  • In this video I show you how to do a transmission service that can be repeated multiple times if needed. I show all the needed tools and equipment. This demonstration is for a routine maintenance service and not meant to diagnose or repair any shifting or drivability issues.
    Volvo doesn't recommend replacing the fluid. However I see daily that it should be replaced every 30-40 thousand miles. Especially in very hilly areas.
    **Disclaimer*** If your vehicle is not shifting well and has trouble codes for transmission operation, you should not service it. You will need to take it to a professional for diagnostic. Servicing a failing transmission can speed up the failing process. Proceed with caution.

    I did mine 2 days ago no gearbox reset and no fancy tablet plugin they say it has to be 50 degrees to check level, ok how do you get it to 50 degrees? simple you DRIVE the car for 30 mins and the oil will be good for a level check! no tablet, no reset, no fuss PS car runs great!

      I personally prefer the five cylinder engine and 5 speed auto transmission.

    Hey boss I have a question..i have an 07 XC90 V8..is the process for changing fluid the same? Does that specific year model have a actual trans filter? Not sure what the trans model is..thank you

      Hey good question. It is different. I’m currently doing a video on this. You can cheat by measuring how much comes out. There’s a torx 55 or 60 bolt on top of the transmission down under the air filter housing. You can fit a funnel in it and pour in the same amount of clean fluid that you drained out. This way only works if there no leaks. Stay tuned for the full video.

    Does it have a Filter?

    • @evolutionmotors9374
      @evolutionmotors9374  Год назад +1

      It has an internal filter that is not meant to be serviced. A complete transmission rebuild is required to change the filter. So servicing the fluid every 6-70thousand miles is the next best thing. It’s a dumb design that most front wheel drive transmissions on later model cars do.

    Hey, do you know where to find the refill on the 2008 model? I am in Botswana right now and would appreciate the help.

      @evolutionmotors9374  Год назад +2

      Yes should be under the air filter housing. Right next to the shift linkage cable. It’s a large torx bolt on top of the transmission.

    But Volvo diagnostics say that Volvo transmission oil doesn't need to be changed if it's not been told. From other side some car manufacturers promise lifetime transmission oil, but when gearbox will break service I believe will tell that it was misused.

      Yeah so the term " Life time" fluid is only until the vehicle warranty runs out. Its very misleading. Volvo states on there website in extreme conditions ie; Hilly or Dusty areas, the fluid needs to be changed every 40,000-60,000 miles. I recommend replacing when the fluid turns brown. These are known to have valve body wear. Changing the fluid at 40k-60K miles prevents valve body wear.

    Do you have to read the dipstick level when the engine is running ?
    (I have a 2003 XC90 with the same dipstick, and I'm quite bored by refilling and leveling this gearbox....😅)

    • @evolutionmotors9374
      @evolutionmotors9374  Год назад +2

      Yes. The engine needs to be running at idle speed. It is a bit of a chore. Lol.
