    as - being your favorite german nerd: for gas Q's the griddle is supposed to be on the right side - for electric it's supposed to be placed on the left side... that's what the Weber manual says over here... you are such a wonderful person describing things without being the "Chef" - I'm loving it

    • @ChicagoGriller

      That's an interesting catch in the manual. I'll take your word that it's there, but I am not sure why it really matters what side the griddle is on and why it would be different for electric v gas.

    I really appreciate these videos. We just ordered a Q1200 and are watching these videos in anticipation of its arrival. I think these pancakes will have to be among the first things we make for this upcoming Mother’s Day.

      Pancakes will be a bit for mom! Yes you can make pancakes indoors but my wife and I much prefer our pancakes on the grill - more surface area to work with and we think that because you get some heat from the top when the lid is down helps cook them a little more evenly. Enjoy!

    Thank you , Jerry ! Actually 4 pancakes on the griddle is pretty darn good . When I make them in a frying pan I only cook 1 at a time . And on my electric griddle I can make 8 at a time . Making them in batches is okay , doesn't take long . I always make extra and freeze some for the next time I want pancakes . I love using Buckwheat floor , Bob's Red Mill or Soba at Asian Markets ! Enjoy my friend , love your videos . I'm usually the chef at camp outs , I feed the hungriest person first . One person wants Bacon another wants Sausage and of course you have the Steak lovers , home fried potatoes , eggs and of course Pancakes . Your right , Don't forget the Maple Syrup ! ☺️

    My Webber Q is the center of my camp kitchen. Turkey bacon cooks on the grill side while I make pancakes on the griddle. It’s also perfect for hash browns. If you think it tastes good at home, imagine being in a quiet campsite overlooking a small mountain stream.

    You could always drill a couple of holes in the plate near the edge on the straight side of griddle and in the middle so that the grease runs down into the drip tray, this will help with cleaning the bbq as well.

      If I'm not mistaken, Weber FINALLY came out with a full size griddle for their new Weber Qs. I really enjoy using my half-griddle, but I find that I almost always want more flat surface area. So I'd probably recommend a full size one if you can find one compatible for your grill.

    You have the gridle upside down! On the side you are using the drain holes have a ridge around them making the grease pool. If you turn it over the holes have no ridge and the grease drains right off.

      No problem - high heat is the solid circle that also has the lightning bolt through it. Medium is the 1/2 circle, and the 1/4 circle is low.

    Do you have to season the griddle? I have one been using it... ( bought it used so have no idea if it has been seasoned) I would like to do fried eggs on it in the futures. Thanks in advance!

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад

      Fried egg is really good on the griddle. I have made it as a component in a few of my recipes!
      Anyways I recommend you season it before your first use. Take a paper towel dabbed lightly with olive oil and rub all surfaces of it. Then put it in the oven for about 30 min at 300F (about 150C). After that you should be good to go. You would still season with non stick spray or your choice of oil before subsequent uses. Happy cooking! :-)

    I just bought a Q1200. Strange question, but How long does it take for your Q1200 to heat up before you can start cooking on it? Or can you start cooking on it immediately?

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад

      Awesome purchase! You won’t regret it! Good question. No matter what you grill on it, you will need to preheat to HIGH for at least 10-15 min. Your temperature gauge should reach over 400F at this point possibly even between 450-500F. This ensures your grates are properly heated and ready to grill! From there you can then set your appropriate cooking temperature for whatever you are cooking.

    Can you season the hotplate on the Weber q bbq

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад

      If you mean by applying oil and then heat treating it before its first use, I don't see why not. It would be the same process as the oven... just preheat the grill then lay the plate down. Set the gas to low so it's around 300-350F, and let that go for about 30 minutes.

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад +1

      Hi Mack! Thanks for watching. Here's how I've seasoned my cast iron... you can use some kind of oil - a high temperature one is better. Apply a very thin layer of it (be sure to dab off any pooled excess) on all surfaces of the cast iron. Then you just bake it in the oven for about 30 min at about 300 F (150C)

  • @jeffvezich8936

    What oil can you uses for seasoning the hotplate

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад

      I usually just spray on some of the canned canola oil before turning on the heat, but I would imagine any oil you use on the regular grates would work just as well. I've used olive oil and rub that into the plate with much success too.

    My question is, does it make a difference as to whether the griddle is on the right or left side of the grill? With the 3200 would one use both burners or the main loop or just the center burner? I have a 3200.

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад +1

      I don’t have direct experience with the Q3200 but the griddle can go on either side. I am guessing based on how the burners are shaped in the Q3200 you probably need to turn them all on, or else you have a cooler spot in the middle.

    • @JacobBall75
      @JacobBall75 2 года назад

      Actually, the booklet that comes with the 3200 griddle plate instructs you to put it on the right side of the bbq, and not the left. I’d say it’s because of more gas flow from the right side. Also, you do use both burners to preheat, just like you do for grilling.

    I have a Weber Q200 and it is a single grate. Is it ok to put the griddle on top of the grate?

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  Год назад

      I don't see why you wouldn't be able to just lay it on top... but keep in mind that it will take longer to preheat. Because your grill will have to first heat up the grates, then the heat also has to transfer to the griddle on top. But it I don't see why this wouldn't work.

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  2 года назад +1

      Hmmmm... egg should release pretty well no matter how you are preparing it. I wonder if maybe since the grill is so new, it just needs to be seasoned / preseasoned like you would cast iron cookware. Apply a light layer of oil to it, and let it burn/polymerize on low for about 20 minutes and then hopefully you should be good to go going forward.

    • @angelamcilwaine4535
      @angelamcilwaine4535 2 года назад +1

      You were correct! I cooked a test egg on it and no issue at all. No sticking and cleans up easily.
      On another note I want to use a 20 lb propane tank as I am now on my second portable propane cylinder. Do I need to use a Weber product to hookup the tank or is there a recommendation for a less expensive one.

      I don’t use a Weber adapter. I got one off of Amazon and have no problems with it. This is the one that I am now currently using and while I don’t think the gas gauge is very accurate, I have no problems with leaks or comparability: amzn.to/3xF08en

    You stated it's not advisable to use 2 griddles at the same time because of lack of air flow.
    But I've noticed Weber sells a full size griddle for the Q-Line.
    What would be the diffrance. Besides the gap in the middle were the 2 half griddle meet?

    • @ChicagoGriller
      @ChicagoGriller  3 года назад

      Hi Dave! I think the product you are referring to is the Weber Q breakfast plate. It rests ON TOP of the grill grates, and doesn't cover the entire surface area, so air still readily circulates. I can't speak to how hot or how well it cooks as they don't sell it in the USA, but you can buy them on the Weber AU website.
      There is also a third party product I've seen that sells a full size griddle that replaces the grates like this griddle. I have not heard of anybody having problems with it, but again, I just have to point out it's "not recommended" by the manufacturer.
      Thanks again for watching. I hope this helps you and others!
