I understand his intention, but his words are ridiculous. JR doubtless pays her assistants well, but they are NOT paid THAT !! Vivien's salary bought homes and prestige.....the average house cost was about £700.....stars were not always paid the ridiculous sums that they are paid now.

I read few times she got $25 000. Hattie was getting paid $700 per week so how come Viv would only get paid $5000 as a whole sum. Rhett got $125 000 or $175 000. Don't remember.
For reference, 5000 GBP in 1939 is equivalent to about 410,000 GBP today. Perhaps not that much by today’s standards or even by the standards of the time (?) but it might have been helpful for the gentleman to clarify that point.
