    Re the 8700G, I suspect that the main driver for this is the non-US market. High electricity costs were mentioned here for some parts of the world, but also very high GPU prices in South America and Asia are (I have heard) a really big thing, so for casual gamers in those markets this would sell. Although the cost does seem very high!

      Also potentially for tech cafes... Low power, fewer components needed for each rig and smaller footprint. These could very interesting as like HP mini PCs and stuff. Every part doesn't need to made for enthusiasts

    • @peterwstacey
      @peterwstacey 6 месяцев назад +2

      Exactly - tech cafes, mini PCs and HTPCs would also be prime candidates, and it would be perfect for these. I do wonder if this it TOO powerful (and hence expensive) for these use-cases though, and a 5600G would suffice. Let's see what sells

    Regarding the new apus, it's important to remember the PCI lane limitations. Adding a GPU that needs Gen 4 for full performance, is going to leave a lot of performance on the table. I like the idea, but you can get a 5600x and an RX 6600 for about the price of an 8700g with a lot better performance. The upgrade path would be limited to AM4, but there's a lot of life still left in that platform.
    Cheers
    Rick

    I love Brad but nvidias margins on GeForce GPUs are 60+%. “Inflation” isn’t the reasons the 4080 costs nearly 200% the MSRP of the 3080.

      @CantankerousDave 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, price gouging is going on in lots of industries, and people who ought to know better wave it away as “inflation.”

    The 4080 Super is the GPU I wanted, at $800 USD.
    Sorry I can't touch an expensive AMD GPU when running a medium to heavy RT load means spending a LOT to get half decent 2K performance. I bought a 6950 XT for $600 USD and it has all the 2K raster performance I need.
    My next purchase is 4K HDR WITH RT gaming, at around $1000 USD, at about the performance of a 4090, so whenever that performance moves down the product stack and becomes a little more reasonable in price.

    Note for testing AMD 8000, whatever values are there for any testing that takes a bit of time or even testing one thing right after another, the clock frequency drops off which is laptop behavior that got imported to desktop, as GN pointed out. This will be fixed in an AGESA update as soon as AMD can get it out which means after the update the performance, which WILL include gaming will run better than it does now.
    So is it a really GOOD idea to get something out in the next week when you have missed day 1 of the launch with a review, when you already know the numbers won't be valid in a month or two, or wait for that AGESA update?
    Also, who would buy? OEMs for sure because of the NPU and Win11 has AI features that are better run on a dedicated NPU not the graphics card.
    Also, what happens when game logic incorporates AI and it affects the game, AND your graphics is busy running DLSS or XeSS? Now you really need an NPU in the CPU or an NPU on NVMe IF you have an available slot.
    Ignoring the purpose of the NPU is basically saying "The future doesn't exist". Except it does. So, these APUs have more value than JUST the graphics, and for OEMs, what happens when they sell PCs that don't have an NPU and AI work has to be pushed to the graphics? I think that's kind of why Microsoft said they want to start seeing NPUs in systems, and considering how many game companies they own maybe that means they need PCs to have NPUs.

      @@4m470 you should look into the program lossless scaling. It has a frame generation algorithm now. Run some tests if you still have your fury card.

    AMD GPU is way better. My 7900 XT is great and the frame gen works great in a lot of games. RSR upscaling works in every game. My computer went down, trying to fix it. So for now i'm on my laptop with a 4060 nvidia card. This thing is trash. Some games if DLSS is supported is great. Frame gen in flight simulator with DLSS runs fantastic. But not every game has DLSS. I play lots of games that has zero support. If this laptop had an AMD GPU, I could just turn on RSR or frame gen. Nvidia only wants you to play new games.

      @@thesupremeginge The graphical quality when using RSR compared to DLSS is horrible as well, it's got nothing to do with Nvidia wanting people to play new games, they simply provide better features regardless... You might be able to use RSR on every game but that doesn't mean that it's a good feature.. It is the same with FSR, just because it even works on Nvidia GPUs doesn't mean it's a better upscaler.. And for people that care how their game looks they are going to buy something that makes it play and look good

    how short your memories are. Remember there was a completly different 4080 made and shipped then pulled back and rebranded. This "SUPER" would have been miles over the intended 4080(pulled) card. Please try to not paint over Nvidia machinations and try, just try, to call it like it is.
