that is not even hardly played are even broken yet should not just stopped working and I'm not the only one having these problems😢
@MrTirien OK don't want to come across as a smartass but I had a engineer look at my plate amplifier it is a 90s concept model they are many cheap Class D failing Klipsch was Notorious for this on their last models as well yes SVS fails to but the design of SVS is a lot better I don't want to argue with you if you want one go buy it but I can promise you there is a lot of people having problems does it matter to me either way my friend..NO.
@@Kpaceguy i find for my room ..whenever i have the subwoofer facing towards the wall i get very usable frequencies ABOVE 64hz all the way up to 150hz if i want too ..i am currently using a PB1000 pro but will be upgrading in the future to a JTR captivator 4000 since ..the PB1000 pro was mainly used to test my room on how it will do on some frequencies below 20hz and my room didn't disappoint .. oh also my audio source is PC and i use the software Equalizer APO ..it is BRILLIANT ..its like a mini DSP but FREE!! you can manually create your OWN custom frequency response curve and there is a graph that shows you the RESULT of that curve you create on how it alters the signal ... now it don't show you the result as how it sounds in the room no it just shows how you have altered the signal ..so instead of sending a straight flat eq signal which resulted in some peaks ...you can dip down those peaky frequencies have the graph looking like it got some dips on it but when you play it with that setting now its very consistent ...very handy...
Interesting. Love Tron legacy btw. Loved it in 3d i still have it on 3d and seen at at the cinema 3 times in 3d. I have klipsch r41 sa for my atmos (I am only using 2 atmos atm)..I have mordaunt short mezzo range including mezzo 9 sub as well as a 309i. But my mains are mezzo 8. Had for a while now. You may remember me commenting on another vid of yours. :). But my mezzo 8's cone size looks the same as your mains size wise. So when I get home tomorrow I am going to try at 60 too. According to the frequency response they go down to 35. I am having trouble setting crossover as when I set it, it takes so much away from my main speakers. Had that years ago with a pair of cheap speakers...smell...it probably wasn't but smelled like glue...then center of tweeter just litterally fell 😂😂 I had it pretty loud...it wasn't a torture test I just wanted to hear it loud. This was decades ago though. I didn't upgrade my speakers for atmos but as the mordaunt short mezzo range come out before atmos there isn't an actual atmos speaker for that range. Tried a pair of Polk atmos ...sounded really flat. So wasn't happy. Loved how much brighter the klipsch sounded (although had to adjust the treble a bit) still sounds like a very nice blend. Thank you for video. Enjoyed and picked up another sub...I mean another subscriber 😂 p.s just noticed I am already subbed...well subscribed 😂
kinda weird that the sub gets hot when playing low hertz since the low hertz tone should take less power and cool of the coil since it generates alot of air thats a weird sub!

I usually do. Just forgot to
These are awesome subs for the money. I have 2 using a minidsp for EQ. Tuned flat to 17hz in room, -3db about 16hz

Never have issues with vibrations on the projector sitting on the center speaker?
Nope, everything in my system is sealed. The projector screen however vibrates a lot lol but so do all the walls lol
I bought two rp1400SWs for $699 each. For that price I think they are excellent. At full retail price then I'd get something else
Absolutely a steal at that price
Did you get them used off facebook/ebay?
Very cheap got to be in US in Toronto the go for around 2500
Tron, is it Tron? I think it’s Tron.
Can’t wait for a 4k steelbook!

hi great video but how do you aviod that cuffing? How do you set the subwoofer to avoid over excusion? THANKS.
You can get a DSP of some sort and keep the sub from playing under a certain frequency. Usually called a subsonic filter or a crossover slope
@@Kpaceguy thanks bro
I think you should have used C weighting on the SPL meter rather than A weighting.
You're correct I forgot to switch it trying to mess with the camera
link for the rug ?
Amazon
Rms rating for the rug flat and rough feeling 😊 lol
hey kpaceguy have you ever tried having the klipsch sub facing the wall ? how different does it sound ?
Tad bit louder at some frequencies with the wall reinforcing things, but overall, the same

Would two of the Klipsch 14” or 16” subs be to much for your room? Just asking because I have similar room size
I have 2 dual 15s subs in my room and one in the ceiling if that answers your question lol
Have you ever tried monolith subwoofer
Not in my home

I didn't expect it to start stinking either but it's possible if the sub is clipping
The lows use more power which creates heat
See if you can get your hands on a perlisten-d215s-subwoofer
you know whats a better bass test track ..... bassotronics bass is a throbulator ...a wide variety of frequencies ..real good stuff...
Tron legacy is just a awsome sounding movie, a 7.1 dts mix dosent get better then this😊
Nice 👌
That’s what subwoofers do :)
Did your other sub woofers have that smell when testing like klipsh.
Nope. But they did get hot but took a lot longer.
