Can this be useful in a cage fight or a street fight ???? Surely not, so better practice kick boxing, brazillian jiu jitsu and wrestling rather losing time with this nonsense Martial art
To the untrained eye, one might believe kata is a useless dance. For someone who has really studied kata and put in years into the old ways, these few will understand the benefit and purpose of kata. I train bjj, boxing, and muay thai as well, and everyone I face says I am different. When they say different, they say I have good timing, rhythm, calmness, mobility, etc.. I attribute all of these to my kata training. To answer your question, will kata alone help prepare you for a cage fight? The answer is no. If you want to fight in a cage, practice fighting in a cage. Will kata teach you the hidden aspects and principles that underly a vast portion of martial arts and combat sports? Yes. Hidden aspects, subtle principles: 1. Focus 2. Breathing 3. Timing 4. Rhythm 5. Grounding 6. Rooting 7. Centering 8. Power generation 9. Visualization 10. Awareness 11. Mobility 12. Flexibility The list can go on and on.. Nowadays it's understandable that many want fast results and instant gratification, to live a viral life. Not many want to train in the old ways, and it's because it is a long and slow process. My karate background helps complete the circle on my path to becoming a complete martial artist.
The Form or Kata is like a race car track. It’s there to allow you to test the form and speed of your techniques in a structured way. You can never judge the extent of a person’s knowledge by looking at their Kata or forms alone. Can you use some of these techniques in the street? Hell yeah
Sensei!!! I've trained Karate for 4 years and my wife is a black belt 3rd dan. My twin boys (8 years old) are green belts. Everyday after practice, my wife and the boys are practicing the technique from your videos. Thank you Sensei!!! OSS!!!
I studied TaeKwonDo for several years and have f8nally found a Shotokan school. I am so excited because i have wanted to study Japanese Karate forever, but only thing I've ever been around was TaeKwonDo. I have seen some of the best forms from people, but you sir on whole level of your own. So crisp. So precise. Feet placement perfect. I don't know the Shotokan forms yet, but I know the moves and stances you are doing. So good. I wish I was training under YOU lol. But I'm just thankful I found a traditional Shotokan school at all
ITF Tae Kwon Do is very similar to Shotokan. I started Shotokan at 14 switched to TKD, due to similarity and still train TKD. I am now 65. I owe a great deal to Martial arts and this video is amazing. It helps me rekindle old memories. Well done sensei. You are truly a master. Love to see something similar in all martial arts styles. White Crane especially.
I've just started at 50 years old and I have learnt the first Kata after 2 sessions. My instructor is a 7th Dan I'm absolutely hooked, on learning this wonderful art form You video should be an inspiration to thousands it has definitely inspired me 🙏
I did shotokan karate from the age of 14 until I was 23, when I finished my medical course. I reached the red belt and then I no longer had time to continue training and progress as I wanted. I continued to practice alone or with friends linked to shotokan, but already outside the dojos. This video is extraordinary and shows the perfection that this style demands, in short, true karate, and which I remember with immense pleasure, 40 years after leaving the dojo
I did this style when I was a kid for about 4 years or around that time. Then I left for high school. I think I got my blue belt and remembered bits and pieces of a few katas but some are similar and I remember getting confused between a few katas. 30 years later Im thinking of taking it up again and wished there was a video of all the katas so I could start practicing again and give me a head start when I start from white belt again at a new dojo. You just answered my prayers, thank you so much!
Flippin brilliant! 🥋 Your Heian Shodan and Heian Nidan videos got me through my last 2 gradings, along with the Shuto/Kokutsu dachi one 💪. Now Heian Sandan is on the horizon, gonna be awesome! This new video is EPIC! 👍👍 🥋
The long awaited video! Thank you for the content over the years. Having a consistent (and modern) volume of Shotokan Kata videos will inevitably be an important step in many Karateka learning their Katas in years to come. To see it come together here, in high quality, is truly a brilliant milestone. Thank you!
I use to see his guys videos but this is a grand video for me as i am a karate black belt and i have a championship in 4 days and i have to do 4 best katas there but i forgot some, so this is the best video for me. I give a very big salute to this guy i really appreciate him ❤
I started to learn karate from March, 2024 . Now I am a white belt and I already learned taikyoku shodan , taikyoku nidan , taikyoku sandan , heian shodan and nidan from you Sensei. Oss❤❤
Excellent work. I was a student of Shugoro Nakazato for several years (1974-76) while living in Okinawa. You do these katas differently than I was taught, but close enough for me to follow. 👍
Thank you Sensei Jason for reminding me of some of the katas I learned in my Shotokan training many years ago. At that time Hedidka Nishiama was my Shotokan role model. Now if I returned to training and learning it would most definitely be you.
@@ks-ij8sc I suppose that makes sense. I just think that Karate would appeal to a much wider audience than Judo as an Olympic event. But that’s just my bias.

But considering the disgrace seen in previous Olympics, it's probably best for Karate not to return.

Cuz karate is only for defence
@@vinitasirvi1694 Actually, no. The World Karate Federation (WKF) organizes open championships that bring together the world's top karate athletes
