Fantastic footage! The Big Boys stands as one of the ultimate steam locomotives designs ever created and they were undoubtedly one of the most successful classes of engines ever put to work!
Great video and Equally Great Narrative. I missed seeing it this time but saw it in 2021. This time it passed by where I was volunteering in Jefferson Barracks. 👍🙏
As far as I know there's only one restored to operation, so this would be the same one. UP operates another, smaller steamer too. I have family out West that get to see these running a lot more frequently!
I just realized that the answer depends on whether you meant you saw one on display or one in operation. There are multiple Big Boys preserved as static displays in various places (including Cheyenne), but only one operational one. And this one was put into service in 2019, so when you were stationed there also affects the answer. You can read up more on the history of UP's Big Boys here: www.up.com/heritage/steam/4014/
We were there to see it in Desoto. Such a nice experience. My grandpa had a very large high quality museum style HO scale train layout when I was a young boy and I would always love to run the Big Boy!
We've been wondering if anyone would recognize themselves in our footage! Great memory of your grandfather; model railroading is alive and well today, too.
Unbelievable how loud that is in person 😮
Excellent!!!

Great info
Saw him yesterday in Arkansas! Bucket list check-off!
Excellent reporting thank you-especially liked the maps
Thanks! We figure a little context never hurt anyone...
Saw the Big Boy here in PBMO day before yesterday. I was stationed at Cheyenne for years and used to see another one of the Big Boys there everyday.

@@ozarkoutsider I didn't realize it was the same one. That's cool that they restored it.

I'm new to the area and really enjoy learning about the region through your videos, Thanks!
Nice to hear, thank you!
I grew up in that area. Now I am west side of MO. So I am going to catch it as it comes into KC
Make sense! But it was especially neat to chase it through the hills and hear the whistle echoing through the valleys.

I wanted to see this last weekend in Rochelle, IL but couldn't make it, so thanks for this. Thanks!
Glad to help out!
