Definitely the correct decision 👍 . I'm not a fan of the sub, but well done to Ginault for changing the hands, but why did they have to copy the ridiculous amount of text on the dial?
I bought the same CW 300 and its indeed an awesome watch. As far as the comparison there isn't much to compare in my eyes. The CW is much more established brand , well known and highly regarded in the watch community, overall package and 5 year warranty is unheard of in this price range. The ginault as nice as it is there is not much thought as far as design originality. Clear winner in my eyes
I think the originality of the Ward trumps the ginault's adherence to all things submariner. From 5 feet away the Ginault IS a submariner more so than most homages. My other gripe with the Ginault is the redudant text , but I still like it;the Ward isn't as obviously "borrowing" or homaging and therefore the superior watch, I just saw your points and I agree with you in terms of which one comes out on top. I like to think of homages in terms of risk to the wearer- if it's inviting a scuffle and someone trying to grab it , it's venturing into replica territory , which is obviously the next rung down on the descent into madness Thank you for another great video, I am contemplating the real submariner and the Ginault occupies a small part of the equation for me
They are both fantastic and about equal in my view. Love them both. The things I would change on the CW is to add some chamfering on the clasp edges so it's not so sharp and scratchy. I would also make the indices just a little bit shorter and wider, but not by much. Somewhere inbetween what they are now, and the square shape of the Pelagos indices. But yeah both of these things are nitpicking. Really great pieces.
I don’t know much about either watches, but I’ve always admired CW designs and have never been interested in Sub Homages so for me the choice is simple. Thanks for the great comparison.
James watched this a while ago with a keen interest but have only recently been able to do a comparison myself (actually C60 300 vs Silent Service). And your assessment was really good - firstly, these are both excellent watches in terms of quality for the price. Like you I land in a similar place in that you have to rank the CW higher on design and originality but there is very little to separate them purely on quality. I can’t think of much else that comes close in this price bracket, only wish there was! V best
Oh wow. That’s awesome. I really like to look of the silent service. I’ve considered buying it in a number of times. But, as you say, they are both incredible.
Fantastic comparison, James! Both these watches have been on my wish list sometime or the other, and even after this video, I still can’t decide which one I like better. Decisions, decisions…
To note the cw ceramic on the bezel is a composite of lab made diamond and ceramic. This means the bezel is harder and less likely to take large amounts of damage. Taking this in note I’d say they should both take a check on the bezel just for the lack of Indentation being made up for the durability of the bezel.
Thanks so much for this video, it's extremely useful. I currently own the same CW as yours and really like it but I sometimes feel that the large dial opening and thinner bezel makes it wear a bit bigger (I even have the same wrist as you) so was great to see them side by side. I really like the proportions of the Ginault as the dial is slightly smaller and the bezel slightly wider. I'm not sure if you had the OR1 or OR2 here but they have an OR2 which has a black dial and a blue bezel, no date which is an absolute stunner and one I'm seriously considering selling my CW for and picking up.
Excellent video James, both are very nice watches. I should say I also own this Christopher Ward so maybe I could be accused of bias. Probably the main difference for me is that the CW is a unique design. You can find a decent enough Ali Express watch that looks like the Ginault. It's only a personal opinion, but anything that looks like a Rolex from afar but isn't one, it's not for me. However if you don't mind that it's a good watch. Given both being the same price, it's CW all the way. As well as brand, if you added a design column, the CW would get a tick and the Ginault would get a cross. Thanks for the comparison! Lol. I was writing before the video came to an end and I see you DID add a design column! 😂
Hi james great video thanks for doing a video on mid priced watches really good have not heard of ginault will look them up now it will be interesting to compare to my Rolex but from the video the quality looks very good.im with you though Christopher ward on this comparison as it's not a homage. Have you compared the ginault to the stinhart? I do own two stinharts because the smallest watch I can wear is 42mm and most Rolex are 41mm and can get the same style watch I 44mm.thanks John
I think really its just subjective, they are both good quality, i dont care about the caseback,i never really really look at it, as long as the comfort is good, i am happy. I think i would choose the CW as i think the case looks a little more compact and the hands are a little less common, but i think thats a personal choice and not a slight against the Ginault, they both look like fine watches.
The Ginault looks better than the Submariner because it’s hands are not Mercedes. But the Christopher Ward wins the award because it looks better than both! 🎉🕐⚙️⚙️
I personally think that unless you have an absolutely insane movement in a piece (or the Sea-Gull of course) then exhibition casebacks are unnecessary. Most of the time all you can see is the automatic rotor with just brief glimpses of actual automation. Completely unnecessary in my opinion. I'd much rather a nicely detailed solid caseback. Regarding looks; to me the bezel on the CW is far too thin. It really reminds me of the Casio Duro with how that models dial dimensions and spacing just doesn't look quite right.
The best part of this review is that it does not use a timegrapher or any other measure of accuracy when comparing 2 watches using same movement, for example to test the claims made by Ginault. Most of his reviews boil down to 7 seconds or less. Here's the essence of this video: "I prefer CW over Ginault. Why? I don't really know, I just like it better, because CW is better. Thanks for watching." Now that's what I call a great review and a helpful opinion.
Someone mentioned adding chamfering to the clasp of the CW because it's sharp. I don't find it sharp but adding that to the clasp AND bracelet is the only thing i would change on the CW. It's one of the things i love about the Zelos Mako bracelet. I do love my white dial version of your CW. It really is amazing. Great review James.
You cant compare an homage watch to an original piece, its not the same thing. The Ginault is a Sub with a Yacht Master colored second hand and an Omega sword hand hour hand. There is literally nothing unique in it. They havent created anything here but a copy paste parts bin cash grab. The CW is not exactly mind blowingly original, but its a clean looking original design. CW had to design this the hard way by releasing nothing but ugly watches for a long time to reach their current level of success. Meanwhile the Ginault looks like a franken
Both of these watches are incredible quality especially when considering the price. That was the purpose of this one. To compare two very different watches that share that attribute.
The cw takes it mainly due to better customer service and 5 year warranty, and where it’s made. Wouldn’t trust ginault chasing up a warranty claim unless you live in the USA
I don’t like how the CW looks. If the Ginault had the milsub bezel I’d get one but it is too similar to the modern Submariner. Anyway both quality made and good specs.
The two best made watches for their cost that I’ve experienced side by side
Good Video However the Ginault Silent Service would have been a much better comparison to the c60
I would love to get hands on with that watch. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone that owns it.
Definitely the correct decision 👍 . I'm not a fan of the sub, but well done to Ginault for changing the hands, but why did they have to copy the ridiculous amount of text on the dial?
I can say it is made extremely well. But I do prefer the CW
I prefer Ginault.
They are an extremely well made watch. Impressive for the price
I bought the same CW 300 and its indeed an awesome watch. As far as the comparison there isn't much to compare in my eyes. What a fantastic review. I'm currently in the market for a CW and I found your review to be detailed, fair, considerate, and extremely helpful. Bravo!
Thank you Kerry. The CW60 is incredible and I’m keen to get hands on with more of their watches.
Great stuff! Both have been on my list for ages. Thanks for the great comparison James.
Thanks for WATCHing
I think you could of given the bracelet category to Christopher Ward as it is quick release. Both nice watches, but I'd definitely go with the CW!
That is true. For me the bracelets are so good I would not be swapping it out. Which is probably why I did not think to mention it.
They are both fantastic and about equal in my view. Love them both. The things I would change on the CW is to add some chamfering on the clasp edges so it's not so sharp and scratchy. Hi James, I have to agree with you. Christopher Ward is better. The other watch is a super homage but still a homage.
Exactly
I don’t know much about either watches, but I’ve always admired CW designs and have never been interested in Sub Homages so for me the choice is simple. Thanks for the great comparison.
That does make the choice easy. I feel the same way too.
James watched this a while ago with a keen interest but have only recently been able to do a comparison myself (actually C60 300 vs Silent Service). Oh wow. That’s awesome.
I really like to look of the silent service. I’ve considered buying it in a number of times.
But, as you say, they are both incredible.
Christopher Ward is outstanding! Great review.
They are very impressive. I love my C60
Nice comparison, luminosity CW would definitely win...
I do prefer the CW. But from a build quality perspective they are both amazing.
Fantastic comparison, James! Both these watches have been on my wish list sometime or the other, and even after this video, I still can’t decide which one I like better. Decisions, decisions…
It is a hard decision. Both are incredible. I think it comes down to a aesthetic choice.
To note the cw ceramic on the bezel is a composite of lab made diamond and ceramic. This means the bezel is harder and less likely to take large amounts of damage. Taking this in note I’d say they should both take a check on the bezel just for the lack of Indentation being made up for the durability of the bezel.
I was not aware of that. Wow. Another amazing thing from the brand.
I love ❤ Christopher Ward and have owned many but that Ginault is the one I would go for in this case. 😊
Both are brilliant
Thanks so much for this video, it's extremely useful. Both are amazing watches. I think the Ginaut I’ve borrowed is a V1
@WATCHingJames OK, good to know. I know they've made improvements to V2. Keep up the good work, really enjoy your reviews 👍
Great video, and I agree with the outcome. Well done.
Thanks Frank
Very good video comparison. One feature you missed is CW's warranty program. Who beats that??? Big check for Christopher ward buy with confidence.
Ah yes. That would have been a good point to bring up.
I completely forgot.
Thanks for WATCHing

Hahahaha thanks Brian. The CW is definitely a winner for me personally but if you just look at quality then I feel they are equal.
Two awesome watches for sure definitely can't go wrong with either in my opinion great comparison 👍
I thinks so too
Christopher Ward has a better bracelet. What you forgot to mention is the quick release function to change straps.
They both feel incredible. But I do prefer the CW
another great video my guy
Thank you. This one was particularly interesting for me to put together.
Hi james great video thanks for doing a video on mid priced watches really good have not heard of ginault will look them up now it will be interesting to compare to my Rolex but from the video the quality looks very good.im with you though Christopher ward on this comparison as it's not a homage. I love the Steinharts too. But there is a quality difference between them and the Ginault/CW.
I’m a bit late to the party here & must say the re sale on Ginault is excellent, for me the Ginault is the better watch
They are amazing. I have the silent service now and it is shocking good.
I think really its just subjective, they are both good quality, i dont care about the caseback,i never really really look at it, as long as the comfort is good, i am happy. They are both incredible. I agree that it would come down to personal taste.
It was an interesting comparison as they are both outstanding
Unfortunately, its too similar to the submariner. Its beautiful, but to a collector, is it a meaningful alternative or a copy?
It’s good to have some diversity in the collection.
The Ginault looks better than the Submariner because it’s hands are not Mercedes. But the Christopher Ward wins the award because it looks better than both! 🎉🕐⚙️⚙️
I completely agree
I don't like Mercedes hands either. I prefer the Ginault the spear on the second hand of the C.W. don't care for it.
I personally think that unless you have an absolutely insane movement in a piece (or the Sea-Gull of course) then exhibition casebacks are unnecessary. I really like a detailed caseback too
This is Ocean-Rover 2? Thank you
Hello. Yes I think it is.
Hey, any idea when the giveaway video will be uploaded?
It comes out tomorrow
@@WATCHingJames yaaay. Can't wait. Fingers crossed lol.
🤞
I’ve owned both for years and i think the ginault is the better watch.
Thanks for WATCHing
The Ginault is am homage. Game, set and match to Christopher Ward.
Thanks for WATCHing

Now that would have made it a shorter and easier video to edit. 😂😂😂
Basically high quality Omega homage v a high quantity Rolex homage. So buy according to the main brand you favour
Thanks for WATCHing
Someone mentioned adding chamfering to the clasp of the CW because it's sharp. I don't find it sharp but adding that to the clasp AND bracelet is the only thing i would change on the CW. It's one of the things i love about the Zelos Mako bracelet. I do love my white dial version of your CW. It really is amazing. Great review James.
I have not found it sharp. It’s one of the best clasps I’ve experienced. I just wish it was a tiny bit shorter.
You cant compare an homage watch to an original piece, its not the same thing. The Ginault is a Sub with a Yacht Master colored second hand and an Omega sword hand hour hand. You missed the quick release on the cw bracelet so should get extra point
Ahh yes. It is such a good bracelet that I have never taken it off so I was not thinking about it.
Thanks for WATCHing
Nope the Christopher Ward is better. For one reason the dial is not cluttered with endless text.
Hahahaha yes. That is a factor too
The cw takes it mainly due to better customer service and 5 year warranty, and where it’s made. Wouldn’t trust ginault chasing up a warranty claim unless you live in the USA
A very good point.
The Ginault is classier in my opinion.
Thanks for WATCHing
Nice video
Thank you
👍
👍
Ginault looks like a Submariner homage watch, Christopher Ward looks like a Christopher Ward.
Thanks for WATCHing
I don’t like how the CW looks. If the Ginault had the milsub bezel I’d get one but it is too similar to the modern Submariner. Anyway both quality made and good specs.
They are incredibly well made. But you still have to like the look.
Don't like the trident seconds hand. At all
Thanks for WATCHing
The Ginault has no personality w.r.t. the C. Ward, is just one of many watches with a submariner design.
Thanks for WATCHing
Excellent comparison! CW is just amazing.
Thanks mate.
👍
