      Leinster had many opportunities to score and did not conclude them.
      They have the same issue as Ireland when they play at the highest level : they lack the killer instinct. Also they have become too prédictible. As for the quarter final against the AB.
      After the red card i was sure Leinster would win. From this moment they committed all the possible mistakes.
      From my point of view Leinster has more lost the game than Toulouse won it.
      The arrival of Barrett will improve the Leinster game and bring some craziness it lacks today.

    He's definitely the greatest, there can be no question about it. No player has ever been consistently that good for every game and be able to be so versatile. Winning a WC means nothing as that's a team effort and Christiano Ronaldo is regarded as the greatest by many but never even made it to a SF with Portugal, never mind winning a final, and Pele and Maradona have never won a Copa America but are still regarded as the greatest.
    This guy is like Messi, he's from another planet, but it's also really humble like Messi too.

Daniel Carter was the backline general and had something like a 90% win rate against the biggest and best teams in the world. And this is me just naming ONE. We can mention guys like Richie McCaw, Eben Etzebeth, Frans Malherbe, Israel Dagg too.

If you compare him to players like Ritchie McCaw, Dan Carter, Siya Kolisi (RM and SK have won back to back WC’s) not to mention players like Cheslin Kolbe (also back to back WC winner) amongst a plethora of amazing players past and present. What about Faff de Klerk? The French really really should have at least got to the final of last years WC, but were drinking too much of their own koolade. It’s not that the WC is the absolute last word, but jeez-if I was a Saffa I would be laughing at this. And I’m English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

      Not to mention your boys too! Johnson, Wilko, Catt, Robinson.
      All in all I think people say these things because they find a certain player exciting. Even as a Bok fan, I couldn't believe Wilkinson, O'Driscoll and Williams. And hell, Carter, it was an honour to see him disembowel us the way he did.
      But if we're being honest, you guys won the 2003 World Cup due to a scary, scary front row. South Africa are world champions because of an equally scary, scary front row.
      So while I can enjoy DuPont, Carter and Wilko, I'll be writing down the names of Frans Malherbe, Phil Vickery, Andrew Sheridan and Steven Kitshoff down long before I even think to pick anyone from the backline.

      @Benboy1980 7 месяцев назад

      @@randomlyfactual1943 i think that’s a very fair appraisal of what creates the platform for the backs. It’s the power and attrition by the forwards. And the Boks have had by far and away the best pack for the last 8-10 years. I often talk about vickery and Sheridan wistfully. We don’t seem to have the same depth anymore. I also really miss the professionalism and coolness of JW. As much as Farrell has been a cornerstone for England, he just hasn’t quite been consistent and he is too aggressive to the detriment of his teammates. If France had won this Wc we would absolutely have been talking about DuPont as one of the goats, but they didn’t. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      @@Benboy1980 yeah man, Vickery was the bedrock and Sheridan was the destroyer. And without them, Wilko would not be Wilko.
      Sticking to that 2003 RWC, I lament having it not been NZ in the final against your boys. They were the one team I felt was a legit threat to you guys and due to that classic 15-13 win you had in NZ, they would have had a point to prove. Nevertheless, Australia fronted up really well, much better than I could have expected.
      Insofar Farrel goes, he is a great player goes but I think you've hit the nail on the head; he is maybe a bit too cocky and aggressive for his own good. Carter and Wilko, never got the idea that their heads maybe got too big. They just did their thing and decimated whatever opponent was unlucky enough to cross them.
      To this day, the Wilko/Carter argument is one that I cannot get enough of.

    If I recall correctly, France have already won a 7s tournament, I wanna say 2018 or 2019 (pre-covid) and they've already been beating Fiji (the current Olympic champions) consistently. I think the team to beat, in the coming Olympics is actually Argentina. They're on red hot form and I think they're one of the only teams who are at their best when they're confident, and they are super confident. One could bet on France doing very well because of home court advantage tho. Now I don't wanna sound like a hater, I'm definitely not, but this is sort of a Michael Jordan vs. Lebron James debate. We're clearly lauding a man who's doing the right things, in a way we've probably never seen before, consistently, but I don't know if we can necessarily call him the GOAT. Is he a great, brilliant, gifted rugby player? Absolutely. But to compare their overall rugby career, skill set, physical abilities, technicality, etc. and call someone the GOAT over someone else? Bro. If you wanna say that he's one of the most complete players. Definitely up there without a doubt. But the greatest? *Umph. It's a lengthy discussion, using sound parameters. I'm very prickly when it comes to placing someone as the GOAT over others. There must be NO doubt, and I currently doubt. He'd be the GOAT in my eyes if he were to lead France in winning the Olympic gold, RWC 2027 and 2031, World number one for one or two RWC cycles, another two WR Player of the Year awards and most caps for France. Then there'd be no doubt. I think comparatively, Jordan has those similar winning stats, in his sport, and most people still see him as the GOAT, over the longest serving and accomplished NBA player-Lebron James.

Personally, I think Sam whitelock is the greatest all black in living memory. What does Borthwick want? Willis plays in the best club in Europe which is an hour and some from London by plane.
    This player has progressed sportily and flourishes fully in Toulouse. In 2 years, he is Champion of France and today Champion of Europe. But what more to wish for him? Otherwise to become a holder of the XV of the Rose...

    A couple of things:
    - DuPont is certainly very very good. Elite level. One of the best ever to do it.
    - Greatest though, is a hard sell. Because now youre talking impact of the game, not just ability. People in that list would be men like Jonah Lomu, Francois Pienaar, Siya Kolisi. They are icons of the game, recognisable outside of the rugby bubble. The day when Antoine DuPont gets to have a Clint Eastwood film with Matt Damon playing him in the lead opposite Morgan Freeman, THAT is when you can make an argument for "the greatest".
    - An argument you could rather make is "best". But then, there are plenty of guys who did it at the highest levels. Lomu, Habana, Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Os Du Randt, etc.
    - Rugby has a too diverse skillset to make this argument. Currently for me rugby's MVP is Frans Malherbe, and my number 2 is Vincent Koch. Why? Because they form the bedrock of the South African scrum, a weapon that has seen no proper counter in more than 4 years. I would pick both of them on my sheet long long I even think to mention DuPont.
    - In terms of backline play, DuPont has got a lot to do before his name can be mentioned alongside of Wilkinson and Carter. Carter especially was the general that commanded the most dominant rugby team ever, with a win rate of something like 90%.
    - Though still a hard argument to make, I can definitely see one can make the argument for both the greatest and best French player of all time.
    Stop with this GOAT nonsense.

    • @randomlyfactual1943
      @randomlyfactual1943 6 месяцев назад

      @@benjaminstephan2776 The simple fact is, more people know about Francois Pienaar and the 1995 Springboks than any other player and any other team. Hollywood has a much wider reach than rugby. For that reason, the magnitude of Pienaar's achievement is much more widely heralded than any rugby player before or since.
      Is it fair? Of course not. While Francois Pienaar was certainly a very good - or even great - loose forward, the truth is that I wouldn't pick him over Richie McCaw, I wouldn't pick him over Schalk Burger, I wouldn't pick him over Ardie Savea and I wouldn't pick him over Pieter Steph Du Toit. But they are not the ones being played in a Hollywood blockbuster.
