This video was so enjoyable! The arrangement is so beautiful, especially with the thrifted container. I stopped at a garden center today to pick up that same brand of reindeer moss, but mine was a chartreuse green. This garden center is a 53 minute drive, and as I was leaving, I learned that all fresh greenery was FREE! So, I grabbed a cart and picked up balsam fir, Korean fir, blue berried juniper, and spruce tips. I had made my front porch planters in late November and enjoy them so much. We had warm weather and rain yesterday, so the empty pots in another area had thawed. Late this afternoon, I had lots of fun making more fresh evergreen pots that I will enjoy until spring.
Fun fact: downward-facing blooms are very important for pollinators in wet winter weather - their nectar is protected by the umbrella effect of the petals, and so is not spoiled by rain and frost when bumblebees need food the most! Nature is truly amazing! 🐝💚
My favourite hellebore right now is Helleborus sternii ‘Silver Dollar’. It has the most beautiful combination of silver, blush, and sage green. The big pointed and serrated leaves look stunning all year round but especially shine in early spring surrounded by little nodding windflowers and green ferns. I recently divided an older hellebore clump, and I’m rather on edge hoping they all pull through 😅

So gorgeous! And you know what my favorite part of this video is Laura? The look of complete serenity on your face as you worked the plant roots and soil. It’s obvious that it is so grounding and centering for you. Totally understand that feeling. When I have tough days, out comes the potting soil and plants, it is medicine for the soul.

*I HAVE ADVICE FOR YOU* : as Arabian I saw my grandparents harvesting the wheat in the past before the machines and they used the same sharp too that you have used but bigger and it's like a knife edge not a saw edge, that will make the process faster and easier. They used a stone wheel with wood bar in the middle and it turns into a circular board and they put the 🌾 and that take out the wheat out of its shells . After that they used a circular sieve and the wheat falls down by gravity and the shells fly away by wind( you can use a fan if there's no wind)🎉 good luck and I like what are you doing ❤ merry Christmas 🎄 ❤

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to create these, and I hope that you never stop doing these. Also I completely understand about your pond area and keeping it natural. It does look like a woodland garden that I can imagine would grow naturally in the mountains of the U.S. I would love to visit the beautiful countryside and smaller towns in the USA, and it is on my bucket list. Is there any chance that you could take some videos of the country areas around where you live? I think that many people who live in other countries would find it so inspirational and helps us to have a better understanding of your amazing landscape, especially in and around your mountainous areas.🌲🌳🐿🦨🐻

I love that planter!! I am a fan of the Helebore!! Mine are getting buds and it’s such a fun thing to look forward to in winter. I also love to cut a few flowers for a vase. They look like little fairies with leaf wings💜🍃

Have you thought about mushrooms they are good in forest areas
@@user-yq8yv6ci1mthat is not a forest and they live in a high desert area, mushrooms happen in the forest naturally from all the organic matter constantly breaking down on the surface and deeply. Now on the coastal areas and forested mountains of Oregon yes.
I love the beautiful colors you put together there and agree the lemon cypress would have upstaged the subtlety. When you were digging your hands in the potting soil and having your "moment," I had a flash of you at Samantha's age... enjoying the dirt in your parents' garden. ;-) I have a feeling she's going to follow in your footsteps in how much she revels in the outdoors.

Beautiful! Great idea to keep the pond similar to the local landscapes, that will be stunning. Not sure why there are those who think the plants won’t make it in a densely planted container. You need to do a bit of pre-planning and select plants that will share space accordingly but maybe if you don’t have experience or knowledge of various plant habits, one would wonder if the plants would make it. I love full planters and containers, never had an issue so far.

It was because of you Laura that I could go into a garden center and correctly identify a hellebore. I was so proud of myself that this gave me the confidence to start a little balcony garden in my apartment. Now, it didn’t survive because my apartment balcony doesn’t get enough sun but that little memory stays with me and I thank you!

when drilling through something place a piece of scrap wood tightly underneath. the bit will move through your object and into the wood preventing the metal from protruding with those sharp bits and also keeps wood from splintering and ceramic from chipping.

I live in zone 8b near Portland, OR. I cut some hellebore leaves for an outside pot arrangement and discovered the undersides were covered in aphids!
